SUFFOLK .

WE briefly recorded the fact in our last issue that special meetings were held in Suffolk for the purpose of passing votes of sympathy with the Provincial Grand Maater on the death of his wife , and now append further particulars .

The special meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodgo of Suffolk was held at the Masonic Hall , Ipswich , on Wednesday , 20 th inst . There were present Eev . 0 . J . Martyn D . P . G . M . and a large number of others .

Tbe Provincial Grand Secretary announced thafc he had received letters of apology from several brethren , all of whom expressed , in a very earnest manner , the concurrence with the object of the meeting .

The Depnty Provincial Grand Master , in explaining the object of the meeting , said to him personally it was a matter of very deep regret and sorrow thafc it had pleased theG . A . O . T . tT . to remove Lady Henniker from this world . He bad known her ever since she first came into the

Province of Suffolk as the bride of the Provincial Grand Master , and during the whole of that time he had had the pleasure of enjoying the friendship of both of them , lie need not say many words in order to enlist their sympathies in the vote they proposed to send from the Province

Suffolk.

of Suffolk to tho Provincial Grand Master . The bereavmont Lord Henniker had sustained was one never to be forgotten—he had lost a beloved , excellent , aud loving wife , one who for many years had been tho partner of his joys and sorrows , and he was sare they wonld all wish to

unite in an expression of deep and sincere sympathy , and earnest hope that it might please the Almighty in His goodness to comfort him and those who were near and dear to him in this their sorrow . Ho was sure the Provincial Grand Maater would receive their vote as it was

meant , as coming from the hearts of tho e who , while they would joy with him in his joy , would sorrow with him in his sorrow . That was ono of the tenets of Masonry—it taught them to " drop tho tear of sympathy over the failings of a brother , and pour the healing balm of

consolation in tho bosom of the afflicted . He thanked God they had no occasion to do tho one in regard to Lord Henniker , but they would strive as far as they could to pour into his afflicted bosom the healing balm of consolation . He

then formally proposed that a vote of condolence from the Provincial Grand Lodge bo forwarded to Lord Henniker . Bro . Townsend acting D . P . G . M . seconded the resolution , which was crrriod unanimously .

Tbo Provincial Grand Secretary reatl the draft of the letter , as follows : —

"To the "Right Hon . LORD HENNIKER R . W . Prov . Grand Master . Right Worshipful and Dear Sir and Brothor , —We , the Dopnty Grand Master , Officers and Brethren of the Province of Suffolk , being assembled in Provincial Grand Lodgo , desire to 1 xpreaa to yoa and all tho members of your family our sinsere and ht-artfolt sympathy

in tho sid bereavement with which it has pleased the G . A . O . T . U . t > visit you in the removal of her who had baen for so many years your loving wife , and the partner of your joys and sorrows . We fervently

prny that the Most High may comfort and support you in this dark hour of affliction . —Signed on behalf of the Pro * incial Grand Lodge this 20 ch day of December 1893 . " N . TRACY P . G . S . "

Provincial Grand Lodge was then closed . At the special meeting of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of the Province to pass a voto of condolence

with the Provincial Grand Master , the Right Hon . Lord Henniker , in the bereavement he has recently sustained by tho death of Lady Henniker , the Rev . C . J . Martyn D . P . G . M . M . M . presided .

The Provincial Grand Secretary announced that he had received letters of apology from several brethren who were unable to bo present . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master , in explaining the object of the meeting , spoke of the sad bereavement which

had befallen Lord Henniker and his family as the greatest loss a man could possibly sustain—the death of a loving , beloved , affectionate , and devoted wife . In n-skiag them to pass a vote of condolence with tho Provincial Grand Master , he was suro ho was only doing that which was in

accordance with the feelings of every member of the Provincial Grand Lodge . The services which the Provincial Grand Master of East Anglia had rendered to Mark Masonry were too well known to need comment . For a long time he had presided over the Province , and for three years he filled

the office of Grand Master of the Mark Master Masons of England . It was mainly through his instrumentality that His Royal Highness fche Prince of Wales became their Grand Master , and therefore to Lord Henniker they owed a great debt ' of gratitude . The U . P . G . M . M . concluded by

formally proposing that a vote of condolence and sympathy with the Provincial Grand Master be drawn up and forwarded to him , signed on behalf of the Provincial Grand

Lodge of Mark Master Masons of East Anglia . Bro . Tracy , acting as D . P . G . M . seconded the motion , which v . as carried unanimously . The Provincial Grand Lodge was then closed .
