It is believed that Bro . General Lord Wolseley will be the guest of Bro . Bass at Tulchan Lodge , Strathspey , during a considerable part of the season , and that he will shoot over the moors in that district .

P ., has consented to attend the Cutlers' annual feast at Sheffield on Thursday , the 5 th September , and will address a public meeting in that town the day following . Bro . George Plucknett , P . G . D ., presided at the 37 th annual meeting , on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., at Willis ' s Rooms , St . James ' s , of the Builders' Benevolent Institution . Bro . Plucknett was subsequently re-elected Treasurer of the Institution .

Bro . the Lord Mayor , M . P ., and the Misses Fowler were at Wimbledon on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., when the Public Schools' Match was shot off , his lordship ' s son being one of the Harrow team , and making the second highest score for his school .

Durham , in succession to the late Marquis of Londonderry , will take place in the Castle Hall , Durham , on Friday , the 21 st instant . The ceremony will be performed by Bro . the Earl of Lathom , D . G . M . England and Prov . G . M . West Lancashire . The Brixton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1949 ,

will not meet on the Tuesday following Bank Holiday , but on Tuesday evening , the nth inst ., the Preceptor , Bro . E . A . Treas ., were among the guests at the banquet given at the Guildhall Tavern , on Friday , the 24 th ult ., by the City of London School Committee . Several of these were present at the distribution of prizes to the successful pupils

earlier in the day . Bro . the Earl of Lathom , the Deputy Grand Master of England , has fixed Friday , the 21 st inst ., for the installation of Sir Hedworth Williamson as Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Durham , in the place of the late Marquess of Londonderry . The ceremony will be performed in the Castle Hall , Durham , at 12 o ' clock .

The brethren will attend divine service in the Cathedral at one o ' clock , and the luncheon will be held in the Castle Hall at half-past three o'clock . In our report of the Mark Benevolent Festival last week we omitted to notice an important and agreeable feature of the proceedings , viz ., the musical entertainment

at the banquet . Under the able leadership of Bro . Professor E . M . Lott , P . G . Org ., a small but select party , consisting of the Misses Sargent and Kerton , and Bros . Franklin Clive , and Arthur Thompson , rendered the songs , & c . allotted to them in the programme in a manner which called forth repeated manifestations of pleasure and more than usual attention from the brethren and ladies

M . P ., who is a Past Master of the company , the next Livery dinner of the Spectacle Makers' Company will be held at the Mansion House , on Wednesday , the 14 th October . The Baroness and Bro . Burdett-Coutts , and Bro . Coleridge Kennard , M . P ., were among those present at the distribution of prizes on Saturday afternoon last , by

the Duke of Edinburgh , to the successful pupils of the Royal Naval School , Greenwich . About 200 guineas have already been subscribed towards the testimonial which the tenants and friends of Bro . Sheriff-elect Clarke have it in contemplation to present to him on the occasion of his being elected one of the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex .

Major-General Sir Redvers-Buller , just returned from the Soudan , accompanied by Lady Buller , arrived at Crediton , on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., and experienced a hearty welcome home from the local authorities , the townspeople , and his tenantry . Alderman Evans and Thomas Clarke , who are both members of the company , on their election as Sheriffs of London and Middlesex , and also to take part in the Sheriffs' inaugural ceremony , on the 2 Sth of September , if desired . The testimonial which we stated a short time since was being raised for the purpose of doing honour to a most distinguished Mason , Bro . G . Parker Brockbank , G . Std . Br ., of Bolton , Lancashire , was presented to that worthy brother at Masons' Hall , Cooper-street , Manchester , on Friday , the 24 th ult . A pleasant and influential company was gathered together for the occasion , and as is

customary and wise on these occasions , a dinner formed part of the proceedings . Everything passed off most successfully . A report will be found in another page . 3 , 000 , 000 tins of CHAMPION'S MUSTARD were sold In London alone during the past year . Why was this so ? Becaus the public , having satisfied themselves it was the best and cheapest gave it a preference over all others , —ADVT .

Sir Thomas and Lady Brassey gave a garden party at Normanhurst Court , Battle , on Saturday last , Bro . H . A . Brassey being among those present . At the Court of Aldermen on Thursday , the

23 rd ult ., the Sheriffs-elect , Bros . Alderman Evans and T . Clarke attended and entered into the usual bond for the discharge of their duties . Bro . Sir Edward Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., has issued an address to the electors of Hythe announcing that

it is again his intention to solicit their suffrages at the next Parliamentary election . The Prince and Princess of Wales left Marlborough House for Goodwood on Monday on a visit to the Duke and Duchess of Richmond and Gordon , this being the Goodwood race week .

The will and two codicils of the late Marquis of Londonderry , K . P ., who died 5 th November , 1 S 84 , has just been proved by the executors , the gross personalty being sworn at about £ 382 , 950 . We regret to find that by an oversight we omitted from the list of those present at the Festival of the Mark Benevolent Fund last week the names of Bro . C . H , and Mrs . Driver and Bro . R . Berridge .

P ., were present at the reception held on Wednesday , the 22 nd inst ., by the Austro-Hungarian Ambassador and the Countess Karolyi . Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon , Lord Lieutenant of Ireland , on Monday last , received an address from the Standing committee of the Church of Ireland , Bro . Lord

her SSth birthday . Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., P . G . M . Derbyshire , arrived at Eastbourne on Sunday morning last , and proceeded to Lady Fanny Howard ' s residence , Compton-place , where the Duke of Devonshire and other members of the family are staying . The marquis and duke have since returned to London .

Major Joseph , Master of the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers' Company , being among the guests , and Mrs . Bancroft replying very eloquently to the toast of "The Ladies . "

The Prince and Princess of Wales , with their sons and daughters , left Osborne for London on Friday , the 24 th instant . En route their Royal Highnesses inspected in Portsmouth Dockyard the Light Camel Corps , just returned from the Soudan . In the evening there was a ball at Marlborough House in honour of the Princess Beatrice ' s wedding .

Bro . W . A . Scurrah was installed W . M . of the Henry Levander Lodge on Saturday last by Bro . H . Lovegrove . A very handsome specially designed jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) was presented to Bro . Lovegrove , and unusually tasteful menu cards were used on the occasion . We hope to give a report of the proceedings next week .

Bro . the Lord Mayor , M . P ., will preside at the distribution , by H . R . H . Princess Christian , of medallions and certificates to the successful members of the City and Port of London District of the St . John Ambulance Association . Bro . the Duke of Connaught is President of the District , and the ceremony is fixed for Saturday , the 15 th inst ., in the Guildhall .

The Court of the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers' Company intend entertaining at dinner at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , on Wednesday , the 12 th inst ., the Sheriffs-elect , Bros . Alderman Evans and T . Clarke , who are both members of the Court of Assistants . The dinner will be given by members , personally , and not out of the funds of the Company .

Bro . the Earl of Lathom , the Deputy Grand Master of England , has fixed Friday , the 21 st inst ., for the installation of Sir Hedworth Williamson as Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Durham , in the place of the late Marquess of Londonderry . Bro . W . A . Scurrah was installed W . M . of the Henry Levander Lodge on Saturday last by Bro . H . Lovegrove . A very handsome specially designed jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) was presented to Bro . Lovegrove , and unusually tasteful menu cards were used on the occasion . We hope to give a report of the proceedings next week .

Bro . the Lord Mayor , M . P ., will preside at the distribution , by H . R . H . Princess Christian , of medallions and certificates to the successful members of the City and Port of London District of the St . John Ambulance Association . Bro . the Duke of Connaught is President of the District , and the ceremony is fixed for Saturday , the 15 th inst ., in the Guildhall .

The Court of the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers' Company intend entertaining at dinner at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , on Wednesday , the 12 th inst ., the Sheriffs-elect , Bros . Alderman Evans and T . Clarke , who are both members of the Court of Assistants . The dinner will be given by members , personally , and not out of the funds of the Company .
