MHHE annual gathering of Mark Masons of the Province ¦ *• of North and East Yorkshire was held on "Wednesday afternoon , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Dancombe Place , York , on tho invitation of the York Lodge , T . I . There was a good meeting , the chief towns

in the Province being well represented . In the absence , through illness , of the Provincial Grand Master Bro . tho Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett , the chair wa 3 taken by Brother Col . R . G . Smith P . G . D . England , and Bro . T . B .

Whytehead acted as Deputy Grand Master . The nsual business of the Province was transacted in due order , and it was decided to give £ 5 5 s from tho fund 3 of the Province to

the Educational Fund of North and East Yorkshire , the Second Annual Festival of which was to be held at Hall , on the 28 th inst . The Provincial Grand Officers for the year were appointed and invested , as follows : —

addresses to the W . M ., Officers and Brethren . The W . M ., in presenta Past Master ' s jewel to Bro . Tipper I . P . M ., referred to tho excellent services rendered by that brother to the Lodge , and to the ability he had displayed in the working of tho ceremonies , and said the jewel was a mark of esteem from the members . The gift was appropriately acknowledged by Bro . Tipper . Letters expressing regret for

nonattendance having been read , the Lodge waB formally closed . The brethren subsequently enjoyed a banqnet at Freemasons' Tavern , which was followed by the customary toasts . Bro . John L . Mather responding for the Grand Officers , returned sincere thanks for the hearty reception accorded the toast . Ho said it was a great pleasure and privilege to be a Grand Officer , more especially , to be coupled

with the names of tbe two eminent noblemen mentioned in the toast . He wonld only say the Grand Officers endeavoured to disoharge their duties in a mo 3 t satisfactory manner , and he was only sorry more work did not fall upon them , for every member would be ready and willing to perform it , in an able and efficient manner . He congratulated the W . M . on being installed into the chair , and hoped he

would have a pleasing year of office , and that all the officers would support him to the best of their ability . The Installing Master had performed the ceremony in a highly creditable manner , and he hoped the Lodgo would continue to prosper for many years to come . Bro . EL H . Shirley replied for the Provincial Grand Officers , and said the [ lemiiker Lodge -was to be congratulated upon having so many Grand

Officers , and Provincial Grand Officers attached to it . He held a very low position in the Provincial Grand Lodgo , but he was glad to have attained tho office , and hoped to arrive at a higher post . Bro . H . Tipprr'then said he rose to propose the roost important toast thajt could be brought beforo them—the health of their W . M . He felt sure they had done tbe right thing that evening in installing Bro . fl ,
