The father of Florantbe had consented to her receiving the addresses of Octavian , but a more advantageous match being proposed , he withdraws that c 6 nsent , and forbids the lovers meeting again ; Octavian challenges his rival , they fight , and he leaves him for dead , on which he retires to the mountains , taking up his residence in a where he has remained almost frantic for twelve months .
