At her house in Grosvenor-square , full of years and honour , Dame Elizabeth Dashwood , widow of Sir James IX Bart , of Kirtlington-park , coun y of Oxford ; who , during ihe long period of 8 4 years , fulfilled , uniformly and

unaffectedly , every relative duty of life . At his seat at Haldon-house , Devon , in his 81 st vear , Sir Hobert l-alk , Bart , many years M . P . for Ashburton , in that county , and created a Baronet March 25 , 17 S 2 . lie was appointed Governor of Madras 1761 . He married Anne daughter of Mr . Vansiltarl , of

Shottishbrook , Berks , by whom he had Anne , married , 17 S 6 , to Sir B . Wray , Bart . ; Lawrence , so called after the General of thai name , who left him his fortune ; Catharine and Emelia , who both died young , the latter 17 S 6 . He is succeeded by his only son , Lawrence P . Esq . who was chosen , at the last general election , one ofthe members for Devonshire , as he had before represented Ashburton .

In his public character Sir Robert was invariably attached and devoted to the interests of his country , and to that constitution to which , under God , we are indebted for the happiness and prosperity we have hitherto enjoyed ; in his private capacity he was a sincere and active friend , a liberal and unwearied

benefactor . He purchased the mansionhouse of the Chudleighs at Haldon , built about 30 years ago . one of the best modern houses in Ihe county of Devon , on . he model of the Oucen ' s house in St . James's Park , and much improved by Sir l-l . P . whose plantations have greatly succeeded , and were lately

enlarged by new inclosures . On Penliill , one of the loftiest eminences in the county , he erected a triangular building , with round towers at the corners , called Lawrence Castle , in honour uf Gen . L . whose statue , on a round black marble pedestal , with a Persian inscription , sent by the Nabob

Wallajah , stands on the ground-floor . Sir Hobert , early in life , took deacons ' orders , which did not , however , disqualify him for a sea . in parliament .
