PROVINCIAL GRAND CHAPTER OF SURREY .
INSTALLATION OF COL . G . NOEL MONEY , C . B ., AS GRAND SUPERINTENDENT .
A meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter of Surrey was held at the Public Hall , Croydon , on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., when Col . G . Noel Money , C . B ., was installed as Grand Superintendent with the customary formalities by Comp . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , G . S . E ., in the unavoidable absence of the Earl of Lathom , Pro First Grand Principal . Provincial Grand Chapter was opened by Comp . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , Comp . F . West , as Prov . G . H ., supported by numerous Grand Officers and other distinguished
companions . The GRAND SCRIBE E ., addressing the companions , said : We are met here to-day on a very pleasing occasion , but with that pleasure there is mingled with our feelings one of regret . You all know that for the last 18 years this province of Royal Arch Masonry has been most efficiently presided over by our late lamented Comp . General Studholme Brownrigg . He
has been called to the Grand Chapter above , and the First Grand Principal has been pleased to appoint in his place a very distinguished , energetic , and zealous companion in the person of our Comp . Colonel Gerard Noel Money , C . B . We are here to-day to carry out the command of H . R . H . the First Grand Principal and install Colonel Money into his high office . I may mention that the illustrious Pro First Grand Principal of the Order—the
Earl of Lathom—had fully intended to perform this ceremony to-day , as I hope he will be able to do the interesting Craft ceremony , but I am sorry to say that from various official engagements he is unable to be present so early , and he has therefore deputed my unworthy self to represent him . It is an honour and pleasure to install a companion who is an old personal friend ,
and for whom I have so sincere a respect . I am sure the selection of the First Grand Principal is one which will be very popular indeed in the province , and I am confident Colonel Money is a companion who will , as time rolls on , prove himself a most efficient successor to your late lamented chief . We will commence the proceedings by reading the minutes , which I will ask the Prov . Grand Scribe E . to do .
The minutes were read and confirmed , and the roll of chapters in the province was called , and it was found all were well represented . Comp . FRANK RICHARDSON , acting D . C , announced that the Grand Superintendent designate awaited without the chapter room , and the Grand Scribe E . directed the acting D . C . to obtain his patent of office .
1 he patent was read by the P . G . S . E ., and a deputation having escorted the Grand Superintendent designate into the room , he was addressed by the G . S . E . as follows : Owing to the lamented death of General Studholme Brownrigg , a vacancy has occurred in rulers of Royal Arch Masonry in the Province of Surrey , and H . R . H . the M . E . First Grand Principal , after due deliberation , has been pleased to select you to fill that high and honourable
position . The services you have already rendered in various parts of the world , especially in India , have marked you out as being a most suitable successor , and many of us know , as I personally know , that for many years in that distant country you have done very valuable duty and service in every Degree of Freemasonry . Since your return to England your Masonic zeal has not relaxed , but you have performed various important duties , and therefore I honestly believe , and I believe I am
supported in that by the companions present , that no better selection could have been made by the First Grand Principal . I offer you my sincere congratulations on your appointment , and feel confident you will with that energy for which you are distinguished , zealously and faithfully perform the duties to which you have been called . I now demand of you in the presence of the companions , whether you are ready efficiently and zealousl y to discharge , to the best of your ability , the important duties of Grand Superintendent of the Province of Surrey .
Comp . Col . G . N . MONEY , C . B ., having signified assent , prayer was offered , and he was then obligated , invested with the regalia of Grand Superintendent , and duly inducted into the chair . The Grand Superintendent appointed Comp . Frederick West , Prov . G . H ., and Comp . Chas . J . Tyler , Prov . G . J ., and they were obligated and
invested . The Principals were proclaimed and saluted , after which , on the nomination of Comp . F . WEST , Prov . G . H ., Comp . Geo . Price was re-elected Prov . Grand Treasurer . Ihe following Prov . Grand Officers were appointed and invested :
