The Committee also recommend that , in view of a communication received from the Grand Superintendent of Essex , and the further information furnished by the petitioners , the prayer of the petition for a chapter to be attached to the Beaconsfield Lodge , No . 1662 , London , to be called the Philbrick Chapter , and to meet at the Masonic Hall , Walthamstow , be now unconditionally granted . The Committee have likewise received a memorial , with extracts from minutes , for permission to remove the following chapters :

The Duke of Cornwall Chapter , No . 1839 , from the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , to the Holborn Restaurant , High Holborn , London The Committee being satisfied of the reasonableness of the above request , recommend that the removal of this chapter be sanctioned . The Committee having received a communication from the Philanthropic Chapter , No . 405 , Port of Spain , recommend that further time be allowed to reply to the summons sent to it .

The above Provincial Grand Chapter was held at the Working Mens ' Institute , Ormskirk , on the 21 st ult ., the large hall being divided so as to form a chapter and ante-rooms . After the Provincial Grand Chapter had been opened in due form , the roll of Prov . Grand Officers and chapters was called , all the latter being represented , and the total attendance exceeded 150 . The accounts , showing a balance in hand of £ 97 , were presented , audited by Comps . Jas . Piatt , P . P . G . S . ; James T . Callow , P . P . G . T . ; and Jas . J . Lambert , P . Prov . G . R ., and adopted . For the elective office of Prov . G . T ., the only nomination was

that of Comp . Philip Armstrong , who was supported by companions of Liverpool chapters and by companions of chapters outside Liverpool , and unanimously elected . The retiring Auditors were re-elected , the retiring Treasurer being appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Comp . H . W . Johnston . SEVENTH ANNUAL DINNER OF THE PERSEVERANCE LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 1743 .

The members and friends of this lodge of instruction held their annual festival at their regular place of meeting , Ridler ' s Hotel , Holborn , E . C , on Monday , the 12 th ult . The W . M ., Bro . J . Gemmell , opened the lodge , assisted by Bros . A . Collins , S . W . ; J . W . Rozier , J . W . ; F . Collins , I . G . ; J . H . Bridgman , acting Secretary ; R . Poore , P . M ., Preceptor ; and about 20 other brethren .

Six new members were . proposed and seconded for membership , and were duly elected . The lodge was then closed . An excellent dinner was waiting to be served to the brethren , of whom 32 sat down . Dinner over , the CHAIRMAN rose to propose the toast of Her Majesty the Queen . " This year being her Majesty ' s Diamond Jubilee , he considered the toast should be received with , if possible , more than the usual enthusiasm—and it undoubtedly was , and with musical honours . The CHAIRMAN next proposed " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M . 1

the Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and said he was sure they were all assured as to the great benefit his Royal Highness had conferred on Freemasonry by presiding over its affairs , and , as Masons , they were always ready to show their appreciation for the honour he had conferred . The toast was vigorously responded to .

The welcome permission to smoke was given from the chair , and the attention of the brethren was called to Bro . L . Gwynn Jones for a song— "Tommy Atkins . " Bro , J . GEMMELL gave the toastof " The Perseverance Lodge of Instruction , " and said the lodge was formed to help Masons to fit themselves for the discharge of the duties of all the offices of a regular lodge , so that should they be appointed or elected to any office , even that of W . M ., they would be enabled to acquit

themselves in a manner satisfactory to all . He also said that lodge of instruction was not only useful to young Masons , but also to many Worshipful Masters and eyen Past Masters , who often wanted their memories freshened up , more particularly in thc ceremony of installation . He himself owed his thanks to Bro . Poore , the Preceptor , for the knowledge he had gained . He , therefore , gave them the toast " Prosperity to the Perseverance Lodge of Instruction . " The toast was very warmly received .

The CHAIRMAN called on Bro . H . Bridgman to respond for the lodge , who said it was a great pleasure for him , he having joined the lodge together with their Chairman of to-night , in the first year of their existence . Bro . Poore was a most excellent Preceptor and as long as his valued services could be obtained in that capacity , together with Bro . Daunton ' s as Secretary , the lodge was sure to prosper . He thanked Bro . Gemmell for the able manner in which he proposed the toast .

Bro . POORE rose to propose " The Health of the Chairman , and , having said he was happy and proud to be entrusted with this proposal , as well as with the pleasing function which was to be connected with it on this occasion , proceeded : I may observe that Bro . Daunton and Bro . Bridgman are the oldest members of this lodge of instruction now present . The Chairman being our Secretary , we are fully aware that he does a considerable amount of work for us and does it thoroughly . I know well enough the responsibility of a Secretary , having been Secretary of the United

Pilgrims Lodge , and being at the present time Secretary of the Brixton Lodge , so I can speak with authority on this point ; our Secretary , Bro . Daunton , is always ready to cheerfully carry out the wishes of the members of the Lodge and sometimes our instructions entail a good deal of time and labour ; our Secretary has also done other very good work for the Masonic Charities . Last year he served a Stewardship for the Boys' Institution and this year for the Old People , on which occasion he went up with a list of £ 138 ios ., a large portion of which was contributed through the Benevolent Association affiliated to this lodge .

Bro . DAUNTON : I have now , on behalf of this lodge , to ask you to accept this present—a microscope—subscribed for by the members , and I trust it will be of use to you and afford you a fascinating and instructive pastime , and may you live long to enjoy it . At the request of the CHAIRMAN Bro . Verdier gave a ledgerdemain performance , which was much appreciated .

The CHAIRMAN rose to respond amidst prolonged cheers . He said he had had the honour to be their Secretary for several years and had certainly attended very regularly to the meetings . Meeting the brethren there on Mondays was a pleasure to him and the work he did was a labour of love , for which he felt amply rewarded by seeing the lodge grow and prosper . He always received the recorded vote of thanks annually with giatification and never expected such a handsome present ; he had done all he could to further the interests of the lodge and hoped

to continue to do so . It was his privilege to be initiated into Freemasonry II years ago by Bro . Poore , and he well remembered the admonition that he was now expected to make the liberal arts and sciences his future study , and extend his researches into the more hidden mysteries of Nature by the aid of that splendid instrument , vhich had been S 3 kindly presented to him . He should be enabled to carry out that admonition in the full literal sense , and he should always prize it as one of his most valued possessions .

Bro . J . J . NEWI . ANIJ next proposed "The Preceptor , " and said the brethren all knew what a painstaking Instructor their Bro . Poore was , and how willing he was to devote time and attention to coach up any brother who was anxious to
