Bro . Colonel F . Plughes-Hallett P . G . D . Deputy Prov . G . Mark Master presided in the absence of the chief Viscount Dungarvan , who is on duty in South Africa . The usual business of the year was transacted , including the appointment of Officers , and a banquet was afterwards held at the King ' s Head Plotel . ¦

most impressively rendered and reflected credit upon himself and also on Bro . Robert Manuel P . M . the distinguished Preceptor of the Club . Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when Bro . Robert Manuel paid a well deserved compliment to the W . M . for the very able manner in which the ritual had been rendered .

Bro . W . H . George W . M . said he hardly knew how to thank Bro . Manuel for his compliments . He was greatly indebted to him for the attention he had shown him ; every part of the work he rehearsed he had learnt through Bro . Manuel their Preceptor , and he again thanked him and the Brethren for the encouragement given him .

Several communications were read , and some interesting propositions were made concerning the Club . To-morrow ( Sunday ) being Officers' day , Bro . M . Mirroy P . M . was appointed to officiate and Bro . Dr . Eyre was elected W . M . for the following Sunday . Bro . E . H . Auckland 2763 was elected a member .

TFIE Freemasons of Gloucestershire are intending to mark the attainment next year by the Right Hon . Sir Michael Plicks-Beach , Bart ., M . P ., of his " majority " as Grand Master

of the Province , by making him a presentation . When the desire of the Brethren to this effect was made known to Sir Michael , he expressed a wish that the presentation should take the form of a subscription to the Masonic Charities , but the feeling in favour of some personal gift has proved so

strong that the Provincial Grand Master has consented to accept a small gift for himself , and it is understood that a further gift will be made to his wife , Lady Lucy Hicks-Beach . According to present arrangements , the celebration will take place on Whit-Tuesday of next year , the date on which the

annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge of Gloucestershire has been fixed to take place at Cheltenham . It may be aaded that since his appointment as Provincial Grand Master , in 1881 , Sir Michael has only on one occasion , and that through illness , been absent from the annual meetings of the

Province , while during the same period three Lodges and two Royal Arch Chapters have been added to the Province , the roll of subscribing members of which has been increased from 600 to 850 , and the number of charity votes from 1 , 460 to 6 , 200 .

ON Friday of last weeK the Society of Old Scholars of the Royal Masonic Schools held a pleasant social gathering . On this occasion an inpromptu debate took place , under the chairmanship of Mr . R . S . Chandler Treasurer . Amongst the

subjects discussed were : " Ought a law to be passed to keep foreigners from landing and being domiciled in England indiscriminately ? " " Is free education beneficial to the country ?" "' In what way can the attempted invasion of English commercial prosperity oe prevented and turned against them ? " and

" Is the proposal to have an underground tunnel for all pipes and wires in London a good one ? " Among those prominent in debate were Messrs . J . Lee , H . Lewis , B . Green , H . Wilson , W . M . Andrews , S . J . Dowdell , J . E . Walters , and G .

Cross-Willett Hon . Secretary . The next event in connection with the Society will be a Bohemian concert , on Thursday , 5 th prox ., at the head-quarters of the Association , Anderton ' s Hotel .

WE regret to announce the death of Bro . Harry Nelson Price , which took place at his residence , Hythe , Kent , after an illness of three months , on the 12 th inst . The interment took place on the 15 th , and was attended by many personal Masonic friends . Bro . Price was initiated in the Carnarvon

Lodge , No . 804 , Havant , m 1871 , and continued a subscribing member until his death . A few years later he joined the Domatic Lodge , No . 177 , London , and was Master during its Centenary Anniversary in 1886 . He ' was exalted in the Chapter attached to the Domatic Lodge , and was First

Principal during the year of its Centenary commemoration . He was a Founder and first Master of the Viator Lodge , London ; a Founder of the Chiswick . Lodge , and a Founder

and first Master of the Amersham Lodge , Bucks . In 1895 he was W . M . of his Mother Lodge , No . 804 . Fie was a Life Governor of the R . M . B . I . and the R . M . I . B ., and a Life Subscriber to the R . M . I . G ., in all of which Institutions he

took a great interest ; at most of the elections he would canvass for some candidate . In 1897 he was rewarded with the Office of P . G . StdBr . in Grand Lodge and Assist . G . D . C . in Grand Chapter , and at the time of his death he was filling

the Office of Second Principal in the Carnarvon Chapter , No . 804 . As an enthusiastic worker in Lodge and Chapter he was often called upon amongst his wide circle of Masonic friends , and his welcome visits to various parts of the country will be sadly missed .

ON Friday afternoon , 15 th inst ., the funeral of the late Bro . Joseph Owen , Troedyrhiw , took place amidst every manifestation of respect . The route of the procession from the residence of the deceased to the Cefn Cemetery was dotted with groups of onlookers , and at most business places

and private houses blinds were drawn . The service at the house was conducted by the Rev . W . Jones , Treharris , and the Rev . J . R . Jones , Pontypridd . The members of the Loyal Cambrian Lodge fell in with the procession when it reached High Street , and the members of the Merthyr District Council

and other public bodies joined the cortege near the Town Hall . The Rev . Dr . Jones , Tabernacle , Troedyrhiw , and the Rev . W . A . Jones , Zion , Merthyr , officiated at the mortuary chapel , and addresses were given at the graveside by the Rev . E . Aubrey , Merthyr , and Mr . W . Pritchard Morgan , ex-M . P .

for Merthyr , and the proceedings were closed with a fervent prayer by the Rev . David Price , Tabernacle , Merthyr . Bro . Julius Prag , W . M . of the Loyal Cambrian Lodge , oi which deceased was a member , read the solemn prayers of the Freemasons . The wreaths were many , and included that sent by the Brethren of the Cambrian Lodge .

ON Saturday , 16 th , ths funeral of the late Bro . Joseph Cumbor , J . P ., of Darfield , took place at the Parish Church . The funeral procession was headed b y the members of the Urban District Council , Court Lord - Houghton Foresters

Druids , miners' officials , colliery deputies , and Friendly Lodge of Freemasons . At the church a large crowd assembled to pay their tribute of respect to the deceased , who was a keen politician , a social reformer , and a capable business man , There were upwards of forty wreaths .
