P ., the members and visitors dined ogether , and a very pleasant evening was spent .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .

Miss Hutchinson , who , in the early part of last year , was promoted to the important position of Head Governess , has every reason to congratulate herself , and to be congratulated , on the great success achieved by her young pupils in the public examinations to which they were submitted by her at the close of the last half-year . Fifty of the younger ones were entered for the College of Preceptors , and of these 47 passed , obtaining in various subjects

no less than 29 " Distinctions . " In the Cambridge Local Senior four entered , and all passed , two gaining Honours ; in the Junior 25 entered , and 24 passed , three gaining Honours and " Distinction ; " in the Preliminary 22 entered , and 21 passed , four with Honours and " Distinction . " Thus out of 101 girls who entered , only five failed to pass—an excellent result indeed !

BRO . E . H . THIELLAY , P . M ., TREAS . 15 S 9 . We regret to announce the death last week , after some little time of failing health , aged 66 years of age , of Bro . Eugene Henri Thiellay , well known as a member of the Craft , and as a hairdresser and perfumer , he having for many years up to the time of his death carried on the hairdressing saloon at Charing Cross Station , and having also a perfume laboratory at New Cross , besides being

the proprietor of a fair number of toilet preparations . The funeral took place at Brockley Cemetery on Tuesday , when the W . M . and some dozen or more Past Masters and brethren of the New Cross Lodge , of which deceased was Treasurer and a Past Master , paid their last mark of respect to his memory by attending and dropping the traditional sprig of acacia on his coffin , which was of polished oak with brass furniture and breast plate . Among those present were the W . M ., Bro !

BRO . J . DEFFETT FRANCIS . Bro . J . Deffett Francis , who was one of the original members of the Slvage Club , and claimed to be its founder , has died at Swansea at the age of 86 . He was for many years prominent in art and literary circles in London , and on returning to Swansea 30 years ago , devoted the remainder of his life to the inculcation of a love of art and literature amongst his fellow citizens . He added 7000 rare volumes to the Public Library collection of the town , and 2000 engravings to the Art Gallery , of which he was honorary curator .
