. , The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , and the very satisfactory annual report of the Finance Committee adopted , Bro . John West Oliver was raised to the Degree of a M . M . Bro . Richardson then installed his successor , Bro . G . R . Langley , in the chair of K S Bro . Langley invested his officers as follows : Bros . E . " A . Francis , S . W . ; H . Hooper , J . W . ; Britten , P . M .,

Treas . ; Speth , P . M ., Sec ; E . L . Mawer , S . D . ; Oliver , I . D . J Johnson , I . G . ; Pinnock , P . M ., W . S . ; and L . G , Reinhardt , Tyler . Mr . S . C . Hester was balloted for and initiated . Bro . Richardson , having completed two consecutive years of office , was then , by vote of the lodge , presented with a handsome P . M . ' s jewel , in token of his

brethren ' s affection and appreciation . The collar appertaining thereto had been also voted , but its purchase was deferred until the Board of General Purposes shall have decided on the form the collar is in future to take . Both in making the presentation and afterwards at table due stress was laid on the special character of the services rendered to the lodge by the I . P . M ., and the great benefits

the lodge had derived under his guidance , a tact which can only be properly appreciated by those intimately acquainted with the internal history of the lodge . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to the banquet , and , having worked without intermission from 4 . 30 to 8 . 30 , were obviously prepared to do justice to the p-ood things provided for them .

The usual loyal and other toasts were honoured , and require little comment ; but it may be mentioned that in proposing " The Health of the Worshipful Master" the fact was alluded to that three years had barely lapsed since his initiation , and that his progress was entirely due to his own indefatigable zeal , as a proof of which one guest stated that within three months of initiation the

Worshipful Master had taken the chair in the lodge of instruction , and admirably performed the initiation ceremony . In replying to the toast of his own health , the Treasurer took occasion to refer to the balance sheet of the lodge , pointing out that in one year the Iodge , though only composed of twenty members , had sent a Steward to each of the three Charities with a lodge donation of Xio 10 s . to

each , and that said Stewards had been further liberally supported by the members individually ; moreover , that the lodge had voted £ 10 to one of its own former members , and that the individual members had raised that amount to £ 25 , and finally , that the lodge had spent £ 10 for expenses in electing the son of a deceased brother to the Boys ' School , and had been successful in their endeavours . Nevertheless , by a judicious economy in lodge funds , and

extra care in avoiding a long list of arrears of subscriptions , the lodge carried forward at the commencement of Bro . Langley ' s year of office a satisfactory balance , both on general and on Charity Fund accounts . Inasmuch as the lodge membership was by no means a wealthy one , he looked upon that result as very creditable , and was pleased to think " Dear Old Unity " now stood upon a thoroughly sound financial basis .

PANMURE LODGE ( No . 720 ) . —A regular meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Balham Hotel , Balham , on Monday , the 21 st ult . There was a good attendance of officers and members , the chair being occupied by Bro . J . D . Arnold , W . M . The minutes of the preceding meeting were first read and confirmed . Ballot having been taken for Mr . George Thies , he was regularly

initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M ., who performed the ceremony in a most praiseworthy manner . This being the meeting preceding the installation gathering , the customary elections were taken , and resulted unanimously in each case , as follows : Bros . A . Leonard , S . W ., W . Master elect ; Treves , P . M ., re-elected Treasurer ; and C . Thomas ,

re-elected Tyler . An Audit Committee was appointed to consider the accounts of the lodge for the past year . On the motion of Bro . Treves , I . P . M ., it was unanimousl y agreed that the sum of 10 guineas should be voted from the lodge funds , and placed on the list of the W . M ., as the Steward representing the lodge at the Boys' School Festival .

It was proposed by Bro . T . Poore , P . M ., Sec , and unanimousl y resolved , that a P . M . ' s jewel , of the usual value , should be presented to the W . M . on the completion of his year of office , in consideration of his valuable and ethcient services . Apolog ies for non-attendance having been received from those brethren unavoidably absent , and "Hearty good wisnes

from the visitors , the lodge was closed . Ample justice was subsequently done to an excellent banquet , presided over by the W . M . in his usual genial and kmdl y manner . the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and received with the usual heartiness . . J" . ; Treves , I . P . Willing , jun ., was unanimously elected Treasurer , and

Bro . Whiting , P . M ., Tyler . An Audit Committee was appointed , and the lodge was closed . The brethren adjourned to the Pillar-room to banquet . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . " The Health of the W . M . " was given by Bro . H . Lovegrove , I . P . M ., and heartily received by the brethren . The Worshipful Master , in reply , said he had to thank

the brethren for the support'he had received from them for the R . M . B . I ., and as this was perhaps the last time he should preside over them in the capacity of Master , he hoped to meet them all in October next , when he should instal his successor , and he thanked them one and all for having had such a prosperous and happy time since his installation . The toast of " The Visitors" came in for a hearty

reception from the members . Bros . W . A . Scurrah , H . Dickey , A . Simner , and others , responded . Bro . H . Lovegrove responded for " The Past Masters . " " The W . M . Elect" came in for a hearty reception , and was responded to by the S . W . in a very able manner . An excellent programme of music was carried out under the able direction of Bro . Bruce , Organist .

Lee , 1897 . Lodge was formally opened , and the minutes of the last

regular and emergency meetings read and confirmed . The report of the Audit Committee was then received and adopted . Bro . A . Bannister was presented as the W . M . elect , and installed into the chair by Bro . Baldwin , the retiring W . M . The following officers were appointed , the investment of those unavoidably absent being deferred until next meeting : Bros . H . E . Vickers , S . W . ; Chas .

Linsey , J . W . ; Wm . Weekes , Treas . ; T . Poore , P . M ., Sec .: E . Pettit , S . D . ; E . Cromwell , J . D . ; J . L . Bush , I . G . ; C . Freuen , Org . ; G . L . Gilliam , P . M ., D . C . ; R . Barham , P . M ., A . D . C . ; C . B . Young and Jas . Stayner , Stewards ; and J . Bowler , Tyler . The addresses were delivered by Bro . T . Poore , P . M ., in his usual excellent manner . The W . M . presented a handsome P . M . 's

jewel , manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , to Bro . Baldwin , I . P . M ., in recognition of his services during the past year , and the gift was briefly acknowledged . A Committee was formed to consider the by-laws of the lodge . The resignation of Bro . Job , P . M ., having been accepted with regret , and a proposition for initiation received , the lodge was closed in due form .

Ample justice was subsequently done to a substantial banquet , on the conclusion of which the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . "The Health of the W . M . " was given by the I . P . M ., who remarked that Bro . Bannister was an old and tried officer , having been longer in Masonry than himself . Their W . M . could boast of a very good attendance at the Iodge

meetings , and the members were perfectly aware how carefully he had carried out the duties of the various offices through which he had passed . He was therefore fully deserving of the distinguished position into which he had been installed that evening . The brethren , one and all , wished him a successful year , and if there was plenty of work , he would be found equal to the duties . Bro . A . Bannister , W . M ., tendered his sincere thanks

for the kindly manner in which the toast had been introduced and received . It afforded him very much pleasure to look back upon the last 10 years , during which time he had been associated with the lodge . He was fortunate in being promoted to office soon after his initiation , and having thus served his apprenticeship he had been elected to the position of W . M . It was with peculiar feelings that he found himself at the head of the table , never having occupied

such a distinguished position before . He hoped to carry out his duties in an efficient manner , and that at the end of his year the brethren would not regret having elected him to preside over them . Bro . H . Carman , W . M , 54 S , replied for "The Visitors , " and expressed the pleasure it afforded him to accept the kind invitation of the W . M . The visiting brethren had

been very pleased at the kindly manner in which they had been received , and had been gratified at the working of the lodge , especially in the installation ceremony . He wished the VV . M . a successful and happy year of office . Bros . Hill , P . M . 165 S ; Crowdy , W . M . 54 S ; and Carter , W . M . 1 S 92 ; also replied . "The l . P . M . " was given by the W . M ., who regretted

that Bro . Baldwin had not had much work in the past year , but the brethren had had an opportunity that evening of witnessing his excellent working in theinstallation . He ( the W . M . ) desired to include the name of Bro . T . Poore , P . M ., in that toast , as he had delighted them all by his admirable rendering of the addresses . Bro . H . Baldwin replied , and said it had been a great gratification to him to instal such a worthy brother into the

chair , and also to be assisted in the ceremony by such a veteran as Bro . Poore , P . M . He thanked the brethren for the jewel voted to him , and assured the W . M . that he should be ready and willing to afford him any assistance in his power during the forthcoming year . Bro . T . Poore , P . M ., also responded , and thanked the W . M . for his kindness in including his name in the toast .

Bro . Stuart Barker , P . M ., responded for "The Past Masters , " and on their behalf tendered thanks for the cordiality with which the toast had been given and received . He thought that on the present occasion the child was father to the man , for on reference to the minutes he found that the present W . M . was initiated at the meeting preceding the installation of the I . P . M ., who had installed him into

the chair . He naturally felt a pride in being the oldest P . M . of the lodge , and hoped he should live to see the Past Masters' collars range down to the end of the table . He congratulated the W . M . on reaching the chair , after having worked through the minor offices , and assured him it was the earnest wish of the Past Masters that he would have a prosperous and happy year of office . Bro . T . Poore , P . M ., Sec , replied for " The Treasurer

and Secretary , " and expressed his regret that the Treasurer had been obliged to leave . He had had the honour of being Secretary since its formation ten years ago , and he hoped to be spared to continue in the service of the lodge for the same period longer . "The Officers" having been given , and suitably responded to by Bro . Vickers , S . W ., theTyler ' s toast closed the meeting .

DUKE OF ALBANY LODGE ( Ko . 1963 ) . —The usual meeting of this very flourishing lodge was held on the 17 th ult , at the Albert Palace , Battersea Park . The W . M ., Bro . N . T . Murche , was supported by his officers and a goodly assembly of brethren . After the minutes had been read and confirmed , Bro . Duffield was raised in a most impressive manner to the Degree of

Master Mason . The whole of the ceremony was worked in that excellent style for which the Duke of Albany Lod ° -e has already become noted . The next business was the passing of Bro . Joselin , and here again nothing was wanting either in the W . M . or his officers lo render the working a complete success . A ballot was afterwards taken for Mr . Albert Pellew , which proving unanimous

he was duly initiated into the mysteries of the ancient Craft . Thus the three Degrees were worked , and the vigour and eloquence of Bro . Murche clothed the ritual with a life and reality hardly equalled in any place . Bro . Featherstonhaugh was balloted forand unanimousl y elected as a joining member . This being the election meeting , it was very satisfactory to the incoming officers to see such a

goodly attendance of brethren to take part in the business . Bro . Kerry , S . W ., was elected W . M . for the coming year , and Bro . Donaldson re-elected Treasurer . Bro . Rowe was also re-elected Tyler . The by-laws having been read , W . Bro . Voisey , P . M ., Sec , moved that " a P . M . ' s jewel and collar of the usual pattern and value be presented to Bro . Murche , W . M ., for the eminent services rendered by him to the

lodge during the past year . " In doing this , Bro . Voisey paid a fitting tribute to Bro . Murche for the splendid way in which he had guided the lodge during the past year . He had spared neither time nor trouble in his efforts to make the Duke of Albany Lodge one of the best in London , and he had the satisfaction of being rewarded by success . This motion having been duly secondedwas

, carried by acclamation . The Worshi pful Master having made a suitable reply , next brought forward his proposal to found a Duke of Albany Lodge Benevolent Fund . The report of the Committee appointed to consider the question was received and adopted , and Bros . Capt . Vincent , P . M . Harvey , A . D . C ., and Latham were appointed Trustees of the Fund . The W . M . next proposed that £ 10 be taken

trorn the lodge tunds to form a nucleus of the Benevolent Fund . Bro . Pink , S . D ., seconded this proposal , and after a short discussion it was carried unanimously . Nothing further arising for the good of Freemasonry , after "Hearty good wishes" had been expressed by several visitors , the lodge was closed in due form . Another proposal of the W . M .. Brn . M ^ mUi ¦„ ., *

carried into effect on this occasion . ' Thebanquet wasattended by the lady friends of the brethren and thus a "Ladies' Night" was inaugurated . M . elect , and installed into the chair by Bro . Baldwin , the retiring W . M . The following officers were appointed , the investment of those unavoidably absent being deferred until next meeting : Bros . H . E . Vickers , S . W . ; Chas .

jewel , manufactured by Bro .

M .. Brn .
