Consecration Of The Powell Lodge, No. 2257, At Bristol.

CONSECRATION OF THE POWELL LODGE , No . 2257 , AT BRISTOL .

An event of very rare occurrence and of exceptional interest attracted to Freemasons' hall , Park-street , on the 28 th ult ., one of the largest gather * ings of brethren that has ever assembled within its walls . The rapid growth of the Craft in Bristol during the last few years led several brethren to the conclusion that there was room for another lodge—the ninth in the province . The project being approved by the rulers of the Order , a warrant was

granted by the M . W . G . M ., the Princeof Wales . The founders considered that the deep interest which the present D . P . G . M ., Bro . W . F . Powell , and his family have long taken in Freemasonry in Bristol , and the remarkable fact that he and his father before him have ruled the province for something like half-a-century , ought to be commemorated by calling the new Iodge the Powell Lodge , and this decision was received with approval by the

authorities in London , and with enthusiasm throughout the Province ol Bristol . At the consecration the D . P . G . M . was assisted by Bros . Altred Deedes , Prov . S . G . W . j J . W . Sharland , Prov . J . G . W . ; Pierrepont Harris , Prov . G . S . ; the Rev . J . H . Wilkinson , Prov . G . C ; A . W . Powell , Prov . S . G . D . j R . H . G . F . Lambert , Prov . G . D , ; E . Bendon Colthurst , Prov . G . D . C . ; J . Cooke , Prov . A . G . D . C . j H . E . Stock , Prov .

G . S . B . ; W . Galpin , Prov . G . Sid . Br . ; and T . Thomas , Prov . G . P . There were also present Bros . J . R . Bramble , P . A . G . D . C ; S . E . Taylor , P . G . Std . Br . j J . L . Stothert , P . G . Std . Br . j S . G . Homfray , D . P . G . M . Mon . j E . W . Rebbeck , P . P . S . G . W . Hants , and a large number ot other brethren . The lodge was consecrated with the usual ceremony , a very fine oration on the charitable object ot the Order being delivered oy the Prov . G . C

The musical portion of the ceremony was excellently rendered by a choir of brethren organised and conducted by Bro . F . S . Pai minter , Prov . G . Org , Bro . Pierrepont Harris , P . P . S . G . W ., was installed as first W . M , and appointed and invested his officers as tollows : Bros . E . T . Trott , S . W . ; G , Dawson , J . W . j W . K . Abbott , Treas . j W . B . Heaton , Sec . j A . Alison .

S . D . j D . H . Jones , J . D . j Harold Lewis , D . C ; and W . R . Chandler , I . G . The first joining member proposed was the nephew of the D . P . G . M . The brethren of the new lodge and others afterwards dined together at the Royal Hotel , College Green . The lodge was furnished by Bro . George Kenning .

S . G . W . j J . W .
