The first meeting of the Board of Stewards of the forthcoming Festival of the Girls' School will be held at the Board Room , Freemasons' Hall , on Wednesday , the 5 th inst ., at 5 o ' clock . D ., who was consecrated as Bishop of British Guiana on Saturday last in Westminster Abbey by the Archbishop of Canterbury , is a member of the Universities' Lodge , Durham .

We hear that Bro . W . Hancock , W . M . of the Anglo-American Lodge , No . 2191 , and Preceptor of the Islington Lodge of Instruction , is on his way to Constantinople . We wish him a safe journey and a speedy return to his native land .

The Empress Frederick of Germany visited the Hospital for Diseases of the Throat , Golden-square , on Monday , when her Imperial Majesty vvas pleased to dedicate the Children's Ward to the memory of her son , Prin-e Waldemar , vvho died in 1 S 70 , at the age of 11 years , of diphtheria .

Ihe Marquis of Salisbury , vvho was able to be removed from Arlington-street , to Hatfield , is progressing very favourably , and has been able to take carriage exercise . His private secretary , Mr . Gunton , vvho likewise had an attack of influenza , is also making satisfactory progress towards recovery .

Bro . Sir E . li . Malet , the British Ambassador to the Court of Berlin , and Lady Ermyntrude Malet left the German capital on Monday for I he purpose of attending the -vmera . of the late Duke of Bedford at Chenies . The late Duke and Lady Malet vvere brother and sister .

Her Majesty ' s new cruiser the Royal Arthur , bearing the Hag of Rear-Admiral Stephenson , sailed from Portsmouth on Tuesday , and after calling at Las Palmas , will continue her journey to Valpara i so and Stanley ( Falkland Islands ) . She will relieve the Warspite at Sandy Point , Straits of Magellan , on the 7 th May .

Bro . the Karl and Countess of Wharncliffe have gone to Wortley Hall , Sheffield , for the Easter recess ; Bro . Lord and Lady Tweedmouth to Bath ; Bro . Lord Brassey presided on Monday at the special general meeting of the Royal Colonial Institute , vvhich had een called for the purpose of considering the proposed amalgamation with the Imperial Institute . The speakers were nearly unanimous in their opposition to the scheme , a resolution being adopted to maintain the independence of the Colonial Institute , while working harmoniously vvith the Imperial .

Bro . the Marquis of Breadalbane gave a dinner party at Harcourt House on Saturday evening last , at which the guests included the Right Hon . the Prime Minister , the Earls of Kimberley and Chesterfield , Lords Acton , Sandhurst , and Reay , Bro . The Princess of Wales , with her daughters , the Princesses Victoria and Maud , and her son , the Dukeof York , have been making the most oi their cruise in the Mediterranean , landing from the Royal Yacht Osborne , from time to time , and visiting places of interest within easy reach of the

Italian seaboard . Her Royal Highness has ascended Vesuvius , ard after other excursions , returned to Naples from Castellamare on Tuesday . It is expected that the Royal party will reach Athens on Friday , the 7 th inst ., where they will remain for some time , on a visit to the King of Greece , who is brother to her Roya Highness .

The silver wedding of the King and Queen of Italy wil ' be celebrated in Rome and throughoutfltaly towards the close of the present month . The Oueen will be represented on the occasion by the Duke of York , vyho will arrive in the Italian capital on the 20 th or 21 st instant , and will be received at the railway station on his arrival by King Humbert , thc Italian princes , and thc British Ambassador , lt is the expressed wish ot King Humbert that the auspicious event

sh uld be celebrated by works of charity , and the Italian community in London will found as a memorial of the wedding a benevolent institution for the instruction of Italian children in the trades for which they may be the most fitted . In honour of the visit of the Emperor and Empress of Germany , who will visit Rome on the occasion , a grand tournament will be held at the Villa Borghese on the . ' 5 th instant , which will comprise illustrations of four great epochs in thc history of the House of Savoy , and at vvhich some 350 knights will take part in the proceedings .

Bro . Lord Brassey will preside at the annual dinner of the officers of the Royal Naval Reserve , vvhich will be held at the St . George ' s Club , Hanover-square , on the 5 th May next . Count Torneilli , the Italian Ambassador , gave a dinner party at the Embassy in Grosvenc r-square , on Monday evening , in honour of the French Ambassador and Madame Waddington .

Comp . Magnus Ohren , P . G . D . C , Assoc . M . Inst . C . E ., will be installed as M . E . Z . of Grand Masters Chapter , No . 1 , at the next meeting , to be held on Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., at the Hotel Victoria . The Yost Typewriter has been awarded the gold medal and diploma at the Universal Exhibition at Monaco . This makes the third gold medal awarded to the Yost within the last few months .

The Duke of Connaught has become patron of the Central London Throat and Ear Hospital , Gray ' s Innroad , and has presented a donation of j ( , 20 towards the Building Extension Fund . We much regret to hear that Bro . G . H . Foan , I . P . M . of the Covent Garden Lodge , No . 1614 , and Preceptor of the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , is suffering from a severe affliction . We heartily wish a speedy recovery .

The Duke of Cambridge has presented a handsome stained glass window to Kew Parish Church as a memorial to his mother , the late Duchess of Cambridge . It is placed behind the communion table , close to the mausoleum , where the remains of the late Duchess are interred .

The annual meeting of the Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians was held on Monday evening under the presidency of Sir Andrew Clark , vvho vvas re-elected to the office of President for the ensuing year . The annual banquet , vvhich followed , vvas held at Limmcr ' s Hotel .

Bro . A . J . Altman was the recipient , on Thursday evening last , of a testimonial , consisting of a very beautiful silver salver , suitably inscribed , as 1 mark of his colleagues ' appreciation of his courtesy , geniality , and good services during his year of office as Chairman of the Coal and Corn and Finance Committee of the Common Council .

Bro . Sir Augustus Harris , P . G . Treas ., presided at a Court dinner of the Patten Makers' Company on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Cannon-street Hotel . A special significance was attached to this gathering , as it celebrated the election of Sir Augustus Harris as Master of the company for the second time .

Princess Christian , Princess Louise Marchioness of Lome , and the Duchess of Edinburgh have become patronesses of the Children's Salon "At Home , " which will take place at thc Westminster Town Hall , on the 20 th April , towards completing the endowment of the Memorial Cot in the Victoria Hospital for Children , which is named after the late Duke of Clarence and Avondale .

The Drapers' Company have lately made a grant of £ 150 a year , for three years , to the Rev . S . A . Harnett's Committee for helping pupil teachers to finish their training at Oxford or Cambridge . The expense of the University is greater than that of an ordinary training college , but the advantages are , of course , considerable . The Committee seeks to raise the amount at its disposal for these scholarships to £ 500 per annum .

A CORRECTION . —In our report of the meeting of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of 1- ngland and Wales last week , it is stated that the Rev . I . M . Vaughan was appointed Grand Chaplain , and replied for " The Deputy Grand Master and the Grand Officers . " It should have been the Rev . H . Maugham , M . A ., Vicar of Whitstable , Chaplain of the Invicta 1 ouncil , No . 14 , meeting at the Masonic Temple in Canterbury .

The Prince of Wales has made known his intention of laying the memorial stone of the new wing of the Royal United Service Institution—lately the Chanel Roval , Whitehall—on Tuesday , the Oth Junp , while immediately after the ceremony a Naval and Military Costume Bazaar wilt

be opened under the patronage of the Queen in aid of the building fund . Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar is Chairman , and Prince Adolphus of Teck and Count Gleichen are members of the Committee in charge of the arrangements for the function .

The directors of the City of London General Pension Society , on the motion ot Mr . J . H . Batty , C . C , seconded by Dr . Osborne Smith , have passed a special voteof thanks to Lieut .-Col . The widespread ruin that has been brought about through the failures of the Liberator and other kindred building societies is awakening general sympathy , and many offers of assistance are pouring in upon the Committee who have kindly consented to raise a fund for the benefit of the sufferers . Mr . Horace Sedger has most opportunely proposed , with the sanction of the General Committee , to give a series of performances of " The Golden Web " at the Lyric Theatre during the coming season , when the whole proceeds will be devoted , in their entirety , to this highly-deserving object .

On Sunday the death occurred suddenly , it is understood , from apoplexy , of Bro . George Joseph Westbury , landlord of the City Arms , Church-sireet , Worcester . Bro . Westbury , who vvas well known in the town , was formerly a commercial traveller . MEMORIAL TOSIR FRANCIS BURDETT . —Messrs . Whilehead and Sons of the Granite Works , Aberdeen , will in the course of another fortnight erect in the churchyard of Foremark , Derbyshire , a very handsome memorial , composed of polished red granite , Sicilian white marble and stone , with a bronze raised recumbent cross . In honour of the visit of the Emperor and Empress of Germany , who will visit Rome on the occasion , a grand tournament will be held at the Villa Borghese on the . The Duke of Cambridge has presented a handsome stained glass window to Kew Parish Church as a memorial to his mother , the late Duchess of Cambridge . It is placed behind the communion table , close to the mausoleum , where the remains of the late Duchess are interred .

Princess Christian , Princess Louise Marchioness of Lome , and the Duchess of Edinburgh have become patronesses of the Children's Salon "At Home , " which will take place at thc Westminster Town Hall , on the 20 th April , towards completing the endowment of the Memorial Cot in the Victoria Hospital for Children , which is named after the late Duke of Clarence and Avondale .

The Drapers' Company have lately made a grant of £ 150 a year , for three years , to the Rev . S . A . Harnett's Committee for helping pupil teachers to finish their training at Oxford or Cambridge . The expense of the University is greater than that of an ordinary training college , but the advantages are , of course , considerable . The Committee seeks to raise the amount at its disposal for these scholarships to £ 500 per annum .

The widespread ruin that has been brought about through the failures of the Liberator and other kindred building societies is awakening general sympathy , and many offers of assistance are pouring in upon the Committee who have kindly consented to raise a fund for the benefit of the sufferers .
