important office of G . Treasurer . The Lodge Burial Service having been performed , the funeral service was rendered in St . Paul ' s church , and the body then escorted to the cemetery at Mount Auburn , and there consigned to its last resting place with the customary Masonic rites , the family

and relatives of the deceased being present . At the regular Quarterly Communication on the 11 th September , Grand Master Welch presided , and Avas supported numerously by his Grand Officers and the representatives of subordinate Lodges , In the course of the proceedings the Grand

Master announced that anticipating his action would be confirmed by Grand Lodge , he had remitted to Memphis , New Orleans , Vicksburg , Jackson , and Port Gibson one hundred dollars each , or a total of five hundred dollars , towards the relief of the sufferers by the yellow fever . On the motion of Past Grand Master Nickerson , the action

of tho G . Master was confirmed , and a sum of five hundred dollars voted to replace the amounts so forwarded by him . Bro . Sutton in approving of the G . M . ' s action , was pleased to add that he woald increase the sum thus appropriated by another hundred dollars . With the exception of noting

that arrangements were made for Grand Lodge to attend the funeral of Bro . Welch , Past G . M . of Nebraska , as already described , we need add nothing as to the otherbusiness which took place , as the interest attached to it is of a purely local character .

A SPECIAL Meeting of the Supreme Council , 33 ° , of England , Wales , and tho Dependencies of the British Crown , was held at the Masonio Rooms , St . Peter ' s-street , Canterbury , on Monday , 18 th November , for tho purpose of perfecting candidates in the 18 th rlejrrpe , and to consecrate a Chapter Rose Croix , under the title of tho Efhelbert Chapter , to be held at Canterbury , whon the following members of the Supreme Council were present : —Capt . Tho brethren having ; assembled in the Hall , and

formed the Arch of Steel—the Supreme Council 33 ° entered in order . Tho Lieutenant Grand Commander ( Capt . N . G . Philips ) assumed his seat , and the Warrant of the Ethelbert Chanter having been read , be gave the Declaration of Constitution , and Consocration and Dndiration Address , and the Grand Marshal proclaimed that the Chapter had been consecrated .

The Ceremony of Installation then followed . Illustrious Bro . R . Joynes Emmerson 30 ° , Most Wise Sovereign Designate , was presented , and very ably and impressively installed by Lieut .-Col . Shadwell Clcrko 33 ° Grand Secretary General ; after which the Most Worshipfnl Sovereign appointod and invested the Officers of the Chapter : —Rev . T . Branfill Harrison High Prolate , Lieut . Alex .

H . Des Barres First General , Horatio Ward Second General , James D , Terson Grand Marshal , Arthur C . Plater Raphael , Charles Holttum Herald , Francis F . Giraml Captain of tho Guard , Richard Harrisson jan . Recorder , George Pago Director of Ceremonies , John Wilson Outer Guard . Bro . Herbert T . Sankey was unanimously elected Treasurer of the

Chapter . The Most Wise Sovereign then expressed the acknowledgements of the Chapter to the Illustrious Brethren present , members of Supreme Council , for the honour conferred in their attending to oonsecrate the Chapter , and a proposal that a voto of thanks be entered upon the minutes , and that for their excellent and valnable services they be

elected honorary members , was earned by acclamation . Also that the thanks of tho Chapter be given to Illustrious Bros . S . Rawson 33 ° , Lient .-Col . Somerville Burney 32 ° , Dr . W . Deamer 30 ° , and Professor E . M . Lott 30 ° , for their services in assisting in the ceremony of consecration , and that they bo elected honorary members of the Chapter .

A committee was next appointed to draw up the Bye Laws j and propositions were made for reception of candidates at the next meeting of the Chapter . The ceremony was then concluded . AH business being done , the Chapter was closed in due form . After which the brethren adjourned to the Fleur-de-lis Hotel , where the members of tho Supremo Council , the visitors and members of the Chapter ,

numbering thirty-three , were hospitably entertained at a handsome banquet by the Most Wise Sovereign Illustrious Bro . R . Joynes Emmerson 30 ° , and where tho usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were proposed . Tho Lieut . Grand Commander , in returning thanks for the health

of the Supreme Council , congratulated the Chapter on the very admirable way in which it had been fitted up , and in the excellency of all the arrangements ; results which were chiefly attributable to tho skill and energy of the Most Wise Sovereign , and of Bro . Horatio Ward 18 ? , one of its founders .
