The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , Bro . H . French answered the questions leading to the higher degree in a perfect manner , and was entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and that Brother was passed as ' a Fellow Craft .

The Lodge was resumed to the first degree and the ballot was taken , for Mr . George Richard Schroder , and proved unanimous in his favour . In due course that gentleman had the pleasure of being initiated into the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry . The Lodge was resumed to . the second degreeand Bros . G .

, Bennett and J . Williams were examined and entrusted . Bro . A . Dogliani , who was also on the agenda for raising , was unavoidably prevented from being present , on account of important business . Lodge . was opened in the third degree , and the Brethren named were raised to the sublime rank of Master Mason .

In each degree , after the obligation , a hymn was sung , expressly composed for the purpose by Bro . R . H . Tickle Organist . Lodge being resumed to the first degree , a discussion concerning the annual ladies banquet and ball took place , and it was unanimously decided the same should take . place in January next ; and that the arrangements should rest between the Officers of the Lodge .

The W . M . was extremely sorry to inform the Brethren of the death of Bro . P . Judge ; unfortunately there was no time to write to every Brother but he himself , the Secretary , arid some of the Past Masters attended the funeral on behalf of the Lodge ; they had also sent a wreath in the name of the Lodge , and he proposed that a letter should be sent to the widow expressing that the Mastsr ,

Officers , and Brethren of the New Concord Lodge desired to record their deep sorrow at the loss the Lodge had sustained by the lamented death of Bro . P . Judge , who had obtained the sincere resjject and marked esteem of all the members of the Lodge , and expressing their sincere and heartfelt sympathy with his widow and family in their heavy bereavement . The proposition of the W . M . was accepted .

Potter , with his usual kind hearted feeling , proposed that two Brethren should -receive five pounds each , another Brother two guineas , and the widow oi a late Brother also two guineas , and these grants were unanimously carried , a fact on which we heartily congratulate the members of the New Concord Lodge . Such charitable regard for those in distress is indeed worthy . , -of commendation ..

Bro . J . Keizer S . W . proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be passed and recorded on the minutes for the pieces of music Bro . the W . M . said he had a very important toast to submit . It was a revived toast , the health of the Prince and Princess of Wales . They all hoped the noble Prince , the new holder of the title , would follow in the footsteps of his father the present King . Bro . C . Weeden P . M . ( in the absence of the I . P . M . ) in complimentary terms gave the tqast of the W . M . It was a pleasure to see

how he conducted the affairs of the Lodge ; he was equal if not better to those who had gone before him ; he had again worked the three degrees that night to his own credit and to the credit of the Lodge . He wished the W . M . continued prosperity , and called upon the Brethren to drink his health .

The W . M ., in reply , said that Bro . Weeden had a very nice way in proposing his health . He was afraid they had given him more praise than he deserved . He always did his very best , and was pleased if his working had given satisfaction ; he also thanked the Brethren for their attendance , and the attention that had been paid during the working . He could not let the opportunity pass without thanking Bro . Feneiey , on behalf of the Lodge , for his kindness in

putting new pedestals in the Lodge ; he also sincerely thanked Bro . Mascheroni for the most excellent entertainment he had given on the piano and Bro . Amidie for having introduced such an accomplished visitor . The W . M . said he had an unexpected pleasure in view for the Brethren . A young lady , Miss Adelene Bond , a friend of Brother Past Master Weeden would oblige with a song , which announcement was most cordially received , as was the response of the W . M . to the toast .

The next toast , said the W . M . was the most interesting of the evening namely , that of the initiate . Bro . Schroder ' s name would be well remembered , as his Brother was initiated and raised only a couple of months ago before leaving England to return to South Africa ( they all wished that Brother every prosperity ) . The initiate was proposed and seconded by two worthy members of the Lodge , and by the great attention he had shown during his initiation he was sure their new Brother would make an additional ornament to

the Lodge . In reply , Bro . Schroder said he had been very much impressed with the ceremony , and sincerely thanked the W . M . for the kind manner in which he had spoken of him . He was pleased to say that

two of his brothers were members of the Lodge , and he intended to follow not alone the footsteps of his own brothers , but hoped in time to come to occupy the honourable position the W . M . filled at the present . He thanked all the members for having received him into the New Concord Lodge in such a cordial manner .

The W . M . had now much pleasure in proposing the toast of the visitors . It was , and always would be the desire of the New Con-. cord Lodge to give their guests a most hearty welcome . The manner in which Bro . Mascheroni and other visitors had entertained them that evening showed they had appreciated the cordial reception they'had received . He sincerely hoped to see the visitors again on a future occasion .

Bro . W . B . Trick P . M . 13 66 said if anyone had . told him he would have been there that night he should have said something , because until 5 o ' clock he was out shooting ; at 6 o ' clock his friend had told him he was going to the New Concord Lodee , and had most cordially ' - 'invited him . Looking around he was delighted to see an old friend Bro . Howard W . M . whom he remembered well ;

then there was Bro . Past Master Weeden , whom he had known over twenty years ; and dear Bro . Potter the Secretary , who also reminded him of old times . He was exceedingly sorry he was not in time to witness the working , but hoped to do so on a future occasion ! He sincerely thanked the W . M . for his most cordial reception .

The toast of the Past Masters and Officers was given and responded to . The irvusical arrangements were of great excellence . Bro . Angelo Mascheroni gave some excellent selections on the piano , for which he was deservedly encored . Bro . R . Joyner , who is well

known amongst the protession . gave a whistling song , which was highly appreciated . Miss Adelene Bond in a sweet voice entertained the ' company with a most excellent song , for which she was highly complimented b- " - the Worshipful Master . Bros . Ho had a most pleasing duty to perform , viz . : that of presenting to Bro . Goddard a Past Master ' s jewel as a mark of their personal esteem and he earnestly hoped he would long be spared to wear it . The W . M . then pinned the jewel on his coat amidst great applause .

Bro . Goddard , m responding to the toast , said his heart was too full of gratitude for him to do full justice in responding .
