performed his duties in a most capable and perfect manner , and in both those companions the M . E . Z . had been most ably assisted during the past year . In reply , Comp . G . H . Lewis , thanked the companions from the bottom of his heart as the M . E . Z . elect of the chapter . Although a P . Z . in a chapter in the north of London , yet to be the M . E . Z . of his mother chapter was his great ambition . He hoped the prestige of the chapter would not suffer in his hands , for his whole desire

would be to continue it in the same efficient manner , and he looked forward with great pleasure , with the able assistance of his officers , to the chapter maintaining the same exalted position among the chapters in South London . He knew he had the invaluable assistance of the Past Principals in the chapter should he require it , and _ whose ¦ whole object had been to conduct the ceremonies with ability , and fully maintain that love and harmony which existed in the chapter . .

Comp . W . E . Jeffery also very ably replied , and promised his utmost to maintain the honour of his mother chapter . The toast of "The Past Principals" was most ably presented by the M . E . Z ., and effectively responded to by Comps . Loader and Isaac Dunn . Co . np . Derham also replied , and remarked that he was exalted the same night as the M . E . Z . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of " The Treasurer and S . E ., " both of whom were very capable and efficient officers , and had done much for the chapter .

In reply , Comp . J . Loader , P . Z ., Treas ., said he was proud of the position . His very life was bound up with the chapter , and he would do his utmost for its benefit . Comp . G . Thompson , S . E ., also most suitably replied . The toast of " The Officers " was duly honoured , and the Janitor ' s toast closed a

( Town Clerk and Diocesan Registrar ) , kindly consented to represent the lodge as Steward at the coming Festival .

During the dinner a string band ( under the direction of Mr . VV . P . McElwee , bandmaster of the Royal Anglesey Engineers ) played a selection of music . The newly-installed Master is the present Organist of Bangor Cathedral and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature .

A largely-attended meeting was held at the Assembly Rooms , Surbiton , on the 24 th ult ., after the proceedings of the Prov . Grand Lodge . The proceedings were similar to the earlier meeting , Comp . Colonel J . Davis being installed as Grand Superintendent , and Comp . F . West as Prov . G . H . Comp . C . T . Tyler was appointed and invested as Prov . G . S . E . The roll of chapters was called , and Provincial Grand Chapter was closed .

London County Council Lodge , No . 2603 . A _ regular meeting of this lodge—the membership of which is thoroughly repte sentative of the members and officers of the Council—was held at th Hotel Cecil oa the 21 st ult . There was a good attendance , the chair being occupied by Bro . Edward White , W . M ., who rendered such invaluable services in the initial stages of the lodge in a Secretarial capacity . The other members present included Bros . H . Percy Harris , S . W . ; T . H . VV . Idris , J . W . ; Goddard Clarke , Sec . ; A . Spencer , J . D . ; T . A .

M ., expressing the sympathy of the brethren in his illness—occasioned by an unfortunate accident—and their hopes for his speedy recovery . Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet .

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts f illowed , musical items , which were thoroughly enjoyed , being contributed by Bros . Herbert TownsenJ and Robert Radford and Mis 3 Florence Venning . In proposing "The Grand Officers , " the W . M . alluded to the fact that their lodge was always fortunate in having Grand Officers present , and in possessing amongst ics Past Masters several distinguished members of that body . Thev had special

gratification that evening in welcoming Bro . Henry Clarke , the present A . G . D . C , who had won distinction in many spheres . As a member of the L . C . C , Bro . Clarke was in the fortunate position of enjoying the goodwill of all the members . In the City Corporation they knew his munificence , and the regret of that body when he found it necessary t >\ resign . It reflected the greatest credit upon those who selected Bro . Clarke for Grann Office from amongst the members of the London County Council Lodge . ,

Bro . H . Clarke , A . G . D . C , said that speaking for the Grand Ofiicers , they deserved the encomiums passed upon their work . Freemasonry was a very large community spread all over the Empire , and naturally in that community there must be diversity ot opinion with regard to certain details and leading to possible disputes . All theie thirnjs came before Grand Lodge and were settled with the greatest amount of skill and ability , and they never heard in public any scandal arising from Freemasonry . A largely-attended meeting was held at the Assembly Rooms , Surbiton , on the 24 th ult ., after the proceedings of the Prov . Grand Lodge . The proceedings were similar to the earlier meeting , Comp . Colonel J . Davis being installed as Grand Superintendent , and Comp . F . West as Prov . G . H . Comp . C . T . Tyler was appointed and invested as Prov . G . S . E . The roll of chapters was called , and Provincial Grand Chapter was closed .

London County Council Lodge , No . 2603 . A _ regular meeting of this lodge—the membership of which is thoroughly repte sentative of the members and officers of the Council—was held at th Hotel Cecil oa the 21 st ult . There was a good attendance , the chair being occupied by Bro . Edward White , W . M ., who rendered such invaluable services in the initial stages of the lodge in a Secretarial capacity . M ., expressing the sympathy of the brethren in his illness—occasioned by an unfortunate accident—and their hopes for his speedy recovery . Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet .

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts f illowed , musical items , which were thoroughly enjoyed , being contributed by Bros . Herbert TownsenJ and Robert Radford and Mis 3 Florence Venning . In proposing "The Grand Officers , " the W . M . alluded to the fact that their lodge was always fortunate in having Grand Officers present , and in possessing amongst ics Past Masters several distinguished members of that body . Thev had special

gratification that evening in welcoming Bro . Henry Clarke , the present A . G . D . C , who had won distinction in many spheres . As a member of the L . C . C , Bro . Clarke was in the fortunate position of enjoying the goodwill of all the members . In the City Corporation they knew his munificence , and the regret of that body when he found it necessary t >\ resign . It reflected the greatest credit upon those who selected Bro . Clarke for Grann Office from amongst the members of the London County Council Lodge . ,

Bro . H . Clarke , A . G . D . C , said that speaking for the Grand Ofiicers , they deserved the encomiums passed upon their work . Freemasonry was a very large community spread all over the Empire , and naturally in that community there must be diversity ot opinion with regard to certain details and leading to possible disputes . All theie thirnjs came before Grand Lodge and were settled with the greatest amount of skill and ability , and they never heard in public any scandal arising from Freemasonry .
