A warrant has been granted for a new lodge , to be held at the Wavertree Coffee House , Wavertree , near Liverpool , called the Wavertree Lodge , No . 2294 . Bro . George Reynolds , the vveil-known Secretary of the Anglo-American Lodge , No . 2191 , met with an unpleasant adventure on his return from the annual festival of the Emulation Lodge of Improvement on Friday night ,

the 22 nd ult . While pasting through Leicester-square he was set upon by three fellows , one of whom held him , while another made a snatch at his watch chain , which , after a struggle , he secured and made off with . In endeavouring to hold one of the thieves , Bro . Reynolds' hand was much hurt , and he is still suffering from it . The watch was left

in the pocket , but the chain , which was a valued gift from his sister , was wrenched off . In our account of the consecration of the Kingswood Lodge in our issue of the 16 th ult ., we put the first Director of Ceremonies as " Bro . W . Neil , " whereas it should have been Bro . H . T . Nell , P . M . 45 .

The various lodges in the Province of West Yorkshire , with few exceptions , have lately had their Grand Lodge Warrants photographed , and a copy of each has been deposited in the Central Library of the Province at Wakefield , of which Bro . W . Watson , P . M . Philanthropic , Leeds , is the honorary Curator and Librarian . Bro . Rev . C . J . Martyn , P . G . Chap ., is one of the appointed preachers at the Chapel Royal Savoy during March .

The St . John ' s ( Fisherrovv ) Lodge , which has lately been reconstituted after being out of existence for someyears , on the 21 st ult ., held an assembly in theTown Hall , Musselburgh . Over sixty couples took part in the dancing , the music for which was supplied by Mr . Archibald ' s band . The Hall was tastefully decorated .

The Freemasons of Longford , Ireland , are about to erect a Masonic Hall in their town as a memorial to their late Provincial Grand Master , Col . King Harman , M . P ., who was himself a Longford man , and one who took the greatest interest in Masonry in general . The Earl of Longford has granted a free site in the most picturesque part of the town , and Bro . J . O . Moynan , of Lodge No .

90 , Cavan , has offered his services free as Architect . The members of Longford Lodge alone have subscribed £ 23 6 , while Ballymahon Lodge , No . 308 , has subscribed £ 73 , and Grannud Lodge , 65 , £ 25 . An appeal is now made to the Masonic Body generally , and contributions will be thankfully received by Bro . Robt . Lyndon , Sec . and Treas ., Ulster Bank , Longford .

At a convocation of the members of the Fidelity Chapter , 230 , held at the Masonic Hall , Granby-street , Devonport , on Friday , the 22 nd ult ., the following officers were elected : Comps . VV . G . Swiss as Z . ; J . J . Meadley , H . ; F . Orchard , J . ; J . R . H . Harris , S . E . ; J . Whitford , Treas . ; J . Maddock , S . N . ; W . V . Harris , P . S . ; T . Lewis , ist A . S . ; VV . Routledge , 2 nd A . S . ; and G .

T . Veale , O . Bro . Col . H . S . Brownrigg , 32 , Past Deputy District Grand Master of the Punjab , Commandant of the Victorian Military Forces , has been elected VV . M . of the Meridian Lodge of St . John , No . 729 , Melbourne . Bro . Brownrigg will be installed on the fourth Tuesday in March . *

On Monday , the iSth ult ., Bro . C . Adams was installed VV . M . of the Corinthian Lodge , No . 120 S , Dover . An installation banquet was subsequently held , and was largely attended . We regret to hear that the condition of the King of the Netherlands has not been so satisfactory during the last few days , and that his Majesty has not gained strength , and takes but little nourishment .

Bro . Commander Cameron , R . N ., delivered an address before a crowded audience , in Exeter Hall , on Tuesday evening , on the subject of Slavery , the chair being occupied by his Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury . Bro . Rev . Thurston Rivington , Prov . G . Chap . Warwickshire , has by the death of his father , Mr . Wm . Rivington , Past Master Stationers' Company , come into a large fortune . His wife is a sister of the Bishop of Colombo .

A meeting of the United Service Chapter , No . 142 S , was held on Friday evening , the 15 th ult ., at the Masonic Club , Commercial-road , Landport , when Comp . J . G . Mason was installed as '/ .., Comp . J . Jackson acting as Installing Officer . After the installation , Comp . J . Lind , Treas ., was presented with a P . T . ' s jewel as a mark of the esteem in which he is held , and in recognition of his

valuable services . Comp . J . Jackson was also presented with a P . Z . ' s jewel for the admirable way in which he had carried out his duties during the past year . The business of the evening having been disposed of , the members and visitors sat down to a banquet . We are very pleased tc learn that our worthy friends in Little Britain , Messrs . J . Hollidayand Son , upholsterers '

trimming manufacturers , and general warehousemen , have received the valuable appointment of buyers , shippers , and sole agents to Messrs . Knight and Co ., art furnishers and royal decorators , Singapore , who have very extensive business in the far east , Mr . Knight , who has just been successful in floating the Pahang Exploration and Development Company ( Limited ) , is , we believe , an old friend of Bro . Holliday .

THE MAZARIN BIBLE . —The copy of this rare book , which was the first printed by Gutenberg with moveable metal types , and should be more properly called the Gutenberg Bible , which was in the library of Lord Hopetoun , now being sold by Messrs . Sotherby , Wilkinson , and Hodge , brought the large sum of ^ 2000 , bid by Mr . Quaritch . It was slightly injured in some ot the first leaves

of Vol . II ., but on the whole is a very fine copy . The most extraordinary thing is that its existence was quite unknown to its possessor , and it was only discovered when Mr . Hodge , jun ., was arranging for the removal and sale of the Library of Hopetoun House , near Edinburgh . As

everyone knows , it is a Latin Bible , printed by Gutenberg and Fust , about 1450-55 , at Munich . This is the fourth of these extremely rare and most interesting Bibles which have been sold within the last 15 years ; the Perkins copy in 1873 , for £ 2690 ; the Systar Park , Sir J . Thorold's , X 3900 , in 1884 ; the Lord Crawford's copy , £ 2650 ; and tills present one ;

The first supper of the Star Chapter of Instruction , No . 1275 , will be held early in April at its usual meeting place . A complimentary banquet to Bro . H . Lynn , S . W . 217 , is to be held at Anderton ' s Hotel this ( Friday ) evening . THE RECENT MASONIC BALL AT STONEHOUSE .

—The Committee responsible for the arrangements of the Masonic ball which was held at the St . George ' s Hall , on Valentine ' s eve , met on the 21 st ult . at the Devon and Cornwall Freemasons' Hall and Club , under the presidency of Bro . John Leonard , Chairman . The Treasurer , Bro . Frank R . Thomas , repoited that the ball was a remarkable success , far exceeding the most sanguine anticipations of

the Committee , and , after paying all expenses , there was over £ 20 in hand . On the proposition of Bro . F . Crouch , Sec , it was decided to make Mark Lodges Sincerity ( under whose banner the ball was held ) and Brunswick Life-Governors of the Mark Benevolent Fund . Votes of

thanks were passed to the Chairman , Secretary , and Treasurer , for their services , and also to the decorative Committee , the names of Bros . F . G . Taylor , Pengelly , and Davis being mentioned . It is probable that steamer and other excursions will be held in the summer in aid of the above Fund .

I he brethren of the Metham Lodge , No . 1205 , Stonehouse , have elected Bro . Archelaus Trout , as their W . M . for the ensuing year , and re-elected Bro . D . Cross , P . P . G . T ., as the Treasurer . . The members of the Masonic Lodges in Dunkeld —St . John ' s , No . 14 , and Operative , No . 152—held an assembly in the Royal Hotel on Friday evening , the 22 nd

ult . There were about 45 couples present . Dancing commenced at nine o'clock , the march being led off by Bro . M Laren and Mrs . Murray , and was carried on till four o ' clock on Saturday morning-. Bros . Clacey and Low efficiently discharged the duties of floor masters . At intervals the proceedings were agreeably varied with songs by members of the company . About midnight an excellent

supper was served by Bro . risher 111 the drawing-room . Before sepirating a hearty vote of thanks , called for by Bro . Swan , R . W . M ., was awarded to Hro . Fisner for the very efficient manner in which he had attended to the comfort of the company . THE PARIS EXHIBITION . —This year will witnes s a culinary invasion of France , which will , we trust , give

our lively neighbours satisfaction . Messrs . Spiers and Pond , who have been appointed sole caterers to the British Section of the Paris Exhibition , will establish thereagrill-room , where , from a silver grill , like that in Windsor Castle , they will supply the tender chop and the succulent steak , served in the English fashion . Now , a properly cooked chop and beef steak , not bieu saignant—as Mr . Sala ' s cadaverous

waitei insisted—but done to a turn , are precisely those delicacies which are not to be had even at the Cafe Anglais or Durand ' s . To the untravelled Frenchman who has not visited the shores of perfidious Albion they will come like a revelation , and appropriately accompanied by a draught from a bottle impressed with " the scarlet pyramid of Bass , " they will probably change his views as to the

cuisine of Great Britain . Messrs . Spiers and Pond will also have space for a large bar , like that at the Criterion , where light refreshments will be served—a part of the Exhibition which is sure to be popular with the young Frenchmen of the period . The firm has also had a portion of the French Section allotted to them , where they will establish a cafe , where " five o'clock tea" will be a speciality , and an American bar will appeal to Cosmopolitan tastes . THE MASONIC HALL . —The twenty-fifth annual meeting of the Birmingham Masonic Hall and Club Company ( Limited ) was held on the 21 st ult ., at the Hall . The gross rental for the year iSSS was £ 19 S 6 " , as compared with £ 2073 for 1 S 77 , the decrease being due to the fact that the two principal shops and one large vault were unlet during the year . The letting of the assembly room

was satisfactory . The directors propose to enlarge the refreshment room , so as to facilitate the holding of balls and conversaziones . The net profit of the year amounts to £ 49 1 , which , with a balance of £ 60 brought forward , makes a total of £ 551 . The report expresses regret that the proposed continuation of Ethel-street to John Brightstreet had not been carried out by the Corporation owing

to the expense of building the bridge across the station . The directors still maintain the justice of their demand for the improvement , on the faith of which being carried out the company took the land at so high a ground rent , and the ground landlord presented to the town a considerable quantity of land . The report was adopted ; a dividend of 2 per cent , was declared , £ 50 being carried to contingent fund , and / . ' ao written off for the furniture account ; and

the retiring directors—Messrs . James Cooper and W . H . Sproston—were re e'ected . Bro . J . R . Dore , P . M ., P . Z ., & c , of Huddersfield ( a great authority on Biblical Archaeology ) has written a second edition of his book on "Old Bibles , " the new publishers being Messrs . Eyre and Spottiswoode ( her Majesty's printers ) . The volume is tastefully got up and not only much larger than the first issue , but contains a mass of additional and invaluable information tnhp . found in

no other work extant . Not only does Bro . Dore give An Account of the Early Versions of the English Bible , " but the collations appended of all the rare , special , or important editions of the various versions , from Tyndale's of I 52 5 down to the " Authorized , " are of great utility and vame to students , dealers , and collectors . Typographical peculiarities of certain editions and test words and texts to

discover any version when title pages are unhappily missing ( an oft experience ) are provided in abundance , and so numerous are the particulars , based in most cases on actual examination of the originals , that his almost unrivalled experience is made the common property of his readers . Bro . Dore , in giving extracts from different versions , has frequently

selected those passages which appeal more especially to the Masonic Fraternity , without attracting attention . The same brother exhibited exactly 100 Bibles , New Testaments , & c , at a meeting of the York College of Rosicrucians on November , 17 th , 18 S 6 , the whole being carefully described in a neat catalogue . The present work cannot fail to prove a real boon to all Biblical Students .

As

everyone knows , it is a Latin Bible , printed by Gutenberg and Fust , about 1450-55 , at Munich . This is the fourth of these extremely rare and most interesting Bibles which have been sold within the last 15 years ; the Perkins copy in 1873 , for £ 2690 ; the Systar Park , Sir J . Thorold's , X 3900 , in 1884 ; the Lord Crawford's copy , £ 2650 ; and tills present one ;
