About 200 guests gathered together in the large hall of the Public Rooms , Hull , on the evening of the iSth ult ., at the Masonic Charity ball , held under the auspices of the Humber Lodge , No . 57 . The room vvas nicely decorated with plants and tapestry , and generally the arrangements combined to the comfort of everyone . Close ' s Band supplied the music , and Bros . E . Corris , P . M ., and R . j . McLeavy , assisted by a number of stewards , conducted the

Lamonby , chairman of the directors , presiding . A very satisfactory report and balance-sheet was submitted and adopted . The directors recommended a dividend at the rate of 9 per cent per annum on the subscribed capital ,
but an amendment that it be 6 per cent , was carried by a small majority . The four retiring directors vvere re-elected . A vote of thanks vvas accorded the directors , and the Secretary , Bro . F . G . Wilson . The first annual ball in connection with the Derby Lodge , No . 724 , vvas held , on the iSth ult ., in the City Hall , Eberlestreet , Liverpool , when there vvas a large attendance of

The ball was in aid of the funds of the West Lancashire Educational Institution , and it is expected that a substantial sum , to be devoted to this deserving institution , will be the result of that nighps very pleasurable gathering , the arrangements for vvhich had been made by an energetic
committee , headed by Bro . C . W . Higson , W . M ., with Bro . T . Holmes as Honorary Secretary , and Bro . G . Beeken , P . M ., as Honorary Treasurer . The music vvas supplied by Bro . Busfield ' s band , and the duties of M . C . were discharged by Bro . J . Humphreys . Dancing was kept up until three o'clock the next morning .

Barton j Mr . J . J . Abbott and Mr . Seed
supplied the orchestration , and Mr . Arthur Miller accompanied , and with Miss Lamb performed Rossini ' s " William Tell , " while Mr . Wilson Blackledge contributed several humorous sketches . About 10 o'clock dancing commenced , and was kept up for about four hours . Mr . W . Lamb proved a courteous , obliging , and efficient M . C , Bros . G . Chew and J . R . Duckworth , as Stewards , contributing

The Carl Rosa Grand Opera Company has just concluded at Liverpool the longest and most successful engagement it has ever had there . At Drury Lane , where the troupe opens on April 5 , it will be seen for four weeks certain , and for even longer , if the public support justifies the extension of the season .

The testator bequeaths
£ 1000 and his furniture and household effects to his daughter ; £ 100 to each of his executors , Mr . Farran and Mr . Green j and £ 100 to each of his five brothers and sisters . The residue of his property he leaves to all his children in equal shares .
Our readers will regret to hear that Bro . H . H . Crawford ( City Solicitor ) , is seriously ill . Commencing with the influenza it subsequently developed into acute inflammation of the lungs . At one time he vvas delirious , his condition being most critical , Mr . Gordon Brown , who is in attendance , entertaining the greatest fears regarding his patient .
During the last few clays Bro . Crawford has somewhat improved , though he is still very seriously ill . Bro . Crawford has rooms at the Hotel Metropole where he is now lying . Under the most favourable circumstances , some weeks , it is feared , must elapse before Bro . Crawford is again able to make his appearance amongst his friends .

The concert over , the haltwas cleared for dancing , and though the concert vvas allowed by all present to have been an excellent and most
enjoyableone , yet much more enjoyment vvas derived by the majority ' of the brethren and their friends from the latter portion of the : re-union programme . The Carl Rosa Grand Opera Company has just concluded at Liverpool the longest and most successful engagement it has ever had there . That engagement has lasted for seven weeks , and next year—said Mr . H . Bruce , in his genial address on the last night of the " run " —the company may even stay longer . At Drury Lane , where the troupe opens on April 5 , it will be seen for four weeks certain , and for even longer , if the public support justifies the extension of the season .
_ The latest instalment of Mr . Jefferson's autobiography ( in the Century for March ) is the most interesting that has yet appeared . It includes some pleasant reminiscences of Laura Keene , of the original production of " Our American Cousin , " and the first American representations of " Dot " and the " Octoroon . " The woodcuts in this instalment are especially good . In the same issue of the Century , Henrik Ibsen and his work are very intelligently discussed by a compatriot of the dramatist .

Paul's-churchyard , and late of 7 , Oak-hill-road , Surbiton , bookseller and publisher , who died on December 13 th last , vvere proved on the 14 th ult ., the value of the personal estate amounting to over £$ 0 , 000 . The testator bequeaths
£ 1000 and his furniture and household effects to his daughter ; £ 100 to each of his executors , Mr . Farran and Mr . Green j and £ 100 to each of his five brothers and sisters . The residue of his property he leaves to all his children in equal shares .
Our readers will regret to hear that Bro . H . H . Crawford ( City Solicitor ) , is seriously ill . Commencing with the influenza it subsequently developed into acute inflammation of the lungs . At one time he vvas delirious , his condition being most critical , Mr . Gordon Brown , who is in attendance , entertaining the greatest fears regarding his patient .
During the last few clays Bro . Crawford has somewhat improved , though he is still very seriously ill . Bro . Crawford has rooms at the Hotel Metropole where he is now lying . Under the most favourable circumstances , some weeks , it is feared , must elapse before Bro . Crawford is again able to make his appearance amongst his friends .

The concert over , the haltwas cleared for dancing , and though the concert vvas allowed by all present to have been an excellent and most
enjoyableone , yet much more enjoyment vvas derived by the majority ' of the brethren and their friends from the latter portion of the : re-union programme . The dance music vvas supplied by Hudson's string baud , Bro . A . E . Workman being a highly efficient Master of Ceremonies . The proceeds of the re--union are to be devoted to the West Lancashire Masonic Charities .
