Gomm had put an end to their companionship . The loss of so dear a friend was a severe one to him , and one which he conld but feel acutely . He hoped he might be able to work with Bro . Blasby in the same friendly spirit as he had worked with their past Treasurer . He had little doubt bat that he should do so , and trusted their united efforts might prove beneficial to the Lodge . The toast

of the Officers was next given ; this having been acknowledged , the W . M . proposed a special one in favour of Bro . Tarling , whose long and faithful discharge of the dutiea of Steward called for some special recognition . The W . M . spoke in the kindest terms of Bro . Tarling , and his sentiments met with a hearty response from the brethren ,

one and all of whom appeared to fully appreciate the way in which the D . of O , attended to their comforts . A reply from Bro . M ., performed the ceremony of raising Bro . Small to the third degree , in bis usual well-known impressive manner , The ceremony of installation was then proceeded with , Bro . Weston P . M . acting as the Installing Master , with the assistance of Bro .

Osborn P . M ., who delivered one of the charges . The work was absolutely faultless , and so well rendered aa to call forth universal praise from the Visitors . The W . M . appointed Bros . Allison S . W ., Payne J . W ., Larter S . D . Bro . Hollidge having resigned the office of Treasurer , held by him for three years , to whioh P . M . Weston had been elected , was appointed Junior Deacon , he being desirous to have a

working collar . The rest of the Officers consequently remain as before . Lodge being closed in ancient form , the brethren partook of a sumptuous banquet provided by Bro . Baker . The usual toasts wore given by the W . M ., who , in returning thanks for his health , whioh was proposed in flattering terms by Bro . Poulton I . P . M ., alluded to the fact that he was the first initiate of the Lodge who had attained the

proud position of its W . M ., and to the good feeling that had existed from the firsfc between the brethren of the Lodge and himself . He also told the brethren thafc as bo was , so to speak , the new bridge , they must not forget the eminent services rendered by the Past Masters as the old bridges to Freemasonry . The W . M . presented I . P . M . Poulton with a valuable jewel , voted by the members , and in

so doing expressed a sincere wish that he would long be spared to the Lodge . Bro . Terry having made a stirring speech in favour of the Old People , and interesting addresses having been given by the Visitors , some of whom spoke of the W . M . as an old and respected friend of many years' standing , the brethren separated , one and all

expressing great satisfaction wifch the whole of the proceedings . Before leaving the table the W . M . was presented with an exquisite and costly bouquet for his lady . The musical arrangements wore nnder the direction of our excellent Bro . Wright . Vocalists—Miss Coyte Turner and Misa Amelia Wright ; Bros . Probert and Payne .

EWELL LODGE , No . 1851 . THE brethren of this Lodge assembled on Satnrday last , at the Snn Hotel , Kingston-on-Thames , at 3 . 30 o ' clock precisely , when the W . Organist Middlesex was then presented , and regularly installed by the retiring Master , who rendered the ceremony most

efficiently . The following brethren were appointed Officers : — Bros . Parker S . W ., Davies J . W ., Baber Treasnrer , Saul Secretary , Sibley S . D ., Rush J . D ., Room D . C , Yonens I . G ., O'Connell Organist , Dupree W . S ., Wedgwood Assistant W . S ., Walkeley Tyler . After the usual addresses and routine work , Lodge was closed , and the brethren repaired to the banquet room , where a capital repast was provided by host Bond . The after-dinner speeches were brief but to

tho purpose , the W . M . displaying those genial qualities that are so characteristic with him , and expressing the intense gratification it afforded him at reaching his present elevated position in the Craffc . The services of the retiring Master received full recognition , and the evening was enlivened by some excellent singing , the W . M .. , by revest , favouring tho meeting with his popular organeophonic selection .

Hurley , offering to the Lodge of Union an increased rent for the hall , on condition that an extended lease be granted . A notice of motion was given , by Bro . Richard Dowsett I . P . M ., " that the sum of ten guineas from the funds of the Lodge be voted to the R . M . I . B ., and that tbe same be added to the list of the W . M . who will represent the Lodge at the forthcoming Festival of the Institution . " After tbe usnal ceremonies the Lodge was closed according to antient form and adjourned .

Justice Lodge of Instruction , No . 147 . —On Thursday , 29 th inst ., at the Brown Bear , High-street , Deptford , Bros . Smith W . M ., Thomas S . W ., Catt J . W ., Speight P . M . Secretary , Penrose S . D ., Banks J . D ., Ingram I . G . ; also Bros . Good P . M ., Greener , & e After preliminaries , the ceremony of initiation waa rehearsed , Brother

Penrose candidate . Lodge waa then called off ; on resuming the chair was taken by Bro . Speight P . M ., who rehearsed the ceremony of raising . Lodgo waa resumed , and a hearty vote of thanks waa accorded to Brother Smith for the able manner in whioh he rehearsed the ceremony of initiation .

Lodge opened in second degree , aud
