PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF ISLE OF MAN .

INSTALLATION OF LORD HENNIKER AS PROV . G . M

After a long interval , the Freemasons of the Isle of Man were called together some time since for the purpose of witnessing the installation of Lord Henniker as Provincial Grand Master . Freemasons in isolated places , such as the " Little Man Island , " and , say , London , are called upon by the authorities ( headed by his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales ) to band themselves together and to constitute themselves a province . This order

was dutifully obeyed by our Insular brethren in the succession to the late Bro . Sir John Goldie Taubman , Speaker of the House of Keys , who was appointed the first , R . W . Grand Master of the province in 1886 . Since his death , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master has been in charge , but last year , the Most Worshipful Grand Master , the Prince of Wales , selected for

office Lord Henniker , Lieut .-Governor of the Isle Man , who was already Prov . G . M . of Suffolk . The appointment was hailed with satisfaction , and the much-delayed ceremony of his installation ( caused solely by illness and the calls of duty ) took place at the Masonic Hall , Douglas , late in the month of June .

The function was well attended , enthusiastic , and thorough . A distinguished Mason , Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn ( Past Grand Chaplain , Deputy Grand Master of Suffolk , and one of the Queen ' s private chaplains ) , was the Installing Master , appointed by the Prince of Wales , and he performed the elaborate ceremony with grace and precision , and , at the same

time , the brethren lost none of the beauty of the ritual . Bro . J . A . Brown , Dep . P . G . The DEP . PROV . GRAND MASTER , after the opening ceremony , said : We have for a long time been practically without a Masonic head , but we have met to-day to join in the installation of a distinguished brother , in the person of Bro . Lord Henniker , who will take that position . I am sure we all wish him and the province prosperity , and trust he will live long , and continue to be an ornament to the Order . ( Applause ) . I will now ask the Installing Master , Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martvn , to take the chair .

The Installing Master , who is Dep . P . G . Master of Suffolk , of which province Lord Henniker is Prov . G . Master , then took the chair , and was formally saluted by the lodge .
