A Special General Court of Governors and Subscribers to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys will be held at Freemasons' Hall , on Thursday next , the 6 th inst , at the hour of noon , for the purpose of taking into consideration the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into the discipline , management , and expenditure of the School , which was presented by Bro . Philbrick , Q . C , G . Registrar , to the Quarterly General Court on the 26 th of April last .
The regular monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution will be held at Freemasons' Hall to-morrow ( Saturday ) , at 4 p . m ., when doubtless there will be a large attendance , as it is the meeting appointed for the Election of the House and Audit Committees .
We regret to hear that Bro . VV . Burdett Coutts M . P ., has been suffering from an attack of an intermittent ' fever , and , under medical advice , has given up all his engagements during the present week . The Treasurer and Masters of the Bench of the Inner Temple have placed their gardens at the disposal of
the Royal Horticultural Society for the purpose of a flower show which was to be opened at the close of the term , on the 30 th ult ., and continued to-morrow ( Friday ) . Bro . Lord Halsbury , Lord Chancellor of England , presided at the annual festival dinner , held at the H 6 tel Metropole , on the 23 rd ult ., in aid of the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic , Queen-square , Bloomsbury . The subscriptions in the coursed of the evening amounted to £ 2400 .
We regret to hear that the health of Bro . the Earl of Bective , M . P ., P . G . M . of Cumberland and Westmorland , has been by no means completely restored by his lordship's recent trip up the Nile , his medical advisers having ordered him to seek further rest . His lordship has accordingly repaired to his seat of Underley Hall , Kirkby Lonsdale , and will not resume his Parliamentary duties till after Whitsuntide .
The Queen completed her 70 th year on Friday , the 24 th ult ., and at Windsor the event was celebrated in the usual way , while , in addition , the ceremony of trooping the colour at the Castle was witnessed for the first time for many years by her Majesty in person . _ THE UNEMPLOYED IN EAST LONDON . —At a time when much thought is being given to this matter , a
practical suggestion may be of service . Last year more than £ 300 , 000 worth of foreign matches were purchased by inconsiderate consumers in this country , to the great injury of our own working people , so true is it that " evil is wrought by want of thought , as well as want of heart . A recent number of the Canadian Craftsman records the death , on the 26 th January last , of bto . Richard Holmes , of Plum Hollow , Leeds , Ontario , who was 102 years of age , and was initiated into Freemasonry in 1 S 13 , being thus , according to our contemporary , " the oldest member of the Crait in North America . " He was an honorary member of the Farmersville Lodge , and had
occupied the farm on which he died since 1 S 27 . He was the father of 12 children , of whom 10 survive him . We regret to hear of the sudden death on Monday , the 27 th ult ., of Bro . A recent number of the Canadian Craftsman records the death , on the 26 th January last , of bto . Richard Holmes , of Plum Hollow , Leeds , Ontario , who was 102 years of age , and was initiated into Freemasonry in 1 S 13 , being thus , according to our contemporary , " the oldest member of the Crait in North America . " He was an honorary member of the Farmersville Lodge , and had
occupied the farm on which he died since 1 S 27 . He was the father of 12 children , of whom 10 survive him . We regret to hear of the sudden death on Monday , the 27 th ult ., of Bro . John Lee Dale , of the Doric Lodge , No . 933 .
