Lodge having been opened , Bro . J . A . Hughes , P . M ., P . G . Stwd ., installed Bro . O . T . Hodges , G . Stwd ., as W . M . for the ensuing year . The following officers were appointed : Bros . A . Adams , G . Stwd ., S . W . ; Harlaung , P . M ., J . W . ; R . Gresley Hall , P . G . Stwd ., Treas . ; F . West , Dep .-Prov . G . M . Surrey , Sec ; Brown , S . D . ; Fenn , J . D . ; Scott , Stwd . ; and Freeman , Tyler . The Junior Warden was unanimously elected to serve as Grand Steward , and a

Steward was also appointed to represent the lodge at the next Festival of the R . M . I . for Girls . Lodge was closed , and a banquet was afterwards held at Freemasons' Tavern . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were subsequently honoured . "The Grand Officers" was proposed by Bro . Gresley HallP . G . Stwd . and in response ,

, , Bro . j . Lewis Thomas , P . A . G . D . C , expressed the pleasure it afforded him to reply in a lodge as celebrated as that , -which dated from lime immemorial . That was not the first occasion he had enjoyed the honour of attending the installation meeting , but that was the first time he had returned thanks for their toast , because as a rule there were Grand Officers present of a higher grade than himself .

Bro . W . Stevenson Hoyte , Grand Org ., replied for the Present Grand Officers , and said they would yield to none in their desire to promote the best interests of Freemasonry . Bro . J . A . Hughes , P . G . Steward , said it had been his pleasing task to instal ! their W . M ., and in consequence the privilege had been conferred upon him of proposing the toast of his health . It had been a delight to him to come forward that evening , as they were in a difficulty

owing to the influenza . He knew what their W . M . had done in the past , and that he had given them satisfaction , and taking that into consideration , they might leave the honour of the lodge in his hands with perfect composure . He would simply hope the W . M . would have health and strength to carry out his duties as the members would have good reason to be proud of him . Bro . O . T . Hodges , G . Stwd ., W . M ., tendered his

sincere thanks for the hearty way in which the toast had been received . He could assure them it would be his endeavour to promote , in every way he possibly could , the interest of the lodge . Theirs was a very old lodge , and every brother had before him a fac simile ot certain byelaws agreed to on 25 th Nov ., 177 6 , which contained some very quaint expressions . He was sure that during his year he should have an ea » y task , for his officers , with few

exceptions , were Past Masters , and as the work depended chiefly upon them it was bound to be a success . He knew he should receive every assistance from the officers and other brethren . In giving "The Visitors , " the W . M . accorded them a hearty welcome , and said it was an invidious task to select those to respond amongst such an " abundance de riches . " Bro . J . D . Griffin , P . G . Stwd ., acknowledged the toast ,

and returned thanks for the hospitable manner in which they had been entertained . They esteemed it a high privilege to have been invited to that ancient and distinguished ledge , and there was a general consensus of opinion that if they were happy enough to receive an invite on some future occasion , they would be pleased to accept it . They desired to congratulate the VV . M . very much upon the high position conferred upon him in being

placed in the chair of that distinguished lodge . It was , perhaps , a coincidence that might not happen again , that there were Visitors from No . 1 Lodge , No . 2 and Nos . 3 and 5 . He regretted the absence ot Bro . F . West , whose guest he was , but had now so many hosts that he had not felt left out in the cold . Bros . Propert , G . Stwd ., and Riirg , P . G . Stwd ,, also replied .

Bro . A . Crusens , P . G . Stwd ., responded for "The Past Masters , " and said that when he was initiated in 1867 he little thought he should ever return thanks for this toast . He had seen a great many changes during those 2 S years and many new faces , and the lodge appeared to be going ahead . Bro . Gresley Hall , P . G . Stwd ., Treas ., replied for "The Treasurer and Secretary , " and Bros . Adams , P . G . Stwd .,

S . VV ., and Hughes , P . M ., P . G . Stwd ., for "The Officers , " the latter expressing the pleasure it had afforded him at short notice to install the W . M . The Tyler ' s toast then closed the proceedings . Mr . H . L . Smith directed the musical arrangements , and was assisted by Mr . Leslie Smith , Miss Hilda Glenn , Messrs . Seymour Matthew and P . Roberts , and the Amphion Glee Singers .

Constitutional Lodge ( No . 55 ) . —The annual installation meeting of this ancient lodge was held at the Cannon-street Hotel , E . G ., on the 21 st ult ., when Bro . N . and E . J . Elliott were raised to the Third Dsgree . Bro . Julius O . Jacobs having been presented as W . M . elect , was impressively installed by Bro . Nathan Robinson , and the following officers were invested : Bros . Louis Steil , S . VV . ; W . G . Langlands , j . W . ; R . P . Atkins , P . M ., Treas . ; W . T . Farthing , P . M ., Sec ; F . Richardson , S . D . ; T . B . Manning , J . D . j T . B . Roberts , I . G . ; L . A . Lewis , D . C . ; and H . Thomas , Tyler .

Letters of regret for inability to attend were announced from several Grand Officers and other brethren , and lodge was closed . After banquet , the customary toasts were honoured . Bro . Nathan Robinson , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the newly-installed W . M ., " said that those brethren who were fortunate enough to be present in the lodge to see the masterly manner in which the W . M .

invested his officers , must have been delighted with the excellent augury given for the next 12 months ' work . fhey only required to rally round the W . M . to see such a year of work as would vastly benefit the lodge . They knew by the conduct of Bro . Jacobs in the lodge , his marvellous " go-ahead" manner of conducting his duties in the lodge and at the banquet table , that they had installed one who was able and willing to discharge his duties . It appeared

to him ( the I . P . M ) that the old Constitutional Lodge was not going to be , but was absolutely resuscitated . The old lodge had taken a new lease of life , and it only required a few years of recent progress to raise it to the pinnacle it previously occupied . In bringing about this desirable result , they were quite safe in the hands of their newlyinstalled W . M . Bro . J . O . Jacobi , VV . M ., in response , said that words

failed him to thank them for the most elaborate and more than flattering manner in which Ins health had been proposed and received . He could not help looking at the programme for the evening , and seeing that the last item they had heard was "The Flight of Ages , " and so far as he proposed to deal with it in regard to that toast was that it

was something like eight-and-a-half years ago that he sat at the right ot the VV . M . as an initiate of that lodge . He recollected that the VV . M . of that year—Bro . E . Brownin welcoming him into the lodge , held forth bright promises of occupying the chair , and it was with great trepidation he looked forward to the time when he should be installed .

That trepidation had gone on increasing ever since . He felt it was a great honour to be elected vV . M ., and also a great responsibility , which he cheerfully undertook , and , although he should endeavour , to discharge that responsibility to the best of his ability , he feared he might not do so to their satisfaction . It seemed but yesterday that he occupied the initiate ' s chair . The chair of K . S . had been very well rilled in a double sense by the I . P . M . and his

predecessors . He had always looked forward to occupying the chair , and there was truth in his case in the hackneyed expression that it was the proudest moment of his life . It was the summit of a Mason ' s ambition to fill the chair in his mother lodge , and , having attained it , he should endeavour to hand it oyer to his successor in the same state as when he received it . The VV . M . then proposed "The I . P . M . and Installing

Master , " and said the excellence of the I . P . M . was not to be excelled by predecessors or successors . Bro . Nathan Robinson had infused enthusiasm into his work , and brought those of his family into the lodge who were eligible . His hearty good will had endeared him to them , and his name would be handed down as one of the Masters who had done a great deal for their lodge . They must all have been impressed with his work as Installing Master , and the

words used by him had gone deep into his ( the W . M . ' s ) heart as coming from one who knew what he was talking about . It had always been the custom in their lodge to recognise the services of those Masters who performed their duties efficiently , he ( the W . M . ) had , therefore , the utmost pleasure in pinning upon the breast of Bro . Nathan Robinson a Past Master's jewel as a token of respect . They one and all hoped he would have health and strength

to wear it many years in the Constitutional Lodge . Bro . Nathan Robinson , LP . M ., in reply , said he did not lay claim to be a greedy man , but there was one thing he was particularly greed y of , and that was the good opinion of his fellows . He did strive might and main to deserve that appreciation , and when that was bestowed upon hiin he felt particularly gratified . He must refer to one remark of the W . M . as to his trepidation . As a tolerably keen

observer , he had watched the VV . M ., both at his election and when installed , and did not see him move a muscle , but went Ihrough the action of taking the chair with the hardihood of an old campaigner . The past year had been to him ( the I . P . M . ) one ot unmixed pleasure . He was fond of work and enjoyed it , and was confident the W . M . would also enjoy his work . . He had only to thank the VV . M . heartily and sincerely for the kind manner in which he had proposed the toast and the brethren for the

considerable amount of " gusto with which they had received it . Bros . Telling , P . M . ; Lomas ; Horne , P . M . ; and others responded for " The Visitors , " and Bros . Cooper , P . M ., and Jubal Webb , P . M ., lor "The Past Masters . " Other toasts were given before the pleasant proceedings terminated . The musical arrangements , which were carried out in an excellent manner , were in the hands of Bros . F . Bevan , E . Dalzell , VV . H . Noel , and R . B . Hopkins .

Loyalty and Charity Lodge ( No . 1584 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on the 23 rd ult ., at the Star and Garter , Kew Bridge , which house has lately changed hands , and is undergoing quite a trans ' ormation under the managementof the new landlord , Bro . Purkiss . There were present Bros . E . Parke Seaton , W . M . ; Arthur R . Hodson , P . P . G . S . of W

M ., who gave the lecture on the tracing board in a very able manner . Bro . Hndson , P . M ., of the Bishon

Stortford Lodge , and P . P . G . S . of VV ., was then duly installed into the chair by Bro . Walford , who also gave the addresses , the whole of the , work being performed most carefully and correctly . After the appointment of officers , a most unusual presentation was made to the lodge , in the form of a set of full-sizsd tracing boards , painted by Miss Walford , and presented , in her name , by her father , Dr . Walford , for which a hearty vote of thanks was given , and

the Secretary was requested to convey the same to the lady , with expressions of regret that she could not be elected an honorary member or associate . The boards were much admired , and it was unanimously agreed that they were beautifully executed . The case of the widow of a former member was advocated by Bro . Richards , and , as she had been relieved by the Board of Benevolence , a grant of X 20 was voted from the Charity Fund of the lodje .

Several brethren were laid up with influenza , including Bro . David Strong and Bro . Rupert Williams j an apology for non-attendance was also received from Bro . Loveland Loveland , P . Board of Gsn , Purps ., who was detained by professional duties all the afternoon . The brethren dined together under the presidency of the VV . M . The usual toasts were given , interspersed b y the singing of Bros . Frampton , Palmer , and Mr . Willaster ,

and recitation by Bro . Philpotts . From our visit to this lodge we should say that the watchwords of the Order , as stated by H . R . H . at his installation in the Albert Hall , " Loyalty and Charity , " from which the lodge is named , are not forgotten , indeed they are figuratively expressed in the P . M . ' s jewel , a heart surmounted by a crown , which , we were pleased to s ; e , was presented to the outgoing Master , Bro . S ; aton .

Roberts , and the Amphion Glee Singers .

and E . J . Elliott were raised to the Third Dsgree . Bro . Julius O . Jacobs having been presented as W . M . elect , was impressively installed by Bro . Nathan Robinson , and the following officers were invested : Bros . Louis Steil , S . VV . ; W . G . Langlands , j . W . ; R . P . Atkins , P . M ., Treas . ; W . T . Farthing , P . M ., Sec ; F .

B . Hopkins .

S ; aton .
