The Crusaders Lodge , No . 1677 , are about to erect two large stained glass windows in St . James ' s Cnurch , Clerkenwell , to commemorate the restoration of this , their parish church , 'The artist commissioned to execute the windows is Bro . Charles Evans , of 20 , Warwickstreet , Regent-street , W . 'The subjects are connected with Freemasonry , and the seal of the Grand Lodge , with that of the Crusaders , will be introduced

The annual Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham has baen arranged by the Provincial Grand Alaster , Bro . the Alarquess of Londonderry , to be held at Darlington , early in October . A special meeting" of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire will be held at Birkenhead this ( Saturday ) afternoon , the 1 st July , when Bro . the Right Hon . Lord de Tabley , R . VV . P . G . M .. will lay the foundation-stone of the VVirral Children ' s Infirmary .

Bro . Thomas Whitehead was installed Worshipful Alaster of the Alerchants' Lodge , No . 241 , on Tuesday last , at the Alasonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool ; and the banquet vvas served at the Prince of Wales Hotel , Southport . A report of the proceedings will appear in our next issue .

Lord Headicy , the officers and gentlemen of the Light Horse of the Hon . Artillery Company on Wednesday night last entertained at'dinnner , at the Albion , Lieutenant-Colonel his Grace the Duke of Portland . The following guests were invited : Viscount Baring , AI . P ., Lords Arthur and Henry Somerset , Lord Lurgan , and others .

Among those who have recentl y joined the Committee of the Volunteer Service Club are Bros , the Alarquis of Londonderry , P . G . AI . Durham ; the Earl of Whaincliffe , Lord Henniker , G . M . M . AI : ; Lord Suffield , P . G . M . Norfolk ; and Colonel Ridgway .

A . mong those injured in the accident which befel the express train from Newcastle to King ' s Cross , when it was within three or four miles of Peterborough , and travelling at the rate of some fifty miles an hour , was Bro . Dodds , M . P ., who vvas bruised on the left shoulder and cut about the face and hands . He was an occupant of a first-class compartment , and asleep at the time , and the carriage in

which he travelled being overturned , he had to be extricated through a broken window . Though severely shaken , Bro . Dodds vvas enabled to proceed on his way to London , which he readied shortly after midnight . We trust our respected brother will experience only a passing discomfort from his injuries , and congratulate him on having escaped so lightly , having regard to the terrible character of the accident .

The Beacon Court Lodge , No . 19 C 7 , was consecrated at New Brompton , on VVednesday last . Bro . VV . J . Blakey vvas installed as W . AL Bro . James Stevens will deliver his lecture on the First Degree at the Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction on the 11 th inst .

Bro . W . H . Saunders invited a numerous company to be present at the ceremony of christening the first of the new roads on his estates , Warley Alount and Shenfield Park , yesterday ( Friday ) . The Whitehall Review , which is giving an exceptionally good series of portraits , last week depicted

Lady Hanson , of whom the paper states— " Constance Hallett , daughter of Air . C . Bentley Bingley , of Stanhope Park , Greenford , Aliddlesex , vvas married to Bro . R . Hanson , Alderman and Sheriff of London , in iSGfi . There are two sons and two daughters . Lady Hanson is deservedly a social favourite . "

The Parkes Museum , which was first instituted in 1 S 76 as a memorial to the late Dr . Edmund Parkes , and in order to promote the health of the community , for which Dr . Parkes so successfully devoted the best years of his life , was incorporated on VVednesday last . The museum has been temporarily located in University College , Gowerstreet , but negotiations are now being made for acquiring a

building in a more central position . Since its establishment six years ago the total expenses have not amounted to jCiooo , and , owing to this economical management , the first Council of the incorporated institution commence their work with a fund of £ 1030 , nnd a collection of apparatus and appliances valued at upwards of £ 1000 . The first meeting of the Council vvas held on Thursday , Captain Douglas Galton , F . R . S ., in the chair , when the following

officers were elected unanimously : Treasurer , Professor Berkoly Hill , Al . B . ; Honorary Solicitor , Mr . Basil Field ; and Secretary , Air . Mark II . Judge , A . R . I . B . A . It was unanimously decided to remove the collection of articles at present housed in University College to premises more suited for the purposes of display and instruction ; and a Building Committee vvas appointed to carry out this resolution .

The eig hth annual excursion to Hastings in aid of the Printing Machine Alanagers' Superannuation Fund is announced for this day ( Satarday ) . The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths have made a donation of £ 20 ( the second this year ) to the funds of the City Orthopredic Hospital , Hatton-garden .

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire will be held at the Town Hall , Hertford , on Thursday , the 13 th inst , at 2 . 30 p . m . The annual festival of the Chaucer Lodge of Instruction will be held at the Royal Kentish Hotel , Tunbridge Wells , on VVednesday , the 12 th inst .

Bro . Alderman Knight and Mrs . Knight have issued invitations for an " at home , " at their residence , Elms Side , Hampton , on Alonday , the 10 th inst . The foundation stone of the new parish church for Hammersmith will be laid this day ( Saturday ) by Prince Leonold .

Bro . the Rt . Hon . the Lord Mayor presided at the annual meeting of the Cabdrivers' Benevolent Association , on Friday last , at the Guildhall , and vvas supported by the Earl of Shaftesbury , Cardinal Alanning , Lord Algernon Percy , AI . Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales , accompanied by the Prince of Wales , will honour by their presence a garden party to be held at the British Home for Incurables , Clapham , on July 19 th , to celebrate the twentyfirst anniversary of the charity , which was founded July 20 th , 1 S 61 . Her Royal Highness the Princess has kindly consented to receive purses for the benefit of the Institution on that occasion .

The Duchess of Teck will present the prizes at the British Orphan Asylum to-day ( Saturday ) . Mr . Spencer Walpolc has been awarded a medal by the Society of Arts for his paper on " The Fish Supply of London . "

At a Volunteer competition at Avonmouth , near Bristol , Corporal Lerway , of the local Engineer Volunteer Corps , made what is belived to be the highest score on record , namely 103 out of a possible 105 . He had seven shots at 200 , 500 , and Coo yards , scoring 35 points at the first , and 34 at each of the other two .

The athletic sports of the Honourable Artiliery Company take place to-day ( Saturday ) , at the Artillery Grounds , Finsbury . The Great Eastern Railway Company will today ( Saturday ) open a garden and general farm produce depot at the Bishopsgate goods station .

Bro . the Earl and Countess of Breadalbane had a dinner party on 'Tuesday evening last , at their house in Cavendish-square . The Prime Minister has sent ^ 50 to the Lord Mayor ' s fund for the Egyptian refugees . The Prince and Princess of Wales" " were present at the -Military Fete in the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital on Friday last , the proceeds of which will be devoted to erecting Army Coffee Taverns in garrisons and camps .

Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Hanson and Mr . Sheriff Ogg visited Windsor Castle on Thursday last , when the honour of knighthood were conferred upon them by Her Alajesty , in connection with the recent visit to Epping Forest . Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon , Pro . G . M ., as President of the Society of Antiquaries , had a conversazione at

his house in Portman-square on Wednesday last , at which there was a numerous gathering of antiquarians and gentlemen belonging to different learned and scientific institutions in the metropolis . Bro . J . R . Behenna was on Saturday last installed as W . AI . of the Chislehurst Lodge , No . 15 V .

The anniversary meeting of the Young Men ' s Friendly Society was held on Thursday , in the library of Lambeth Palace , the Archbishop of Canterbury . presiding . The new offices of the Daily Telegraph , were on Wednesday night opened in the presence of a number of distinguished persons , and among the company were their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Albany , the Prince of Leiningen , and Count Gleichen .

On Wednesday afternoon last the one hundred and twenty-eighth annual meeting of the Society of Arts took place at the rooms of the society , John-street , Adelphi , when Sir Frederick Bramwell , the chairman of the council , read his annual address . The chairman said that of all the subjects with which the public mind has been lately much exercised , perhaps none ( of a non-political character ) had

given rise to so much controversy as the Channel Tunnel ; and the importance of ready inter-communication of nations in its bearing upon art , manufactures and commerce will , the council believe , have amply justified their invitation to Sir Edward Watkin to open a discussion on the subject before the society . Electricity in all its forms , especially that of street lighting , had engaged the special attention of the society . The number of members of the society

still continued to increase . During the year 273 members had been removed from their list by death or resignation . In the same period 373 had been elected . There was , therefore , an increase of 100 . The total number of life and subscribing members and institutions in union which subscribe to the society from their own funds vvas 3429 . A vote of thanks to the chairman for his able address brought the proceedings to a close .

Bro . George 1 homas was on Monday last intalled as W . AI . of the Glamorgan I-odge , No . 3 6 , Cardiff . The Mansion House Fund for the relief of European refugees from Egypr , ^ which vvas opened last week with a subscription from Earl Granville , is in progress . The committee held their first meeting at the Mansion House on Wednesday last .

Earl Granville , president of the Association for the Oral Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb , Fitzroy-square , presided yesterday afternoon at a numerously attended meeting of its friends and supporters , held , by permission of the Duke of Westminster , at Crosvenor House . His lordship said that the system had made great progress , and vvas now generally admitted to be the best mode of teaching the deaf , but he regretted that the institution was much in need of funds , which he hoped would be supplied .

On Wednesday last Wak-bun-a-Kee , the second chief of the Indian tribe , the Munceys , who is now in this country , appeared among the distinguished strangers in the House of Commons , He had on the war and hunting dress of his tribe—a headress of eagle's featherswith a

, tunic and mocassins of skins . Round his ankles hung the hoofs of deer , and in his belt he had the tomahawk of his ancestors . The Chief , in the course of the day , had an interview with Mr . Ashley at the Colonial Office , in reference to the restoration of the lands belonging to the tribe .

The Princessof Wales , as Patronessof the British Home for Incurables , Clapham-rise , accompanied by the Prince of Wales , will honour by her presence a garden party , to be held at the Institution on July the 19 th , to celebrate the " coming of age " of the charity . Owing to the limited space , a certain number of tickets will be issued at half a guinea each . A guard of honour of the 7 th Surrey

Rifle Volunteers will attend with their band . The Bands of the Grenadier Guards and a choir will perform during the afternoon . The Princess of Wales having consented to receive purses of £ 5 5 s . and upwards , ladies wishing to assist the charity in this manner will receive full information on application to the secretary , R . G . Salmond , 73 , Cheapside .

The Earl of Morley presided on Wednesday last a a meeting , held at the Westminster Palace Hotel , to promote a scheme for training schoolmasters for middleclass schools . The attendance was representative in its character , and resolutions were passed affirming the need of a training college for teachers ; that it should be under the inspection of the universities ; and that support should be sought from the universities and from public schoolmasters .

The Secretary to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys acknowledges a contribution of one hundred and fifty guineas froin a member of the Court of Common Council at the Anniversary Festival , presided over by the Right Hon . the Lord Alayor .

The Prince of Wales has appointed Mr . G . Watson , jun ., of Rochester , Organising Secretary to the Royal College of Music Air . Watson is Honorary Secretary to the Rochester and Chatham Choral Society . We have much pleasure in announcing that the anniversary banquet of the Temperance-in-the-East Lodce

The Queen received on Tuesday , with much thankfulness , the assurance that the Duke of Edinburgh was not the worse for his narrow escape from drowning near the Bayona Bridge , Santiago . While fishing , His Roval Highness ' s foot slipped , and he was carried into the

weir , where he vvas nearly drowned , being carried under four times in sixteen feet of water . The Duke vvas altogether half-an-hour in the water before he was brought to shore . The Queen also received a telegram from His Royal Highness stating that he had suffered no ill effects from the accident .

A meeting of Langton Lodge , No . 1 C 13 , was held on Thursday , the 22 nd ult ., at the Mansion House Station Restaurant , when , considering the state of the weather , there was a very good muster of' the brethren . _ The lodge was opened ^ in the usual manner and the minutes were read and confirmed . The lodge then opened up to the Third Degree , resuming in the First , when

the ceremony of initiation vvas rehearsed , Bro . J . D . Langton acting as candidate . After a call off the W . M . rose for the first time , and Bro . Shaw was unanimously elected W . AI , for the next meeting , and he announced that his work would be the Second Degree and Second and Third Sectionsof the Third Lectures ; after which the W . M . rose for the second and third times , and the lodge was closed until Thursday next .

given rise to so much controversy as the Channel Tunnel ; and the importance of ready inter-communication of nations in its bearing upon art , manufactures and commerce will , the council believe , have amply justified their invitation to Sir Edward Watkin to open a discussion on the subject before the society . Earl Granville , president of the Association for the Oral Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb , Fitzroy-square , presided yesterday afternoon at a numerously attended meeting of its friends and supporters , held , by permission of the Duke of Westminster , at Crosvenor House . His lordship said that the system had made great progress , and vvas now generally admitted to be the best mode of teaching the deaf , but he regretted that the institution was much in need of funds , which he hoped would be supplied .
