Bro . G . Ridout , I . P . M ., in giving "The Health of the VV . M ., " said it was the privilege of the brother leaving the chair to propose the health of his successor . The task on the present occasion was a very agreeable one , having had the pleasure of knowing Bro . Davis for nearly 20 years , and were he asked to sum ti iris : tint brother ' s history during that time , he should sum it up in the one word —thoroughness . The VV . M . was a thorough man of business , a thorough man of the wirld , an *! last , bu ; not

least , a thorough Mason . Those qualifications could not fail to assist Bro . Davis and benefit the brethren in the bdge and at th ** festive board . Their W . M . had ably filled every oflice in the lodge , from Steward to S . W ., and had not only filled those office ? , b it adorned them . He ( the I . P . M . ) ventured to predict that undar the distinguished presence and genial smile of the present Worshipful Mister tha future of th ** Great Northern Lodge could not fail to ba one of success . He , therefore , asked the brethren to join with him in drinking the W . M ' s . good health .

Bro . Chas . Davis , W . M ., said that if he could reply in an equally eloquent minner to the remarks of the I . P . M . he should be proud indeed , but if ha ware to attempt to do so in the presence of such an enlighten ad body of brethren he might get a little out of his depth . As their W . M . he should endeavour to do the bast he could during his year , and hoped the lodge would increase in numbers and continue to enjoy its present reputation .

The Worshipful Master then proposed "The I . P . M ., " and slid h ; rejirded it as the toast of the evening as it was the redaction of the last two years in tha lodge as represented by the I . P . M . He could not help thinking tha toast was mingled with a little feeling of regret , remembering what happened during the pist year when they lost one-they so much respected . However , Providence had ordered the course of event * :, and the I . P . M . came in to fill the breach and hid done credit to the lodge and to himself . They all appreciated Bro . Ridout ' s services , and to accentuate that appreciation

they had thought it right to add a bar containing a diamond to his Past Master s jewel , in recognition of the conscientious and able manner in which he had performed his work . Bro . G . Ridout , I . P . M ., in response , said it was dillicult for him to lind words adequately to express his thanks for the cordial manner in which the toast had been pioposed and received . He felt he had only done what any min placed in his position would have done . The cause that led to his occupying the chair for the second time

was indeed a sad one for all . He had performed the duties to the best of his ability , and to have merited their appreciation would have been ample reward . As their appreciation had taken the form it had , he felt he was unworthy of their gratituda . He could only say that if at any time he could help them his services were at their disposal . He again thanked them for the cordial reception of the toast , and for the support always accorded him in anything he had undertaken on bahalf of tha lodge .

Bro . G . Hubbard replied for " The Initiates , " and said it was with extrema pleasure he found himself on thc threshold of a new world . He came there not in the least

knowing what to expect , and certainly not expecting to mike a spaach . I' reem isonry had been for a long time a subject he had studied from an outside point of view . It had been his lot to study ancient buildings in every country in Europe , and ha wa ? struck in the work of England by certain mysterious marks on early Norman work and afterwards in early English work . He was surprised to find that again on other work in

Italy and on the pavement at Pompeii . What those marks were he did not know but believed they had some connection with this Brotherhood . It was marvellous that such a Brotherhood could hold together for centuries , and he hoped to remain a worthy member of the Order for many years . Bro . J . H . Payton also replied .

For " The Visitors" the following brethren responded—Bros . Leach Barrett , W . M . 2369 ; J . H . Price , Prov . G . Treas . Surrey ; W . E . Willby , P . M . 538 ; and T . E Biddlecombe , P . M . 1 7 G 5 . Bro . Rev . J . IT . Rose , P . M ., in response to the toast of "The Chaplain , " said he never doubted the good will and friendship of the members of that lodge , and it would be a bad thing indeed in his heart if there was a doubt about it . Bro . S . Webb , P . M ., Treas ., replying for "The Treasurer and Secretary , " said that as the humble individual who started tint bdge , without any assistance whatever

he was very proud of it and there was no reason whv he should not ba . He was sure that under the direction of the W . M . the Iodge would go on and prosper . Bro . Willby had said they were a family party and that was the secret of their success . There were no sections or parlies , and while they could keep it so they would continue to be successful . Bro . W . Cleghorn , P . M ., Sec , having responded , "The Officers" was duly honoured , and the Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings . Bro . A . Kenningham , Org ., conducted the musical arrangements , and was assisted by Bros . L . Fryer , De Lacey , and others .

Leopold Lodge , No . 1571 . The installation meeting of the above lodge , hitherto held on the second Monday in January , but now altered to the third Wednesday , was held at the Bridge House Hotel , London Bridge , on the 15 th ult ., when a large number of members and visitors assembled to witness the installation of Bro . The minutes of the last meeting having been confirmed and thc accounts for thepast year , as audited , showing a substantial balance in hand , adopted , and other business transacted , the W . M . vacated the chair in favour of the Installing Master , Bro . Wm . Carey , P . M ., Treas ., when Bro . Henry T . Meadows , S . W ., W . M . elect , was presented by Bro . Duffield , P . M ., D . Great Northern Lodge , No . 1287 . The installation meeting of this successful lodge , held at Freemasons' HaU , Great Queen-street , VV . C , attracted a large attendance of brethren to the number of about 120 . During its existence this lodge has been do ' ng excellent Masonic work , the ritual being inva . iably well rendered , brotherly love and good feeling prevailing , and assistance being given to the Masonic Charities . With regard to the latter it has divided its favours equally between the three Institutions , the whole amount

given by the lodge amounting to over £ 300 . During the past year the lodge suffered a severe loss in the death of its W . M ., Bro . Bastow , and the working of the [ chair has ? 'nce then been carried on under the excellent guidance of Bro . G . Ridout , I . P . M ., who installed Bro . C Davis as W . Bro .
