The same day Prince Albert Victor of Wales arrived at Marlborough House from York , in order to be present at the annual dinner at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgatestreet , of the gth Lancers .
Lord and Lady Stanley of Preston arrived at Balmoral Castle on Friday , the 25 th ult ., on a visit to her Majesty , and had the honour of dining vvith the Queen and Royal Family . His lordship kissed hands on his appointment as Governor General of Canada . On Monday he had a protracted interview vvith the Prime Minister at the Foreign Office , and on Wednesday he left London for
Liverpool for his seat of government . To-morrow ( Saturday ) being the day appointed for the public celebration of the Queen ' s birthday , theceremony of trooping the colours will take place as usual on the Horse Guards' parade at 10 a . m ., while in the evening the principal members of the Ministry vvill give the customary banquets in honour of the occasion . There will also be the
usual illuminations in the principal thoroughfares of the Metropolis . House , on Friday , the 25 th ult ., at the third annual meeting of the National Association for the Employment of Reserve and Discharged Soldiers . The report , vvhich was adopted , showed that 3481 men had been registered at the various officesof the Association during the past year , and
employment found for 1013 , raising the total registered from the establishment of the Society to 5741 , and the number for whom employment had been found to 15 S 9 . It was resolved to petition the Government to assist the Association by reserving a certain proportion of places in Government departments for deserving soldiers .

There was a terrible fire at a milliner ' s establishment in Edgware-road early on Wednesday morning , and within a few minutes after the first alarm was given the premises were found to be a mass of flame . Unfortunately , five of the female residents perished , and sundry others were more or less seriously injured in jumping from the windows .
We are pleased to learn that Bro . Berther , who has been for some time deputy manager of the Freemasons ' Tavern , has been appointed manager of the City Terminus Hotel , Cannon-street . Bro . There was a terrible fire at a milliner ' s establishment in Edgware-road early on Wednesday morning , and within a few minutes after the first alarm was given the premises were found to be a mass of flame .
