Whitehead , and the proposal for a snecial ladies' meeting and summer outing vvas agreed to ,
and left in the hands ot the W . M ., J . W ., and Secretary to arrange for in the month of June . A special vote of thanks was accorded Bro . F . Faithfull Begg for reprinting and distributing amongst the members an unique reprint of his eloquent oration to the immortal memory of Scotland ' s national bard , Bro . Robert Burns . Bro . C . F . Matier , P . M . P . G . Std . Br ., having written intimating his
resignation the brethren , feeling the force of the reasons given , accepted Bro . Matier's letter vvith great regret , and unanimously elected him an honorary member of the lodge , and extended an invitation to him in perpetuity for every time he could attend the lodge gatherings . The lodge being closed , the brethren descended to the banqueting hall , vvhich , as usual , was decorated vvith the
Hags and banners of the Scottish clans . Being St . George ' s day the dinner , purveyed for as usual by Bro . Clemow , of Anderton ' s Hotel , vvas more British than usual . At all events it vvas as much English as it vvas Scottish . The menu cards were printed upon tartan-backed cards of the various clantartans , but for once the waiters vvere delightedly surprised to find the dishes subscribed in honest English and not in the
untranslatable vernacular of the Secretary's mother tongue , so that for once the viands vvere served in the orders as printed . But the haggis vvas there and received all honours , the " great chieftain 0 ' the puddin' race " is never omitted , and the one comfort the Saxon brethren visiting have is " the wee drappie o' it " that immediately follows , and although the mountain dew is freely drunk there are never
any of the " brithers" ditto . After the usual patriotic and fraternal toasts , Bro . Vincent , who acting as I . P . M ., had the honour of proposing "The Health ofthe W . M ., " expressed the great delight and pleasure he had had in coming and seeing for himself the characteristic working of the Scots National Lodge and the beautiful halls wherein the meetings were
held , while at the same time he saw how wide awake the lodge vvas , and vvhat a pride it must be to have the presidency of such a truly representative lodge , and he complimented Bro . Whitehead upon having filled the chair with such energy and devotion . Bro . Whitehead in his genial way briefly responded , and in proposing " The Health of the Visitors , " coupled vvith it "l'he Masonic Charities , " thus giving Bro . McLeod ,
Secretary of the R . M . I , for Boys , a glorious opportunity of improving the occasion , which Bro . McLeod , in reply , did , saying he was proud to have been born in Edingburgh and to attend the Scots lodge , which he trusted would ever remember their obligations to the great Institution . The proceedings terminated by the whole company rising and in a circle singing "Auld lang syne" in soli and chorus .

contributed to the general enjoyment by excellent singing . Bros . Wheeler and Syclemoore gave a line rendering of the duet " Excelsior . " In the course of the evening Bro . Pearse , Sec , reminded the lodge that this year it had attained its majority , having been consecrated in January , 1 S 70 . It was suggested that the event should be marked in some special manner , and the necessary arrangements are to be made .
LEICESTER . Commercial Lodge ( No . 1391 ) . —The 20 th installation meeting and annual festival of this lodge vvas held on Friday , the 24 th ult ., at Freemasons' Hall . The Worshipful Master , in response , expressed his gratitude for the honour done him in placing him in the chair . After asking for the cordial co-operation of his officers and the members , to ensure the continuance of the prosperity and harmony vvhich now marked the lodge , he expressed the hope that at the close of his year of office his conduct therein should have been such as to merit the approval of all its members .

MANCHESTER . Minnehaha Minstrel Lodge ( No . 2363 ) . —This lodge held its regular meeting on the 27 th ult ., at the Victoria Hotel . There was a large attendance of brethren . The minutes of the previous meeting and also of an emergency vvere read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for two gentlemen , and both proving favourable , they
vvere subsequently initiated by Bro . Martin Thomas , P . M ., VV . M ., in such a manner as cannot be excelled . At the close of the ceremonies a very interesting circumstance took place . Bro . Martin Thomas , VV . M ., has had the honour of being appointed Provincial Grand Deacon of East Lancashire , vve presume through the fact of him being the principal promoter of the Minnehaha Minstrel Lodge , and also for the noble undertaking lately accomplished by the
Minnehaha Minstrels , vvhich vvas an entertainment given by this amateur troupe , the proceeds to be given to the East Lancashire Systematic Benevolent Institution and the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . The brethren took this opportunity of presenting Bro . Thomas vvith a complete set of Provincial clothing . Bro . Seth Wrigley introduced the matter to the brethren , and called upon Bro . IT . Nail , D . C ., to present them , who remarked during all his long experience in connection vvith Masonry he had never had

a greater pleasure than that moment to ask Bro . Thomas to accept that beautiful present . He assured him that every member of the lodge had contributed towards it freely and delightedly , and were pleased to thinkthat one they all loved so much had had the high distinction bestowed upon him . But they all felt it was due to one who had worked so hard and done so much for
Freemasonry in general , and he sincerely hoped the Great Architect of the Universe would spare him long to wear them . Bro . Martin Thomas was overcome by emotion , but briefly responded in most graceful and affectionate words . held , while at the same time he saw how wide awake the lodge vvas , and vvhat a pride it must be to have the presidency of such a truly representative lodge , and he complimented Bro . Whitehead upon having filled the chair with such energy and devotion . Bro . Whitehead in his genial way briefly responded , and in proposing " The Health of the Visitors , " coupled vvith it "l'he Masonic Charities , " thus giving Bro . McLeod ,
Secretary of the R . M . I , for Boys , a glorious opportunity of improving the occasion , which Bro . McLeod , in reply , did , saying he was proud to have been born in Edingburgh and to attend the Scots lodge , which he trusted would ever remember their obligations to the great Institution . MANCHESTER . Minnehaha Minstrel Lodge ( No . 2363 ) . —This lodge held its regular meeting on the 27 th ult ., at the Victoria Hotel . There was a large attendance of brethren . The minutes of the previous meeting and also of an emergency vvere read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for two gentlemen , and both proving favourable , they
vvere subsequently initiated by Bro . Martin Thomas , P . M ., VV . M ., in such a manner as cannot be excelled . At the close of the ceremonies a very interesting circumstance took place . Bro . Martin Thomas , VV . M ., has had the honour of being appointed Provincial Grand Deacon of East Lancashire , vve presume through the fact of him being the principal promoter of the Minnehaha Minstrel Lodge , and also for the noble undertaking lately accomplished by the
Minnehaha Minstrels , vvhich vvas an entertainment given by this amateur troupe , the proceeds to be given to the East Lancashire Systematic Benevolent Institution and the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . The brethren took this opportunity of presenting Bro . Thomas vvith a complete set of Provincial clothing . Bro . Seth Wrigley introduced the matter to the brethren , and called upon Bro . IT .
