The M . E . Z . gave " The Past Principals . " In the course of his remarks he touched upon the great services rendered to Masonry in general by two of their body , namely , Comps . Dr . Lott and Lardner . The former was the founder of a very prosperous lodge formed on the lines of the Orpheus . He had also floated the Mozart Chapter , but , uniortunately , musical brethren were so much engaged professionally , that ihey had not ihe time to enter

other grades , consequently the chapter was languishing a little . Dr . Lott ' s Masonic motto was " nil desperadum , " and he ( the M . E . Z . ) believed that ere long the chapter would be as successful as several other Masonic bodies that owed their existence and prosperity to their worthy Past Principal . Comp . Dr . Lott having replied , the proceedings shortly afterwards terminated .

M ., in referring to the steady progress of the lodge , said it simply shared in the general advancement of Mark Masonry , which now numbered upwards cf 25 , 000 members and 400 lodges . No doubt its prosperity was due in a large measure to the support accorded to it by their

G . M . and the distinguished members of Grand Lodge . Not long since Mark Masonry was regarded by all as simply a Side Degree , but , by the progress of time and its beneficial work , the Mark Degree had established for itself a place and name in Freemasonry which entitled it to the highest esteem and regard . Later in the evening , the W . M . stated his intention to offer his services as a Steward at the next Anniversary of the Mark Benevolent Fund .
