First Lames' Night Of The Blackheath Lodge, No. 1320.

personally superintended by Bro . Pearce , the very popular proprietor . The menues , which were of a most elaborate nature , were very much admired . The cloth being removed , the W . M . gave the toasts of " The Queen" and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales and the rest of the Royal Family" in a few most

appropriate remarks , which were most loyally received Bro . HOOPER , I . P . M ., next proposed the toast of "The W . M ., ' which , he said , gave him an immense amount of pleasure , as their president was one of the most worthy and enthusiastic brethren that could possibly be ; in fact , a very host in himself . He need not extol his many virtues , which were so well known , and

certainly must congratulate him upon the splendid gathering , the first of the kind ever undertaken in the ledge . He wished the W . M . long life , health , and happiness . The toast was received most enthusiastically . On rising , the W . M . received quite an ovation , and said that it gave him a great amount of pleasure to

reply to their noble and esteemed Bro . Hooper , who was one of those kind and generous brethren , so full of emot ' on that it was difficult to express himself . Any service he ( the W . M . ) could do for the Blackheath Lodge was a pleasure and labour of love . It was gratifying to note the satisfaction he had given , and what had been done , and his earnest endeavour for the future

would be in the interest and welfare of the lodge . He was happy to state that it was never so prosperous as now , and he felt quite satisfied that there were brethren succeeding him to the chair who would still raise the lodge higher in estimation . He most heartily thanked the company for such a generous reception . A souvenir in the shape of a beautiful bottle of scent

was presented to each lady . The toast of "The Ladies and Visitors" was next presented by the W . M ., who remarked that the brethren of the Blackheath Lodge were greatly honoured by having among them the gentler fair sex , and were delighted with their presence . The brethren knew full well and always appreciated their visitors as brethren ,

but the present occasion was the first time in the lodge history that the ladies were included at the banquet table , and it gave them all a much greater amount of gratification . He trusted they would all thoroughly enjoy themselves , as also at the ball which was to follow . Mr . WALLIS , in a few pithy remarks , responded .

Bro . CASS , W . M ., then said that a very important duty devolved upon him , which was to make a presentation of an i 8-carat gold watch to Mrs . J . Hooper , wife of their highly esteemed I . P . M ., bearing the following inscription : " Presented to Mrs . J . Hooper by the Blackheath Lodge , in appreciation of the services rendered by Bro . J . Hooper , I . P . M ., from

1892-1894 . " In explanation , the W . M . further said that Bro . Hooper had so admirably performed his duties , and possessing already a Past Master ' s jewel , was willing that Mrs . Hooper should share his honour , and hence the presentation , fn handing the watch to Mrs . Hooper , the W . M . said : In the name of the brethren of the Blackheath Lodge , and out of love and

appreciation of your dear husband , I now present this token , and trust you may live many years to wear it . Bro . HOOPER most suitably replied for Mrs . Hooper , heartily thanking the brethren on her behalf . The W . M . stated that the next matter was to make a presentation to their worthy and esteemed Bro . Stunt , P . M ., their valuable Secretary , who introduced

him into Freemasonry , and to whom he was under a great debt of gratitude , for his fostering care had enabled him to succeed to the proud position of W . M , Of his manifold virtues he need not dilate , but his faithfulness to the lodge was marked , for while the lodge was at Greenwich it might have been said they were at low water mark , but now it was removed to

London Bridge the reverse was said , and Bro . Stunt had stuck to the lodge through thick and thin . The brethren had , for faithful services rendered for 10 years , voted a sum of 10 guinea ? , which , by desire , was expended in purchasing a gold albert . Bro . Cass , W . M ., in the name of the brethren handed it to Bro . Stunt " as a souvenir and memento of the high

estimation he was held in the lodge , " and it gave him the greatest possible pleasure in doing so . Bro . STUNT , in reply , spoke with much feeling , thanking most heartily the brethren for such a present . He was proud of having introduced such a wrthy brother into Freemasonry as the W . M ., and to him alone ( for which he must be congratulated upon ) sprang

the idea of this auspicious event , and so ably supported by his officers . For his own part , he ( Bro . Stunt ) said his heart and soul was in Masonry , and so long as he was elected Secretary of the Blackheath Lodge he would do his utmost for its welfare . He most heartily thanked the W . M . for the kind words spoken of him . The Tyler ' s toast closed a most eventful meeting ,

after which the numerous company adjourned to the ball room . Dancing was indulged in till the small hours under the able M . C . ' s , Bros . A . H . Stunt , P . M ., and W . Wright . The Stewards who so ably assisted the W . M . in carrying out his idea of a ladies' night to such a successful issue , were Bros . J . Hooper , I . P . M . ; A . W .
