On his accession to the throne , King William requested the present Most Worship ful Grand Master , his illustrious Brother , to take the Royal Lodge under his protection ; a request to which the Duke of Sussex readily acceded , and still continues to perform to the hig h gratification of the
Lodge . At the time when this change took place in the person of their chief , the members of the Prince of Wales ' s Lodge solicited some mark of the Royal favour on the retirement of their Sovereign Master ; and , in consequence , their badge , or apron , was permitted to be decorated by an edge
of purple . During the time that His Royal Highness presided over the Prince of Wales ' s Lodge , he promoted its interest most extensively , by his great zeal and perseverance ; always taking an active part in whatever concerned that body . At
another opportunity we shall probably lay before our readers some anecdotes which will mark the sentiments of His Royal Hig hness with respect to Freemasonry , and the duties it inculcates .

The Duke of Clarence attended the celebration of tne Moira Festival , in 1813 , in compliment to that distinguished man and zealous Mason , the Earl of Moira ; as did the other Dukes of the Royal Family then living , their Royal Highnesses the Dukes of York , Kent , Sussex , Cumberland , and Gloucester .
