The newly-installed W . M . initiated Messrs . James Shrubb and If . T . May , and his excellent working of- the ritual was much appreciated by the large gathering . Bro . J . C . Conway , P . M ., report ' d the death cf Bro . Albert Licht * itz , which sad event took place that mornirg .

He underwent an rperation the day previous , bu ; the Great Architect had been pleisel to take him away . He was deputed by his father , Bro . Ludwig Lichtwi'z , P . VI ., to impait the very sad news to the brethren . I he members had looked forward to him as oneof the shining lights , and when he was initiated in the lodge it was to the great delight ol his fatler . It was his ( Pro . Cennay's ) painful duty to move that a letter be sent to Bro . Ludwig Lichtwi'z , P . M ., expressing to him their deepest and most earnest

syrrpUhy in Ihc great trouble which had befallen him , and lhat a wreath be sent from lhe ledge . Ihe proposition was seconded by Bro . R . VV , Jones , P . M ., who spoke in fcelirg teims of Ihe great lo : s the lodge had sustained , and on being put to the vote , was carried unanimously . The W . M . having stated his intention of going up as Steward at lhe foithcoming Ccntrniry Festival of the B > ys * Institution , the sum of 20 guineas was vited frem the lodge Funds to be pliced on his list .

A gentleman was proposed for initiation at the next meeting , and , after other business , thc lodge was closed . A in hen he barquet followed , fir which Bro . Scott Roberts was responsible . At the corelusion of the re-pas ' , the W . M . gave in brief , but happy , terms the usual leyal and Mascnic toasts , which were cordially received . Bro . George Read , P . G . S . B ., in replying to the toast of "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " stated that he was honoured to hive the pleasure and privilege to ackncwledgethe toast , whicli was always kindly given and received in every lodge . The

reason that the W . M . had been good enough to associate his name with the toast , was perhaps because he ( Bro . Read ) initiated him seven years ago in the Londesborough Lodge , and , in conclusion , he congratulated the members on having such a good Master and so earnest a worker in the Craft . , Bro . VV . Ham , I . P . M ., taking the gave ] , proposed "The Health ef Bro . G . B . Spicer , VV . M . " He said he had the honour and pleasure of submitting the toast , but , if it was ncc-srary , it would take him a long time to expatiate on the many virlues of tie W . M . He was well known as an ardent Mason and a good worker , and he thought he would be a great success as ruler in their lod je .

., lhe teast was received with much enthusiasm , as was the VV . M ., Bio . Spicer , en using to respond . Bro . Spicer slated that he need hardly express how highly he appreciated the great honour of having been elected Master of that important lodge , and he earnestly hoped that the Great Architect would give him health and strength to enable him to carry out lhe duties of his office . Words failed him to express what he then felt , but he thanked Bro . Ham for Lis kind remarks in proposing the toast and the members for their great reception . 1 v 1 ,

'n giving " The Initiates , " the VV . M . said it was a toast that wauld commend itself J l "" *^ was P ' ' ' ° *' had the honour that evening of having two initiates and that they might become good and efficient Masons was his earnest wish .

The initiates on rising to respond had quite an ovation . Bro . H . T . May thanked them for the hearty way they had received the initiates , and said that he was honoured to be a Mason , and he would do his utmost to prove himself an honourable member of their grand Order . Bro . James Shrubb also responded , remarking that he would do his very best to be a good Mason , and—might he arid—an honour to the Craft .

The next toast was "The Installing * Master , Bro . W . Ham , I . P . M ., " theW . M stating that c-uring the past year Bro . Ham had performed his duties with every satisfaction to them all , and in presenting him with a Past Master's jewel , he remarked that his great services to the lodge would never be forgotten . The remarks of the W . M . were received with grot applause . Bro . VV . Ham . I . P . M ., responded . He stated that he was deeply grateful for the

very kind words ef the W . M ., and for the prolonged applause of thebrethren . He felt somewhat embarrassed and not able to adequately express in words his feelings , but he would endeavour to assist the W . M . in every way in his power , and that was a ' s a the wish of all the Past Misters . He thanked them from the bottom of his heart for the way they had received him , and for the great kindness he had always had at their hands .

The W . M . gave " The Visitors , " observing that they were all most welcome , and , on behalf of the members , he gave them all a hearty greeting , with a wish that they would come again , and he joined with the toast the names of Bros . Dr . R . Bowdler Sharoe , P . P . G . D . C . Bucks , and G . Holland , P . M . 1604 . Bro . Dr . R . Bowdler Sharpe responded . He said that was the first time for two years _ that he had visited a Iodge , as his health had not permitted him . The W . M . 's working was exceedingly good , and the visitors were much pleased with the way they had been received and entertained .

Bro . G . Holland , P . M ., also acknowledged the toast , remarking that that was not his first visit bv many times , and it was his privilege to be well known to the members , as he was the Preceptor of three lodges of instruction , and he was ever willing to do his best to give instruction in the beautiful ritual . It augured well for the lodge to have a Master who , the moment the gavel wis put into his hand , was able to use it as he had done , by initiating two members that evening , and the excellent working of the I . P . M ., Bro . Ham , was deserving of great praise .

Bro . G . White , W . M . 2030 , who was also called upon , slid that he was very pleased to be present , and hoped for many years to have the honour of meeting the members in that and his lodge and also in other lodges . He felt that they were all deeply impressed with the good working of the W . M . and the I . P . M . After repeated calls , Bro . E . L . Berry , P . M ., also responded . He said thit it wis a great pleasure to him to again attend the lodge where he met so many old friends . The St . Ambrose was a most genial and happy lodge , and he hoped it might long continue lo be so .

The hour being late , the W . M . gave as one toast that of "The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary . " He said the Past Misters were an important body , and they were all good , and their services were appreciated . The Treasurer , Bro . Perry , P . M ., was one of the best , and their thanks were due to him for his efforts , and they regretted that illness was the cause of his absence . Then , as to the Secretary , Bro . Bates , P . M ., it would be impossible to find a better one , and the success of the lodge was due mainly to him .

In response , Bro . F . H . Buxton , P . M ., stated thit all the Fast Masters would have great pleasure in doing everything they could to mike the W . M . ' s year of office a big

success . Bro . J . C Conway , P . M ., also responded in eloquent terms . Bro . W . F . Bites , P . M ., Sec , said h » was certain they all regretted the enforced absence of the Treasurer , and no one regretted it more than Bro . Perry . As Secretary , if they gave him more work the bett-r would he be pleased , as h *! was not afraid of hard work after 20 vears' experience in Masonry . He wis hippy they hid voted 20 guineas for the Bovs' Institution , because it was the largest amou-t ever given by the lodge . „ The W . M . orrposed "The Officers , " and he associated with the toast the names of Bros . Dr . Ivor Davis , S . VV . ; Geo . Miy , J . W . ; and the Rev . T . J . Filmer Bennett , Chap . Bro . Dr . Ivor Davis responded in a neat , but brief speech , and to the point .

Bros . May , J . W ., and the Rev . J . Filmer Bennett , Chap ., also acknowledged the toast , the latter stating that he had known the W . M . for many years , and was glad see him installed , as no one ' s heart was more in Misonry than that of the W . M . ' s . The Tyler ' s toast brought to an end one of the many happy meetings of the St . Ambrose Lodge it has been our privilege and pleasure to attend . An excellent musical programme was contributed to by Bros . Marriott , Harry Stubbs , Wm . Davies , Tho-. Keoip ' on , and Geo , Thatcher .

M . „ The W .
