Green , Prov . G . Sec . j and Joseph Matthewman , Prov . ^ 5 St . G . Sec . The Worshipful Master Elect , Bro . George rJainsworth , was presented for installation bv the Dep . 'Prov . Grand Master , and the ceremony of installation was then proceeded with , the first part being taken by the ret ' ring VV . iU-, Bro . Suddick , the second part by Bro . C Letch Mason , P . | jr 0 , W . F . Tomlinson , P . M ., P . Prov . G . Director of Ceremonies was re-elected to represent the lodge on the Piovincial Charity Committee , and the two Wardens to represent the lodge on the Local Charity Committee . The business being finished , the new Master , Bro . George Hainsworth , then presented the I . P . M ., Bro . G . A . Suddick , with a Past Master ' s collar and square , also a very handsome Past Master ' s jewel , in doing so , he said : It is my
« eat privilege and pleasure on behalf of the lodge to do honour to one of whom there cannot be two opinions as to his worthiness . I refer to the I . P . M ., Bro . George Suddick . The past year has been one full of exceptional difficulties ( rom many points of view , but our I . P . M . has been equal to every occasion , and his genial and fraternal character has been experienced by all he has come in contact with j his performance of our beautiful ritual has been the
admiration of all visitors as well as our own brethren j his generosity has been without bounds , and he is never so happy as when he is contributing to the happiness of others . 1 can say no more , but ask you , Worshipful Brother , to accept this Past Master ' s jewel , together with this Past Master ' s collar and square , from the brethren of the lodge as a token of our great esteem and affection , and we all trust that the G . A . O . T . U . will grant you a long and happy
life , and may your sons and your sons' sons remember when they see these tokens , the great esteem and honour in which you were held by the brethren of your lodge , at this , the close of their centenary year . Bro . George A . Suddick , in responding , said he was quite taken by surprise at the great kindness evinced by the brethren of the lodge towards him . He knew it was not customary in the Philanthropic Lodge to present their outgoing
Master with a Past Master's jewel , and he should , therefore , value it all the more j he could assure his brethren that his presiding over them had afforded him great pleasure , and he should ever remember the great honour thus extended to him . The jewel is unique , and bears the inscription on the back " Presented to Brother George Austin Suddick , Worshipful Master of the Philanthropic Lodge , 304 , during its
centenary year , by brethren of the lodge . " The lodge was shortly afterwards closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room . After the usual loyal and patriotic toasts , Bro . C . Letch Mason , P . M ., after responding to the toast of " The Installing Masters , " said a very pleasant and agreeable duty fell to his lot , as the senior Past Master of the lodge present , viz ., that of proposing the toast of
"The I . P . M ., Bro . Suddick . " No one who had watched the career of Bro . Suddick during his year of Mastership could be insensible of the very great obligation they were under to him , as a lodge , for all the services he had at all tiroes so readily and willingly rendered . His hospitality knew no bounds ; the handsome manner he had entertained at his own expense the visitors to the lodge during the past year j the publishing at his sole expense the history of
the lodge , and presenting each member of the lodge with a copy , and the great Sclat that was given to their centenary gathering in August last by his energetic services—these and numerous other matters had placed them _ as a lodge under great obligations to him . Brethren , it does not gent rally fall to one who proposes a toast to accompany it with something more substantial than words , but I have , to-day , through your readiness to do honour to our late
chief , to ask our Immediate Past Master ' s further acceptance of this silver jug and salver . We have felt , brethren , that in discharging his duties as Master , our brother has had to deprive those at home of a good deal of his time , and we do not for one moment forget the great and irreparable sorrow that has overtaken him during the past year . We thought , therefore , that our offering to Bro . Suddick should not consist only of that which he could enjoy when present
with his brethren but also something that his family could also enjoy at home . Bro . Suddick , P . M ., I ask you to accept this silver jug and salver as a small token of our appreciation and thanks for all you have done , and may you be long spared to be with us . Bro . Suddick ( who was visibly affected , not knowing previously of any presentation ) thanked the brethren for this and all their kindness to him . The usual toasts concluded the proceedings of the day .

The banqueting hall was beautifully arranged . Large mirrors were placed upon the walls and tastefully festooned with curtains , whilst from the beams of the roof ( which were entwined with ivy ) , there were suspended at intervals groups of globes containing the electric light . The tables , too , were beautifully set , the electric light being again brought in to aid the decorative effects .
After dinner , the Provincial Grand Master spoke of the great pleasure and delight it gave one to visit the Etheldreda Lodge . In looking round the lodge that evening he had been very much struck with the array of purple . It proved that although the lodge was young , it had amongst its members a considerable number of those who had distinguished themselves in the Craft . This was
not to be wondered at when they had amongst them so distinguished a Mason , one who admirably discharged all duties alike in and out of lodge , as the genial and happyfaced Bro . Benjamin Chennell . The P . G . M . complimented the W . M . on being called upon to preside over the lodge , and congratulated the brethren in having selected a W . M . who appeared to be so universally popular .
Bro . Rev . L . R . Tuttiett proposed " The Health of the VV . M . " In so doing , he remarked that recently a society had been formed which had for its ultimate object the abolition of the profession to which their W . M . belonged . It was very good of Bro . J . A . Dawson to undertake the duties of the chair , as they all knew how fully occupied his time was . But when "the Severals" had been turned
into promenades for nursemaids with their perambulators , and the various stables at Newmarket had been converted into board schools and convalescent homes , Bro . Dawson would probably have plenty of time to devote to Masonic work . He , however , did not think such a condition of things was very near . The Worshipful Master , in resoonding , thanked the
brethren for having elected him . He felt his own deficiencies very keenly , and he could only promise to do his best for the lodge . Subsequently the Worshipful Master gave " The Health of the Installing Master . " Bro . B . Chennell met with a most enthusiastic reception . He said that eloquence was not a gift which he possessed ,
but he would yield to no man in his love for Masonry . He was glad to hear the kind expressions of approval of the work which it had been his duty to discharge in lodge that evening . But for that he could take no credit . The work had been given to him by a dear friend many years ago , and he had rendered it word for word as it came to him . He
believed in Masonic traditions being handed down from father to son , and from generation to generation j and he had on one occasion left an ancient lodge because they attempted to mutilate the ancient work received from their predecessors . Other toasts were given , and the evening was passed in true Masonic harmony .
OLD TRAFFORD . Talbot Lodge ( No . 2231 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Local Board Oilier , on Friday , the 15 th ult . The lodge having been opened , the minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved . Letters of apology were read from Bros . Warburton , Fulford , and Bradley for non-attendance . Bro . James Chatterton was passed by Bro . F . W . Faulkner , W . M .
Bro . Lloyd proposed , and Bro . F . Batten seconded , that the sum of five guineas he voted to the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution . After some discussion on the subject of alteration of by-laws , it was withdrawn for consideration . Bros . John AHin and F . Bennett being absent at the previous installation meeting , were invested with their collars . The bdge was then clossd , and a very pleasant evening was spent .

JERSEY . Csesarean Lodge ( No . 74 ) . —The regular installation meeting of this excellent lodge was held at the Masonic Temple , on Wednesday evenine , the 20 th ult . Notwithstanding the inclement weather there was quite a full muster of the brethren . The lodge evidently desiring thus to express their great and complete satisfaction at the acceptance of office by the W . M . elect . Bro . E . Bree
has ever studied the interests of the lodge only , and it is well known that he has on more than one occasion held back from the chair , when it has appeared to him it could be more worthily or advantageously occupied . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . P . G . Hamilton , and the usual preliminaries carried out . Three candidates were duly elected , but their advancement was postponed till the next meeting . Before leaving the chair Bro . P . G .
Hamilton took occasion to thank the officers for their able and willing assistance , and to congratulate the lodge that through their united efforts he had been enabled to bring his year of office to a most successful issue . He regretted much having to leave the chair , but that regret was greatly tempered by his knowledge of the fact that it would now be occupied by one of their most able , talented , and hard-working members ' , Bro . E . Bree . Bro . Dr .
Balfour Cockburn , G . D . C , who has acted as Installing Master of this bdge for several years , now assumed the gavel and proceeded to place the W . M . elect , Bro . E . Hamling , the indefatigable Secretary , to whom this lodge owes so much , was well'to the fore at this meeting , and at the banquet which followed labour , in a very neat and impressive speech , took occasion to advocate the pressing claims of the Mark Benevolent Fund and to urge upon the lodge the benefit of sending up a Steward at the next Festival .

believed in Masonic traditions being handed down from father to son , and from generation to generation j and he had on one occasion left an ancient lodge because they attempted to mutilate the ancient work received from their predecessors . Other toasts were given , and the evening was passed in true Masonic harmony .
