read and ratified . The ballot was taken for Comp . F . Smith as a joining member , and it proved nnanimous . The ballot was taken for Bro . J . Drinkwater , as candidate for exaltation . This also proved unanimous . The Second Principal gave the ancient lecture peculiar to his office , for the benefit of a young Companion , in a very able manner . We have been told that this Chapter works equal to any

in the Province , and if this is so , we shall be pleased at some fntnrr time to witness its efforts , as we consider it a pleasure to visit where talent is displayed . The business of the evening being ended , the Chapter was duly closed with ancient charge and solemn prayer at 7 . 30 , and the Companions adjourned to refreshment . The toast list on these occasions is short , but the importance of all is

felt and duly honoured . The M . E . Z . proposed the first toast . The Qneen , followed with that of His Royal Hishness the Prince of WaleB and the rest of the Royal Family , which wero heartily recoived . To Comp . Dr . Renshaw was entrusted the toast of the Prov . Grand Snpt . and tho rest of the Prov . Grand Officers ; with it he united the name of C mp . Siddeley , who replied : Ho felt prond

to respond for the Prov . Grand Chapter of Cheshire and his fellow Officers . He informed the Companions that he had been pleased to receive the distinction he had from their noble chief at last Provincial Grand Cbapfc r at Birkenhead . He expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing the Prov . Gmnd Snpt . Lord Do Tabley looking so bale and hearty on that important occasion . He hoped the day would be far

distant when His Lordship conld not be at tho head of the Craft in this Province . Comp . Simpson also returned thanks . Comp . Siddeley , by courtesy of the M . E . Z ., assumed the gavel . He had now the plenaine duty to propose tho health of the newly elected joim ' np Comp . Smith . He welcomed him warmly into the Chapter , and trusted tho work done in it would be to his satisfuch ' on and

edification . The toast was warmly received . Comp . Smith , in replv , thanked the Comps of No . 10 f 5 for their kindness in electing him . As he was Third Principal in another Chapter , ho hoped his services , which were at their disposal , mitjht bo brought , into requisition , as at all times he would do his best to promote the interests of the Chapter , Comp . Goodaere proposed the health of the Visiting Companions . He regretted that unforeseen ciroumstancps

had preventpd Comp . Davies , who had come a long way for the purpose , seeing the Chapter work that evening . He assured the Visitors that there was always a cordial welcome extended to all in tho Stamford Chapter . The toast was received very heartily . Comp . Davies , in renlyine , touched upon many topics interesting to all ; tho suhject of his remarks evoked a lively and pleasing chat , which ushered in the hour for separation .

Burgess J . W . The Lodge was raised , and tho ceremony of passing was worked by Bro . James Hargreaves W . M . in a very able manner ; the charge being given by Bro . Wm . Sturm S . W . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to a sumptuous respast provided by Bro . W . Y . Smith , of the Zetland Lodge , of the above address , at whioh Bro . James Hargreaves W . M . presided . After the

nsual Loyal toasts , Bro . S . P . Bidder P . M . proposed the health of Bro . George Mellor R . W . D . P . G . M . of Masoas iu East Lancashire , and the rest of the Provincial Officers . He said that every Lodge in the Province rejoiced when the R . W . P . G . M . selected Bro . Mellor for the high position of his Deputy ; and the great esteem in which Bro . Mellor was held , not only by the brethren of the Province , but by his

fellow-townsmen of Ashton-nnder-Lyne , who had several times elected him to the highest municipal honours they could bestow , was a sufficient guarantee that he was well worthy of holding the high position he did in the Craft . In response Bro . Mellor complimented the W . M . and his Officers upon the excellent and efficient manner of

working in their Lodge , and remarked that during his forty years ' experience in Freemasonry , he had seldom seen and heard the ceremony of passing so well done . Ho urged the brethren to copy the example of their W . M . and his Officers , in being prompt and regular in their attendance . Bro . Simpson , Provincial Lodge of Cheshire , proposed success and prosperity to the De Grey and Ripon Lodge ,

TJpton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1227 . —At Bro . Bolton ' s , King and Qneen , Norton Folgate , on Thursday , 21 st ult . Bros . Vbrahams W . M ., Hine S . W ., Pearcy J . W ., Fenner S . D ., Bolton J . D ., Townsend I . G ., and others . Bro . Townsend gave ample proof of his oroficiency , and was entrusted . Bro . Abrahams vacated the chair in favonr of Bro . Fenner . The Lodge WBB advanced to the third degree , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed in a very excellent manner . Bro . Townsend as candidate . Bro . Abrahams resumed the chair .

Bro . Fenner worked the first three sections of the first lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Hine was appointed to preside at the next meeting .

Burdett COUtts Lodge . —The regular meeting of the brethren of this prosperous Lodge was held on Thursday last , the 21 sfc instant , under the presidency of Bro . O . K . Crouch , the W . M ., who was sup . ported most ably by Bros . Sayers S . W ., Dr . Defriez J . W ., and the rest of his Officers . The mnsterof members and Visitors was large , numbering in all 84 , the majority of whom were in time for the open , ing ceremony . The business consisted of initiating two gentlemen ,

Messrs . Johnson and Harrison , and this over the brethren adjourned to banquet . Among the guests present were P . M . ' s Brayshaw , Brookes , Finch , Robertson , Hodges , Hughes , Auglis , Tandgrove , Hogarth , and Edwards . The Lodge unanimously agreed to a peti . tion for a Warrant for a new Ledge to bo located at tho Victoria Tavern , whioh will be its nearest neighbour . Tho bauquot to which the brethren adjourned was done ample justice to , and tho nsual toasts were given and heartily responded to .

Burdett Coutts Lodge of Instruction , No . 1278 . — The members met on Wednesday , at the Salmon and Ball , Bethnalgreen-road , where , iu spite of the depressing inflaence of tho woather , there was a fair attendance of m -mbers . Bro . Stnrtevant , an earnest worker of the mother Lodge , presided , and rehearsed the

ceremony of initiation . The Lodge was opened up to the third , and closed down . Several interesting matters were discussed , and Bro . Chitson was appointed to preside on Wednesday next . Wo can recommend brethren to pay this Lodge of Instrnction a visit ; they will find good workers , comfortable quarters , and a fraternal greeting awaiting them .

St . John Of Wapping , No . 1306 . —A regular meeting of this Lodge was held at Bro . T . Mortlock's , Gun Tavern , High-street , Wapping , on the 13 th ult . Lodge was opened at 6 . 30 p . m . by Bros . A . W . Coleman W . M ., W . H . Hayward S . W ., G . Hamilton J . W ., R . Hay . ward Trent * ., U . T . Hardy Sec , C . Veal S . D ., 0 . Wells I . G ., W . Beck P . M ., J . W . Dawson P . M ., T . Mortlock P . M . ; also Bros . J . Horseley ,

C . Bate , J . Carroceiro , H . Harbert , T . Howard , and J . Magrath . Visitors—G . H . Stephens and C . Kuraber . The minntes of previous meeting were read , and after discussion confirmed . The othor business comprised the balloting for a gentleman for initiation , and the discussion of several subjects of interests to the Lodgo . Lodgo was closed with prayer , and the brethren went from labour to

refreshment , and spent a very pleasant evening together . Tbo usual toasts wero enlivened with some capital songs . By permission of the W . M ., Bro . G . H . Stephens introduced the claims of the Masonic Charities upon the Craft . He explnined the immense good to be derived from the brethren forming Masonic Charity Funds , tho

proceeds of which would be devoted to the purchase of Life Governorships in the names of members . After an interesting discussion , eighteen names were given to start a fund , as explained by Bro . Stephens , and it was arranged that endeavours should bo made to enlist the support of brethren of the Lodge of Instruction .

I Clapton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1365 . —On Friday , 22 nd November . Present — Bros . L . Coubro W . M ., Bell S . W ., I Spurgeon J . W ., Yates S . D ., Birch J . D ., MacMillan I . G . ; also Bros . ' P . M . Cusworth , Goddard , and several other brethren . After preliminaries , the ceremony efinstallation was rehearsed , Bro . Goddard

candilate . The Lodge was then opened in tho second , aud Bro . Coghan was passed . The Lodge was closed down , and tbo thanks of the members unanimously voted to Bro , L . Coubro for the very ablo manner in which he had rendered the first and second ceremouies , for tho first time . The increasing attendance at thia Lodge shows that the brethren appreciate the comforts of tho new room .

Royal Hanover Lodge , No . 1777 . —An emergency meeting was held at the Town Hall , Hounslow , Middlesex , on Saturday last . The Lodge was opened in duo form by the W . M . Bro . H . A . Dubois P . P . S . G . D . P . M . P . Z ., supported by the following Officers : —Bros . H . Lovegrove S . W . ; George Clark jnn . J . W ., H . Clark S . D ., C . C . Cruikshanks J . D ., Dr . Whitmarsb I . Brown , and F . W . Gritten ; it having proved unanimous , the four first wero duly initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry . A letter from the Duke of Cumberland was read , thanking the brethren for naming the Lodgo after his illustrious father , King George V . of Hanover , and giving

permission for the Hanover Arms to be used by the Lodge . Bro . Marshall announced that he had much pleasure in presenting a copy of the "Sacred Law" for the use of the Lodge . Tho W . M . announced that had offered himself as Steward for the coming Festival of the Girls' School . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a slight repast , when the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured .

Bro . Stnrtevant , an earnest worker of the mother Lodge , presided , and rehearsed the

ceremony of initiation . The Lodge was opened up to the third , and closed down . Several interesting matters were discussed , and Bro . Chitson was appointed to preside on Wednesday next . Wo can recommend brethren to pay this Lodge of Instrnction a visit ; they will find good workers , comfortable quarters , and a fraternal greeting awaiting them .

St . John Of Wapping , No . 1306 . —A regular meeting of this Lodge was held at Bro . T . Mortlock's , Gun Tavern , High-street , Wapping , on the 13 th ult . Lodge was opened at 6 . 30 p . m . by Bros . A . W . Coleman W . M ., W . H . Hayward S . W ., G . Hamilton J . W ., R . Hay . ward Trent * ., U . T . Hardy Sec , C . Veal S . D ., 0 . Wells I . G ., W . Beck P . M ., J . W . Dawson P . M ., T . Mortlock P . M . ; also Bros . J . Horseley ,

C . Bate , J . Carroceiro , H . Harbert , T . Howard , and J . Magrath . Visitors—G . H . Stephens and C . Kuraber . The minntes of previous meeting were read , and after discussion confirmed . The othor business comprised the balloting for a gentleman for initiation , and the discussion of several subjects of interests to the Lodgo . Lodgo was closed with prayer , and the brethren went from labour to

refreshment , and spent a very pleasant evening together . Tbo usual toasts wero enlivened with some capital songs . By permission of the W . M ., Bro . G . H . Stephens introduced the claims of the Masonic Charities upon the Craft . He explnined the immense good to be derived from the brethren forming Masonic Charity Funds , tho

proceeds of which would be devoted to the purchase of Life Governorships in the names of members . After an interesting discussion , eighteen names were given to start a fund , as explained by Bro . Stephens , and it was arranged that endeavours should bo made to enlist the support of brethren of the Lodge of Instruction .

I Clapton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1365 . —On Friday , 22 nd November . Present — Bros . L . Coubro W . M ., Bell S . W ., I Spurgeon J . W ., Yates S . D ., Birch J . D ., MacMillan I . G . ; also Bros . ' P . M . Cusworth , Goddard , and several other brethren . After preliminaries , the ceremony efinstallation was rehearsed , Bro . Goddard

candilate . The Lodge was then opened in tho second , aud Bro . Coghan was passed . The Lodge was closed down , and tbo thanks of the members unanimously voted to Bro , L . Coubro for the very ablo manner in which he had rendered the first and second ceremouies , for tho first time . The increasing attendance at thia Lodge shows that the brethren appreciate the comforts of tho new room .

Royal Hanover Lodge , No . 1777 . —An emergency meeting was held at the Town Hall , Hounslow , Middlesex , on Saturday last . The Lodge was opened in duo form by the W . M . Bro . H . A . Dubois P . P . S . G . D . P . M . P . Z ., supported by the following Officers : —Bros . H . Lovegrove S . W . ; George Clark jnn . J . W ., H . Clark S . D ., C . C . Cruikshanks J . D ., Dr . Whitmarsb I . G . J . Dunkley Organist ; Visitors—Bros . C . P . McKay W . M . 720 , F . Perks 1507 . The ballot was taken for Messrs . Horace Marshall , C . C . W . Heelis , C . J . Axford , T . G . W . Brown , and F . W . Gritten ; it having proved unanimous , the four first wero duly initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry . A letter from the Duke of Cumberland was read , thanking the brethren for naming the Lodgo after his illustrious father , King George V . of Hanover , and giving

permission for the Hanover Arms to be used by the Lodge . Bro . Marshall announced that he had much pleasure in presenting a copy of the "Sacred Law" for the use of the Lodge . Tho W . M . announced that had offered himself as Steward for the coming Festival of the Girls' School . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a slight repast , when the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured .
