Z . proposed the toast of " The Exaltee , " remarking that it gave him and the companions generally very great pleasure to have Comp . Curry amongst them , especially so when they remembered that he had been

initiated into Freemasonry by such a distinguished Mason as Bro . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I . Comp . Curry suitably replied , and " The Visitor , Comp . Hildreth " ( from America ) , next came in for a hearty reception . Comp . Hildreth thanked the chapter for its cordial welcome , and gave an interesting account of Royal Arch

Freemasonry in America . This was one of the most enjoyable evenings ever spent by the Lewis Chapter . The toasts were interspersed with very good son *> s by Comps . Crunden , Gushing , Thompson , and Powell , and the quaint recitations and experiences in different parts of the world of Comp . Crunden were so much appreciated , that he was called upon again and

The companions , to the number of over 40 , adjourned to

the refectory , where they sat down to an excellent supper provided by Comp . Bosworthick . Under the genial presidency of Comp . Burns , a most pleasant evening was spent . The success was in a great measure due to Comp . G . Sylvester , of Piince Saxe-Weimar Chapter , who sang magnificently , and ably accompanied on the pianoforte . Comps . Fred . Orchard and J . Leonard gave some capital songs .

installation ceremony ; also by Bro . S . S . Partridge , who attributed much of the success of the work in Mark Masonry to the fact that Grand Mark Lodge was thoroughly representative . Bro . J . T . Thorpe also responded , and remarked that Grand Mark Lodge always noted , and if after , perhaps , a long time , always rewarded and valued special service and

zeal in the work of the Degree . The Worshipful Master then gave "The Prov . G . M ., Bro . Kelly , the D . P . G . M ., and Officers of Prov . Grand Mark Lodge , " to which the D . P . G . Coltman made a graceful reply , and duly acknowledged the honour that evening conferred on him . The toasts of " The Past Masters of the Lodge , " "The Visitors and Sister Mark Lodges , " and the Tyler's toast , brought a very enjoyable occasion to a fitting close .. lt may be remarked that the Board of Installed Masters numbered 14 , a number hitherto unsurpassed in the province .

minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Several letters of apology were read from sir knights who were unable to attend . Business of ihe encampment over , the alms collected , amounting to nearly one guinea , it was closed . A priory of the Knights of Malta was opened by Sir Knight T . C . Thorburn , P . G . S . Sir Knight Robert W . Bourne was presented to Sir Knight Thomas C . Thorburn , who installed him into the office of Prior , and he was saluted with the usual honours . Sir Knight L . S . Winsloe , being unanimously elected , was received into the Order , and the ceremony was most effectively rendered by the Prior , Sir Knight Robert W . Bourne , assisted by his officers . Business of the priory over , it was closed .

1 he banquet , which was all that could be desired , was held at the Adelphi Hotel , under the presidency of the Prior , Sir Knight R . W . Bourne , having on his right Sir Knights Charles James Banister , Prov . Prior of Northumberland , Durham , and Berwick-on-Tweed ; E . Pierpoint , Napier , Spalding , and Cobham ; and on his left Sir Knights S . G . Sinclair , 1 * . C . Thorbourn , VV . Tyrer , B . W . Rowson

, G . H . Brown , and W . F . Richardson . Sir Knight Littledale occupied the vice-chair . After grace was said by the Prelate , the E . G ., Sir Knight Bourne , proposed in suitable terms "The Health of her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen" and "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . E . and S . G . Master , and the rest of the Royal Family . "

Both toasts were received most cordially . The E . G ., in most flattering terms , proposed "The Health of their old and valued Friend , V . E . Sir Knight C . J . Banister , P . G . Captain of England , Prov . Prior of Northumberland , Durham , and Benvick-on-Tweed , " which was received most cordially . Sir Knight Charles James Banister responded most

feelingly , thanking the E . C . for the kind way he had spoken of him , and the great kindness he -always received when able to be with them ; and , before resuming his seat , proposed " The Health of the E . C , " who had so ably gone through the ceremony ; indeed , whatever he took in hand in the various Degrees of Masonry were always most impressively rendered .

The toast was received in true Knight 'Templar fashion , and , on rising to return thanks , the E . C . was received in true Lancashire style , and responded in an excellent Masonic speech . Other toasts followed , which were dul y responded to by Sir Knights Littledale , Napier , Pierpoint , and others , and the last toast brought a mast agreeable and instructive evening to its close .

Bro . Sir Matthew VVhite Ridley , Birt ., M . P ., presided on Monday at a further meeting of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Civil Sjrvice . The Deputy Chairman and Surveyor-General of Customs were recalled , and again examined as to the desirability of amalgamating the Inland Revenue and Customs establishments .

Captain of England , Prov . Prior of Northumberland , Durham , and Benvick-on-Tweed , " which was received most cordially . Sir Knight Charles James Banister responded most

feelingly , thanking the E . C . for the kind way he had spoken of him , and the great kindness he -always received when able to be with them ; and , before resuming his seat , proposed " The Health of the E . C , " who had so ably gone through the ceremony ; indeed , whatever he took in hand in the various Degrees of Masonry were always most impressively rendered .

The toast was received in true Knight 'Templar fashion , and , on rising to return thanks , the E . C . was received in true Lancashire style , and responded in an excellent Masonic speech . Other toasts followed , which were dul y responded to by Sir Knights Littledale , Napier , Pierpoint , and others , and the last toast brought a mast agreeable and instructive evening to its close .

Bro . Sir Matthew VVhite Ridley , Birt ., M . P ., presided on Monday at a further meeting of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Civil Sjrvice . The Deputy Chairman and Surveyor-General of Customs were recalled , and again examined as to the desirability of amalgamating the Inland Revenue and Customs establishments .
