English Masons In Dublin.

ENGLISH MASONS IN DUBLIN .

ON Monday morning about thirty Brethren , including Alderman E . H . Holmes , J . P ., Deputy Provincial Grand Master Northumberland , and other Members of the Lodges in Newcastle-on-Tyne , arrived in Dublin , aud were received as the guests of the VV . M . and members of Lodge of Israel , No . 126 .

They arrived by the mail boat at Kingstown , says the " Irish Times , " and when they reached Westland Eow Station they entered carriages in waiting , and were driven to that fine establishment in Dawson Street , the Hibernian Hotel .

A lavgu number of members of the Lodge of Israel attended at the station and received their friends with a hearty Irish welcome . A hospitable reception was accorded to them by Mr . Lurring , proprietor of the Hibernian , who placed them in comfortable rooms . The majority of the visitors , strangers to

Ireland , were impatient to see the capital , and they quickly sallied out and took au exterior view of the splendid Museum Buildings in Kildare Street , from which they proceeded to that fine metropolitan park , Stephen ' s Green , whose attractive

features they thoroughly appreciated . They returned to the Hotel , from which , after an excellent breakfast , they proceeded on pneumatic-tyred Irish jaunting cars , and drove through the city .

At the Eoyal Hospital they were received by Major Streatfield , Military Secretary to Lord Eoberts , and by Captain Fielding , the courteous Adjutant of the Hospital . While the visitors were engaged inspecting the armour and weapons of war with which the fine Hall of the Hospital is ornamented , Lord

Eoberts arrived , and bade them a hearty welcome . His lordship expressed the pleasure which it afforded him to receive so large and representative a body . Alderman Holmes and Lord Eoberts spoke of the occasion when his lordship was presented with the freedom of the city of Newcastle-on-Tyne , and of another on which the Field-Marshal was installed as Grand Junior Warden of

England . On both occasions Alderman Holmes acted in an official capacity . After some further conversation Lord Eoberts retired , amid applause . The visitors , after enjoying a splendid day , receiving , as they said , information and instruction of the highest interest in

connection with Irish history , returned to the Hibernian Hotel , where , with their hosts , they dined . A handsome little guidebook , containing a detailed programme of the visit , was presented

to the visitors . On one of its pages there is a life-like portrait of his Grace the Duke of Abercorn Grand Master of Ireland , and on another page there is an address of welcome , signed on behalf of the Brethren of the Lodge of Israel , No . 126 , by Bro . Thomas W . Donaldson W . M . The book also contains photographs of

the principal public buildings of Dublin , and brief historical sketches of them . It gives a history of the Lodge of Israel , No . 126 . The Warrant of the Lodge bears date 8 th December 1865 . It was signed by Augustus Frederick Duke of Leinster , who was Grand Master for Ireland from 1813 to 1874 . A facsimile of his

letter of the 24 th January to Brother Morris Harris , one of the founders of the Lodge , is presented on one of its pages , and is as follows : —

WORSHIPFUL SIR AND BROTHER , —I have received your letter of the 23 rd January , and am much gratified at the Lodge of Israel , No . 126 , wishing to elect me an honorary member , and will with pleasure join their Lodge .

I am , yours fraternally , LEINSTEB . Worshipful Brother Morris Harris , No . 126 . The festivities connected with the visit were brought to a close on Wednesday , the 20 th , by a reception and Cinderella

dance in the Bound Boom , Eotunda , which was beautifully decorated for the occasion , the entertainment being in every respect a brilliant success , and a fitting sequel to the grand banquet given in the Masonic Hall on the previous evening , in honour of the distinguished Brethren from across the water . The W . M . of the

Lodge ( Bro . Donaldson ) presided at the dinner , at which the company numbered nearly two hundred , including several Grand Officers , the Grand Treasurer Dr . Creed Meredith taking the place of the Deputy Grand Master Bro . E . W . Shekeleton , Q . C ., who , owing to illness , was unable to attend . Lord Justice

Fitzgibbon , Alderman Sir Eobert Sexton , D . L ., Sir Charles Cameron , M . D ., Dr . Chetewode Crawley , Eev . Benjamin Gibson Grand Chaplain , and other distinguished members of the Order occupied seats at the principal table , Alderman Holmes being to the immediate right of the Worshipful Master .

Eloquence of a high order characterised the speeches , says the " Dublin Evening Mail . " The Masonic Charities was one of the principal themes of the evening , when the visiting Brethren from England had been duly honoured .

It will be interesting to members of the local Lodges to know that Mr . E . H . Wilton , Clerk of the Seaton Local Board , has been appointed Eegistrar of Mark Masonry in Devonshire . lam

also delighted to know that the Masonic body has been enabled to assist some members of the family of the late Mr . S . G . Loveless , of Axminster . The troubles of the world have come quickly

to them , and all honour to such institutions which , like Freemasonry , exercise a tender care for the widow and fatherless . — " Devon and Exeter Gazette . "

Many Brethren of the district will have very pleasant recollections of the entertainments which have been provided from time to time by the members of local Lodges on behalf of the East Lancashire Masonic Charities ; and they will no doubt

be gratified to learn that efforts are being made for the holding of a similar entertainment this year . It is understood that tho Minnehaha Minstrels , a band of first-class musicians who are always to the front in supporting charitable objects , have

promised their services , and Mr . F . W . Purcell has placed his theatre at the disposal of the local Freemasons for the holding of the performance . It has been arranged that the entertainment shall be held on 17 th December , says the " Bury Guardian . "

PRESENTATION TO THE J . W . ASAPH LODGE .

THE Masonic friends of Bro . W . J . Holloway J . W . of the Lodge of Asaph entertained him on Tuesday , 19 th inst ., at a farewell dinner , prior to his departure for South Africa on a Shakespearian tour . Amongst those present , says the " Era , " were Bros . Harry NicholJs P . M . Drury Lane Lodge , Alfred Bishop P . M . Asaph , Oscar Barrett W . M . Drury Lane , S . Abell W . M . Richmond , J . D . Beveridge P . M . Asaph , F . R . Robinson W . M . Strawberry

Hill , H . G . Danby , John Crook , Edward Jones , John Woodyatt , and W . Lestocq P . M . of the Lodge of Asaph , who presided , and , on behalf of the Brethren , presented Bro . Holloway with a fine scarf-pin bearing the letter " G " in diamonds .

WALTON MARK LODGE , No . 161 , THE annual installation was held at the Sandon Hotel , Anfield , in the presence of a large gathering of members and visiting Brethren , on the 2 Gth inst . At the opening of the proceedings the chair was taken by Brother A . Ingleby W . M ., who afterwards gave place to tho senior P . M . of the Lodge , Bro J . Pilling , who , in a most impressive manner and in accordance with ancient custom , installed Bro . E . Pritchaid into tho chair for the ensuing twelve months .
