The roll of members was called , and it was found that out of the whole College numbering 100 members , only seven had failed to appear or forward an excuse . The Secretary was instructed to forward the usual

notice to the defaulters . Frater Henry Thompson was elected to thc office of Provincial Treasurer . The Chief Adept , on behalf of the College , presented to Frater Wm . Brown a gold jewel and collarette of the office of Provincial Treasurer as a small recognition of his great services as Secretary of the College for a period of five years , at the snme time speaking in high terms of the activity ,

promptitude , and care exercised by Frater Brown in the really arduous duties vvhich fell to his lot as the Secretary of so large a body . Prater Brown responded in a few well chosen words . Frater G . L . VVright presented to the College a copy of the first volume of reprints of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge , for which he received a cordial vote of thanks , and it was resolved that the Secretary

should procure a suitable lock-up bookcase for the library ancl archives of the College , which should be kept at headquarters at York . Frater Schnitger was to have read a paper on Egyptian initiation , but owing to the mass of business there was no time for reading it . Accordingly it was agreed that the paper be printed and circulated amongst the Fratres , and that any discussion thereon should take

place at the next meeting of the College , which it was thereupon arranged should take place at Richmond in May . The Chief Adept , in addressing the College , said that he greatly regretted the want of time for Frater Schnitger ' s paper , which he had been privileged to peruse , and which ' contained much of what was extremely interesting . He had been trying to look into the subject , and had prepared a

few notes and queries for information . Some of these he proceeded to state to Frater Schnitger , ancl the latter promised not only to enlarge his paper , but at a future time to give further information on the subject , gleaned from several valuable and scarce works of which he vvas the fortunate possessor . The Chief Adept , continuing his address ,

congratulated the fratres on the great ancl marked progress of the college , which now numbered on its roll the names of many of the best known workers in Masonic literature in the North of England . He should like to see a paper read at every meeting , and if they adopted the plan of printing and circulating the papers before the quarterly gatherings , as was done in the case of most literary

societies , it would be possible to look forward to some reasonable and thoughtful criticism . He alluded to the widespread desire now exhibited amongst Freemasons to obtain real knowledge of their early history , and suggested that the field for papers that might be read before the college vvas very extensive , and would supply ample material without straying into paths of theosophy ( so-called ) , which were , he

thought , calculated to bring such a Society as theirs into contempt , but vvhich he understood it had been suggested in some quarters should be introduced . Five candidates vvere proposed , and the college vvas closed , and the fratres adjourned to the North-Eastern Hotel , vyhere a substantial tea was served , at the conclusion of vvhich a few toasts were given , and this most pleasant gathering broke up .
