He appointed and invested his officers as follows : Bros . Thomas , I . P . M . ; W . H . Burney , S . W . ; G . P . Carter , J . VV . and acting Sec ; E . VV . Carpenter , AI . O . ; T . P . G . Burney , jun ., J . D . j J . F . J . Sexton , LC ; and W . Spinks , Tyler . Bro . Bateman then proceeded with the ceremony , delivering the addresses in faultless style . He was awarded a cordial vote of thanks for his services , and returned thanks . Bro . Thomas was presented with a handsome Past Alaster ' s jewel for services rendered the lodge during his year of office , andas a mark of the esteem of the brethren , for which he returned thanks , after which the
lodge was closed . 'The banquet was served in the handsome and commodious saloon of the hotel , and was worthy of Bro . Burney ' s fame as a past master in the arts of the cuisine . Among the other brethren present were Bros . IT . Roberts , P . AL , P . P . G . I . of W . ; H . W . Partridge , P . AL , P . P . G . AI . O . ; VV . C . Burney , AI . D ., P . AL , P . P . J . G . The banquet having been discussed , the VV . AI . gave the usual loyal and Grand Alark Lodge toasts , and also that of "The R . W . Bro . the Rev . T . Robinson , ALA ., Prov . G . M ., " followed by that of "The V . W . Bro . the Rev . Hayman Cummings , ALA ., D . P . G . AL , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " both the latter toasts being heartily responded to . Bro . Coe , in response , said he tendered them his most
hearty thanks on behalf of the rest of the Grand Officers first , and then on his own behalf . The Grand Officers at all times did their utmost to promote Mark Masonry , especially in the Province of Kent . They had one of the best of Provincial Grand Alasters in the person of their esteemed Bro . Robinson , and not only one of the best Alasters , but also one of the best Deputy Provincial Grand Alasters in Bro . Cummings , to whom their thanks were due for the
able and admirable manner in which he carried out his arduous and important duties . He then gave a most encouraging account of the Charity contribution of thc province ( Alark ) during the last 20 years , and cmcluded by pressing upon the brethren and officers the necessity of an effective and perfect working of the ritual , which could only be obtained by attending a lodge of instruction . The I . P . M . then proposed the toastof "TheWorshipful
Alaster , " and said he was sure that as Bro . Gore had done good work in the Craft , so he would in the honourable and important position in which he had been placed that day . Bro . Gore , who is deservedly popular among the brethren , thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast , and at the same time felt and was aware of his own inability to do justice to the lodge at the present time . It was perfectly true , as Bro . Coe had said , that as a rule there was not the
same interest taken in a perfect working of the Alark ceremonial as there was in the Craft . Knowing this , and feeling his own inability , he had hesitated in accepting the office , but it was a sort of "Hobson ' s choice" in hiscase , he being the only officer eligible and so accepted it , hut with a full determination to make himself , before tlieir next meeting when he trusted to have some work to do , worthy of their confidence and perfect in his working , tor , having accepted
the responsibility , they would lind no "shirking the work " in him . He thanked them again , and hoped to have with them a happy , harmonious , and prosperous year of office . Bro . Jolly responded for "The Visitors , " who were heartily welcomed by the W . M . and brethren . Bro . Thomas , in responding to a flattering reception of the toast of " The Past Alasters , " said there were so many Past Masters present , a fact that he and the lodge might
well be proud of , that it was not his intention to take the wind out of their sails by making a long speech , yet he must say that as a rule a W . AL who was at all a hardworking Alason now-a-days had his mind constantly employed in ritual work . During his year of office he had to fill the arduous task of IT . in a chapter , and other work as well , so that he was unable to work up the ceremony of installation . Bro . Bateman had kindly consented to do it for
him , in the unavoidable absence of their esteemed first Alaster , Bro . Ralph Gooding . He thanked Bro . Bateman for his kindness , and the brethren for the kind manner in which they had received the toast . Bros . Kipps , Roberts , Couldery , Partridge , and Burney also responded , and then "The Officers" and Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , which had been brightened by some good singing and reciting , Bro . Kipps presiding at the piano .

AL , and the minutes of the previous meeting having been confirined
, Bro . A . H . Bateman , P . AL , P . P . G . AI . O ., by special request , assumed the chair as Installing Officer , and Bro . Gore having been duly presented , was installed and saluted . He appointed and invested his officers as follows : Bros . Thomas , I . P . M . ; W . H . Burney , S . W . ; G . P . Carter , J . VV . and acting Sec ; E . VV . Carpenter , AI . O . ; T . P . Newton , S . O . ; G . Burney , J . O . ; F . Couldery , P . M ., Treas . ; H . T . Fryer , R . of AI . ; VV . ] . Huntley , S . D . ;
D ., P . AL , P . P . J . G . W . ; VV . Kipps . P . AI . ( Hon . ) , P . P . G . O . ; E . AI . Roe , P . M . 294 , P . P . S . G . W . ; and C . Jolly , S . VV . 22 G , J . W . 309 , P . P . G . O . J '
