13 ; Col . C . Vansittart , Capt . G . Hearn , and W . C Haley , of 17 S 9 ; F . Barry , 13 j G . Bashford , 515 ; and R . Smith , 1000 . The chapter having been opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed , [ the ballot vvas taken for Comp . B . de B . Lopez , 6 , P . M . 913 , and proved unanimous . The ballot vvas then taken for Bro . H . G . Baker , 913 , and
proving unanimous , that brother vvas duly exalted to the Supreme Degree . The chapter was then closed , and the companions sat down to a pleasantly served supper . The usual loyal and Grand Chapter toasts were honoured , and after thatof " Earl Amherst , Grand Supt . of Kent , " had been received , as it always is , not only in this chapter
but in every lodge and chapter in the province over svhich his lordship so genially presides , the cheering weed vvas lit , and harmony , vocal and instrumental , filled up the pauses between some eloquent speeches . Comp . Mason responded for a hearty reception of the toast of " Comp . Eastes , G . H ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He said he felt it a
great honour to serve as G . P . S ., to which high office he had been promoted that year , under such a splendid Mason as their Grand Superintendent . He advocated a constant attendance at Grand Lodge and Chapter meetings , because there and then they had the opportunity of seeing the excellent working of the Grand Officers , and he believed it vvas to the fact of the constant attendance of the officers of
the lodge and chapter that the work went on so correctl y and smoothly in them both . The I . P . Z ., in proposing the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " said that from the long experience he had had of Comp . Palmer , both in the lodge and chapter , he vvas convinced that he svould carry out his duty to their entire satisfaction . They sasv hosv hard and well he had worked that night , and
they might be sure that in the future nothing would be wanting to secure the happiness of the members and the prosperity of the chapter . The M . E . Z ., in response , said he felt unsvorthy of the kind remarks of Comp . Roberts , because he felt that he ought to have done the svork better . He had , hosvever , svorked hard to make himself perfect , but it svas a difficult thing in one getting into years to learn and commit to
memory such an elaborate and lengthy ritual as that of the Royal Arch . He knesv the ritual as well as possible at home , but his memory had rather failed him that night . It should , hosvever , be his endeavour to do the svork in a proper manner , and so keep up the reputation of the chapter for good working .
Comp . Roberts , in responding for " The Second Principal , " said he vvas pleased that the M . E . Z . svas satisfied with the manner in svhich he had carried out his portion of the ceremony . Yet he felt sure that Comp . Clarke , their H ., svould exceed him svhen he attended and filled the chair to svhich he had been exalted .
Comp . Lasvson , in responding for " The i hird Principal , " said he also was pleased if any effort he had made in discharging his duties as J . had met svith their approbation . He felt that he vvas placed in rather an awkward position svith respect to his chapter duties . On the previous Thursday he had to work the duties of H . at another chapter , and next January svould have to take over those of Z .: and
he had found that it was one thing to learn the ritual , but quite another to svork it even to one ' s own satisfaction . He svould strongly urge that nothing should be done to divert one ' s attention while delivering the lectures , because if the thread vvas once broken it vvas difficult to unite the ends without some halt or falter that entirely destroyed both the character and impression of the ritual , especially on the
Royal Arch.
mind of the exaltee . Personally , as long as he vvas a member of it he should endeavour to discharge his duties in the chapter , whatever they might be , to their satisfaction . Comp . Edmonds , in responding for "The P . Z . ' s , " regretted that illness had prevented him attending the chapter so often as he should have liked to . Nothing inimical to the P . Z . 's or the chapter had been the cause , simply illness
and want of time , but he trusted nosv that he had recovered to be svith them oftener . Comp . Cook also responded . Comp . Baker responded for " The Exaltee , " and Comp . Clapham for " The Officers , " and then the Janitor ' s toast concluded the proceedings . Comp . Tyler presided at the piano , and Comp . Horton gave some selections on the violin in a most delightful manner .

PLUMSTEAD . Pattison Chapter ( No . 913 ) . —The first meeting of the above chapter since Comp . Palmer was installed M . E . Z . in July last , took place on Thursday , the 16 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Mount Pleasant , and svas a very pleasant one . The chapter vvas opened by the M . E . Z .,
assisted by the follosving companions of the chapter and visitors : Comps . J . H . Roberts , I . P . Z ., acting H . ; C H . Lasvson , J . ; C . Coupland , P . Z ., P . P . G . J . ; E . 13 ; Col .
