JERSEY . Csesarean Lodge ( No . 74 ) . —Seldom before had a larger gathering of Masons , certainly never of Mark Masons , assembled in the splendid hall of the Masonic Temple than met there on Wednesday , the 19 th ult . Mark Masonry has had a somewhat chequered existence in Jersey , and the history of the Caisarean Lodge , the only
lodge there working this Degree , would , if thoroughly investigated , fail , vve fear , to show an unbroken record of a vigorous or flourishing prosperity . The wonderful progress and advancement , however , which Mark Masonry has of late years made throughout the world , has caused its influence to be felt amongst the numerous brethren of the Craft resident in these charming islands of old
Normandy , and for some tune past a brighter light has illumined the fortunes of this insular lodge , ancl we trust that now the sun of its prosperity is firmly fixed in the firmament of the Masonic world , never , let us hope , to set again . And whilst congratulating the Jersey brethren on this pleasing and satisfactory condition of this lodge , let a due meed of praise not fail to be apportioned to the excellent , painstaking , and
devoted Secretary , Bro . J . VV . Hamling , to whom and to whose exertions is almost entirely due the rescue of the affairs of the lodge from a nearly chaotic confusion , and the inscription within the last two years of over 40 new members on the muster roll of the Degree . The lodge was opened , and , after the minutes had been read and confirmed , and several new candidates proposed
and balloted for , the W . M ., Bro . Stone , proceeded to advance Bros . Ernest le Sueur and R . Malet de Carteret . This work being completed , the Secretary read several communications from a number of distinguished brethren , expressing their regret at being unable to attend the meeting . Manyof the letters vvere from members of Grand Lodge , including one from Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke . The
W . M ., Bro . Stone , then notified that a dispensation had been received from Grand Lodge permitting Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret to be installed as W . M . for the ensuing year , and he had great pleasure in stating that Bro . J . Kenyon , P . G . I . G ., had consented to act as Installing-Master . Bro . J . Kenyon then assumed the gavel , and the usual ceremony was very ably carried out , increased interest
being added to it by Bro . j . D . Murray , P . G . Std . Br ., giving an appropriate and impressive address to each of the officers on their investiture with the collars of their respective offices by the VV . M . The following are the names of the officers invested : Bros . T . Stone , I . P . M . ; P . Bois , S . VV . ; F . J . Godfray , J . W . ; C . Marett , M . O . ; P . G . Hamilton , S . O . ; J . H . i . oldsinith , J . O . ; VV . T . Pugsley , Teas . ;
P . W . Davey , Reg . of Mks . ; J . W . Hamling , Sec . ; E .. Oldridge , S . D . ; Capt . H . Stevenson , J . D . ; H . M . Godfray , D . C . ; H . Becker , Org . ; J . C " Barette , I . G . ; and S . Gilley and J . Woodford , Stwds . The ceremonies of installation and investiture concluded , Bro . J . O . Le Sueur , P . M ., proposed that the thanks of the lodge should be given to the Installing and Investing Master . This was seconded by Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret , who suggested that
the names of thc other Grand Officers present—Bros . J . Balfour Cockburn , P . S . G . D ., and N . Nicholson , P . G . Treas . Lancashire , who had assisted at the ceremonies , should be included , and that all those brethren should be made honorary members of the lodge . This was carried unanimously , and suitable replies having been given , the lodge vvas closed . lt is quite impossible to give a full list of the brethren present or even of all the visitors , but we cannot omit to

chronicle the presence of Bros . Dr . Le Cronier , D . P . G . M . ; J . Durell , Davey , Blampied , Baal , Dr . Leslie de Vine , G . Reg . Peru ; T . Le Seelleur , T . Leat , Dr . T . J . Aubin , J . Oatley , J . E . Hamon , and L . Hespiradoux . The brethren now repaired to Bro . Bree's hotel , where a sumptuous banquet had been provided . The excellence of Bro . Bree ' s cuisine is well known , and the capital dinner
and the first class quality of the wines he placed before the brethren vvas worthy of the large and comfortable establishment vvhich he directs with so much courtesy and bou hommie . The usual loyal toasts having been duly honoured , Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret proposed "The Health of the Officers of Grand Lodge . "
This toast vvas responded to by the senior Grand Officer present , Bro . J . Balfour Cockburn , P . S . G . D ., who , after a few appropriate acknowledgments , felicitated the lodge on having secured as their W . M . so eminent and so distinguished a Mason as the Provincial Grand Master of Jersey , Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret . Such an appointment could not fail to be gratifying to Grand Lodge , inasmuch as
it was at once an unqualified assurance of thc continued and increased prosperity of the Caesarean Lodge . The toast of "The W . M . " vvas entrusted to the oldest P . M . of the lodge , Bro . J . O . Le Sueur . Bro . Kenyon , responded to the toast of "The Installing Master , " and took occasion to make some very valuable remarks with reference to the Charities .
Bro . J . D . Murray , P . G . Std . Br ., responded for "The Visitors , " and in the course of his speech took occasion to recommend a more diligent attention to the ritual and to the correct working of the Degree . He concluded by thanking the W M . and the brethren generally for their very courteous reception on that his first visit to the island , and he sincerely hoped he might have the pleasure of coming
again . In responding for the toast of "The Officers , " Bro . Bois enlarged much on the exertions of the Past Masters and past officers , as also on the zeal and energy exhibited by the Secretary , Bro . Hamling , by the present J . W ., Bro . F . J . Godfray , by Bro . Dodge , P . M ., and many others , under the distinguished guidance of their eminent Bro . Col . E . C .
Malet de Carteret . He felt assured they would have a most prosperous year of office . The conviviality of the evening vvas pleasingly diversified with music and songs , Bro . Dr . Leslie de Vine taking quite a lead with his serio-comic ditties . VVe must also not omit to state that in the course of the evening a Masonic ode , written especially for the occasion , vvas admirably rendered by the author , Bro . O . Dodge , P . M .

Bro . J . Kenyon then assumed the gavel , and the usual ceremony was very ably carried out , increased interest
being added to it by Bro . j . D . Murray , P . G . Std . Br ., giving an appropriate and impressive address to each of the officers on their investiture with the collars of their respective offices by the VV . M . The following are the names of the officers invested : Bros . T . Stone , I . P . M . ; P . Bois , S . VV . ; F . J . Godfray , J . W . ; C . Marett , M . O . ; P . G . Hamilton , S . O . ; J .

O . Dodge , P . M .
