successful and prosperous year of office by a careful rendition of the customary addresses to the W . M ., Wardens , and members . On the motion of the I . P . M . a sum of 20 guineas was voted from the lodge funds to be placed on Bro . Humfress' list for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Other business was transacted , and the lodge was closed .
After banquet , the customary toast list received due notice . Bro . C . A . Cottebrune , P . G . P ., in response to " The Grand Officers , " thanked the W . M . for coupling his name with the toast . lt was not the first time he had had that honour , and he could scarcely find new words in which to express his deep feelings of thanks , lt afforded hi m great

Very few of the old members were in existence , but he had on his right one who was initiated in the Westbourne Lodge in 1 S 5 Sduring the first year of its existence—Bro . George Everett who left them some years ago , but who had come amongst them again that evening . They were all pleased to see Bro .
Everett pay a visit to his old lodge , especially as there was another circumstance connected with him that might not be known to all present—that he was a candidate for election as Grand Treasurer . Bro . Everett was deserving of the support not only of that lodge , but of others , in consequence of the good work he had done ; but they in that lodge should especially support him , as he was one of their
first initiates , and , therefore , one of their oldest children . In conclusion , he ( Bro . Cottebrune ) again thanked them , and assured them that as long as he lived , and had health and strength , he should remain a member of the Westbourne Lodge . Bro . C . J . Biorn , I . P . M ., said it had fallen to his lot for the first time to propose " The Health of the W . Master . " As the brethren were aware he was not in the habit of
making long speeches , and he would not , therefore , detain them by extolling the virtues of Bro . Drew , their newly-installed W . M ., he would , however , say that in Bro . Drew they had agood W . M . who would be a credit to the Craft and their lodge , for he was a worthy Mason . He trusted the W . M . would have plenty of work , when he would afford the members an opportunity of witnessing his good working . He would ask the brethren to drink to the health of their
W . M . Bro . Drew , W . M ., said he was very grateful for the kind way in which the I . P . M . had proposed the toast , and the brethren had received it . He could only say that he would do his best to follow in the footsteps of the I . P . M . during his year , and if he retired at the end of that period in the same creditable way , he should know he had given
satisfaction to the lodge . He should endeavour to carry out his work as well as the I . P . M . had done , and hoped he should satisfy the members . The W . M . then gave " The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master . " He said it needed no words from him to speak of the I . P . M ., for the brethren had seen his working and the splendid manner in which he had carried out his duties . During his year , Bro . Biorn , I . P . M ., had
most ably done his work , and had successfully terminated his period of office by impressively performing the installation ceremony . It was now his pleasu-e to invest Bro . Biorn , I . P . M ., with a P . M . 's jewel , presented by the lodge , and he would say that no brother had ever deserved a jewel more than their I . P . M . that evening , for his work had always been of the best , and he had endeared himself to all the members . The brethren would heartily join in wishing Bro . Biorn long life , health , and prosperity .
Bro . C . J . Biorn , P . M ., heartily thanked the W . M . and brethren for the manner in which his health had been proposed and received . He could assure them that when he joined Masonry he had no idea of ever wearing a P . M . ' s jewel ; but , being once placed in office , he was not satisfied until he had reached the chair , and although his working was probably not of the best , yet it was work of the heart .
He had always done the best he could to carry out the affairs of the lodge in a satisfactory manner . He was under the disadvantage of following one of the best W . M . 's the lodge had ever known—Bro . Humfress , P . M . —who had a most successful year with numerous initiates , and who took up a large sum for the Charities . He endeavoured to follow in Bro . Humfress' footsteps , having nine
initiates , and collecting So guineas for the R . M . Benevolent Institution . He had to the best of his ability endeavoured to do his duty , and he hoped he had pleased them , for then he should be satisfied . He again thanked them for the warmth with which his health had been given , and also for the handsome jewel presented to him . " The Visitors " was next given in cordial terms by the
W . M ., who offered the visiting brethren a hearty welcome , coupling with the toast the names of Bros . ] . J . Thomas ; Tisley , P . G . Stwd . ; Geo . Everett , P . M . 177 ' ; VV . Thomas , and Trehearne . Bro . J . J . Thomas , W . M . 753 , returned thanks for the hearty reception accorded the visitors by this lodge , and expressed his sincere regret at the indisposition of Bro .
Humfress , P . M . Bro . George Everett , P . M . 177 , also replied . He said he was indebted to the father of the lodge—Bro . Cottebrune—for a very pleasant and enjoyable evening . Masonry had many agreeable surroundings , but none of a more pleasurable nature than visiting other lodges , for it enabled brethren to renew old friendships , revive old
associations , and stimulate that brotherly love and good fellowship of which they were so proud . He felt this more especially that evening , lor his visit had enabled him to renew his acquaintance with his mother lodge . On the 19 th August , 30 years ago , a guileless youth mi ^ ht have been seen wending his way to the Manor House at Padn ' ng ton , which place he appioached with fear and trembling . He was that youth ,
and his object was to be initiated into 1 ' ieemasonry in this lodge in the first year of its existence . His fear and trembling were soon dispelled , and he was initiated , his good friend , Bro . Cottebrune , then occupying the S . W . 's chair . Mighty changes had taken place since then . The lodge was then No . 1035 , afterwards altered to its present number—733 , and since its consecration no less than 1600
other lodges had been founded . He was glad to find that the Westbourne Lodge had held its own , for when he saw the statement of accounts , and what a splendid balance there was to the credit of the lodge fund , and what a grand Benevolent Fund there was in connection with it , he was proud that he could call this lodge his mother lodge . The mother had a right to ask what had her truai t son betn doing in his absence ? He had passed the chair in four lodges and three chapters , and was

a founder of several others , and had endeavoured to make himself useful in the cause of Charity . In consequence of those humble services certain brethren suggested the idea that he should become for a candidate for a great office , and one of dignity and honour—the Grand Treasurership —what he looked upon as the blue riband of Freemasonry . Those few brethren had increased , and he was pleased to
say that about 1200 had promised to support him . He knew they would pardon him on the present occasion , as he was speaking of a matter dear to his heart , and in his mother lodge he ventured to hope that the members , those who were able to vote , would think him deserving of the high honour he sought . He had endeavoured to fight his election in a Masonic spirit and had not said one word in
disparagement of his opponent . He thanked the brethren for their attention , and was sure the visitors would endorse his remark that they had been gratified with the hospitality shown them . Bros . Tisley , P . G . Stwd ., W . Thomas , and Trehearne also replied . "The P . M . 's" having been given and responded to , "The Treasurer and Secretary" was introduced , and
appropriately replied to by Bros . Welford , P . M ., Ireas ., and Walker , P . M ., Sec . "The Officers" was duly honoured , after which the Tyler ' s toast closed a successful and enjoyable evening . Under the direction of Bro . A . G . Pritchard an excellent programme of music was carried out , his assistants being Miss Emily Pritchard , Miss Lizzie Holmes , and Bros . C . A . White , C . Akerman , and Tom Maclagan .
