" Though this commission was literally confined to New-England ,
yet the Grand Master thought himself warranted by his instructions , and by common custom , to erect Lodges , on proper application , in any of the colonies where no Grand Lodge was established ; and these sentiments being embraced by his successors in office , the jurisdiction was extended to various parts of the continent , and to the West Indies .
