He would further inform him that one of the great principles and teachings in Alasonry was to help one another and to hold firmly together , and practise outside

thc lodge that which he heard in it . Bro . ATontgomcry concluded by asking jiardon for keeping the brethren so long while proposing this toast , and called upon them to drink the initiate's health , which vvas done , and Bro . another and higher flight before many years passed over . When that time came they would part with their worth y brother with regret . He had further to congratulate Bro . , , soon afterwards rose , and after dwelling at length on thc merits and Masonic ability ol their late Bro . Cooke , proposed that a sum of £ 23 be granted to his widow . It appeared from Bro . West ' s remarks that Bro . Cooke ' s widow was in need of pecuniary help , and contemplated giving musical lessons to pupils , and taking a smaller house than that in which she at present resided , and it was with

a view to assist her in carrying out her advised resolve tbat this sum of £ 23 vvas asked to be granted by the lodge , as it would pay the rent for one year of the house in which Airs . Cheshire , in addition , remarking how gratified he had been that day in witnessing the ceremony of installation so skilfully performed by Bro . Crompton , and assured them that in the whole course of his Masonic experience he had never seen it surpassed by so young a man . He said that , if in order . it would afford him the greatest pleasure to propose a vote of thanks to Bro . Crompton for his ability .

Bro . R . R . Lisenden seconded the motion , which was carried . Bro . Crompton briefly returned thanks , after which the lodge vvas closed in peace and harmony at 5 . 20 . The brethren adjourned to the Talbot Hotel , where a substantial banquet had been prepared for them . At the termination of the banquet the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were proposed and responded to . In response to the

toast ot "Col . the Right Hon . Fred Stanley , V . W . D . P . G . AL , and the Present and Past Provincial Grand Officers , " Bro . R . S . Allpass , Prov . G . Sec . W . L ., remarked it had afforded him a very great deal of pleasure in being present there that day and witness the progress the lodge had made since its formation . The members of the lodge were evidently a united band , and , as far as he had noticed that

day , there had been no cavilling as to appointment of officers , and everything vvas earned on with unanimity and concord . He had seen with satisfaction what the lodge had done for the Charities , and he had been pleased to note that afternoon the hearty and substantial response they had made to the appeal on behalf of Bro . Cooke ' s widow . Hejhad had the pleasure of knowing Bro . Cooke , and he considered

they had shown the true spirit of Alasonry in granting the sum they had to his widow . Bro . Allpass spoke in hi gh praise of suburban and country lodges that he had visited from time to time , and said that as regards unanimity , working , and offerings to Charities , they contrasted most favourably with any in Liverpool , and concluded by again expressing the pleasure he had experienced in being

present amongst them that day , and thanked them for their munificent offerings to Charities and their hearty reception and hospitable treatment of himself . Bro . Jno . Beresford , P . P . S . G . D . Cheshire , and Bro . J . H . Sillitoe , P . P . G . D . of C . E . Lane , also responded to the toast . The latter brother , in thc course of his remarks , said it vvas somewhat difficult to follow in the footsteps of so experienced a

speaker as Bro . Allpass , and he felt it was placing him in an awkward position to attempt it . He , however , could truly endorse all that Bro . Allpass had stated , and especially as regarded the able manner in which the installation ceremony had been performed that day . He had had a great deal of experience with installation ceremonies , and , being an old Installing Alaster himself , could truly say that

he had never seen the ceremony su well performed as it had been that day . Bro . Sillitoe concluded by thanking them for the hospitality and kindness he had received at their hands . In proposing "'The Health of the W . AL , " Bro . T . A . Crompton , I . P . AL , said most of the brethren were aware of the services Bro . Crosby had rendered to the

lodge during his connection with it . He himself recalled the night when Bros . Crosby and Goodacre , P . AL ( who , unfortunately , vvas absent from their midst on account of a death in his family ) , met in Bro . Wakefield ' s sitting room , and discussed the preliminaries connected with the formation of the Prince Leopold Lodge . Bro . Crosby , their new ( Continued on page 200 ) .

a view to assist her in carrying out her advised resolve tbat this sum of £ 23 vvas asked to be granted by the lodge , as it would pay the rent for one year of the house in which Airs . Cheshire , in addition , remarking how gratified he had been that day in witnessing the ceremony of installation so skilfully performed by Bro .

20 . The brethren adjourned to the Talbot Hotel , where a substantial banquet had been prepared for them . toast ot "Col . the Right Hon .
