The I . P . M ., in presenting the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " remarked they were all proud to see him in that honoured position , of which he was worthy . His attainments in Freemasonry were excellent , and he trusted he would have a most successful year of office . The toast was received most enthusiastically . TheW . M ., in reply , stated he felt very nervous in his present position , but his endeavour would be to emulate

such excellent examples who had preceded him . Every brother aspired to the office of Master of his mother lodge , and now he had succeeded to that position his endeavour would be to carry out the duties to the very best of his ability . He would at once thank speciall y Bro . Mackay , S . W ., who had allowed him to take the position of W . M . in preference , as he was at the present time Master of another lodge . Also to all the brethren who had so kindly

replied by letter wishing him a happy and prosperous year . One word he would add with respect to the lodge of instruction which he hoped the brethren would avail themselves of attending , and so become as perfect as possible in the splendid ritual . The toast of " The I . P . M . and Installing Master " was next given by the VV . M ., stating the excellent manner he had conducted the affairs of the lodge ; his working could

not be excelled , being an able Preceptor , never lost for a word , required no prompting , and , in fact , a brother very hard to follow in the work . The installation ceremony was worked most impressively . Bro . Hardiman , in reply , said such kind remarks were more than he deserved . He would assure them his one great desire was to make himself perfect in all the work . He was Preceptor of two lodges of instruction , and his

heart and siul was in it . He most heartily thanked the brethren for such a splendid jewel , which he should treasure all his life . His thanks were due to all the officers who had so ably assisted him , especially the Secretary . He again wished every success for the coming year . The toast of " The Visitors " was next presented in very kind terms by Bro . Mackay , S . W ., and responded to most ably by Bros . Cochrane , P . G . Treas . ; Scott Young , Davis ,

Pargeter , Bygrave , Alarshall , and Mackway , remarking upon the splendid working and most cordial reception given . The W . M . next gave the toast of "The Past Masters , " in eloquent terms , which was responded to by Bro . Captain Glyn Smith , who said he had hoped to have seen Bros . Colonel Lumsden and Hepburn Hastie , who had done such suitable service for the lodge , and one and all would continue to do so , and support the W . M . to their utmost .

The toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary " was presented by the W . M . in high terms of praise , who remarked they were well worthy of their position . Bro . Pardoe , Sec , ably replied , remarking it was a work of love to do anything to promote the welfare of the London Scottish Rifles Lodge . The W . M . presented the toast of "The Officers" in richly merited terms , for one and all , he said , deserved

their position . In reply , Bro . Howden said he could hardl y do justice to the toast , but all would most ably support the W . M . in carrying out their respective duties . The Tyler ' s toast closed a most happy gathering . The evening was enlivened by some excellent harmony from Bros . Mackay , McKenzie , R . Mackway , Captain Graham Gordon , Scott Young , and Smith ( reciter ) .

ceremony . The W . M . resumed the chair , and impressively peiformed . the ceremonies of passing and raising . The principal concluding business was the proposal of two gentlemen as candidates for initiation at the next meeting , after which the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , served in Bro . F . Blackley ' s well-known and highly appreciated good style . _ Upon the removal of the cloth , the usual loyal and

Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In proposing "The Initiates , " the W . M- remarked that after the Oueen , and his Royal Highnes the M . W . Grand Master , the most important toasts of the evening were trie initiates and the visitors . As to the former , he must say although this was only the second year of the lodge ' s existence , they have bad such a large number of initiates that

the lodge roll was nearer ( io than 50 . Quality certainly seemed to attract quality , and he felt sure the new recruits would prove worthy of the confidence bestowed upon them . Ihe Initiates briefly thanked the W . M . and brethren for electing them , and expressed their intentions of trying to become good Masons . Replying on behalf of "The Visitors , " Bro . William Mason Styles , in a humorous speech , said he was pleased to

be a visitor at a lodge of which he heard constantly such excellent reports both as to its efficient work , hospitality , and thorough good-fellowship . It afforded him much gratification to see Bro . G . Emblin , upon who-n years ago he impressed both by precept and example the natural charms of modesty , occupying the chair of S . VV ., with his

old friend , Bro . T . W . Lightfoot , following closely in his wake . Such excellent officers were a good augury for the continued prosperous progress of the lodge . Bro . Bates replied for " The Officers . " The proceedings were enlivened by some capital songs and recitations by Bros . Bates , Lowry , and Thomson .

coincidence had that day attained his silver wedding in Freemasonry , for it was just 25 years ago since he had espoused a lot of brothers on his initiation . Since that day he believed that Bro . Eldershaw had only missed one attendance ( which must be a record not often beaten ) , and had filled the usual routine of offices , having passed through the chair in 1 S 7 S .

Bro . Eldershaw , in reply , referred to the many changes which he had witnessed ; most of those who were members when he joined were now no longer with them , and many had joined the great majority . He had been the means of introducing at least 25 new members to the lodge , several of whom had since passed the chair of K . S . He took a

great interest in the lodge and hoped to do so tor some years to come . Bros . Shorrock and Maxfield contributed greatly with songs and music to the harmony of the evening . It was mentioned that the D . C . ( Bro . J . Cliffe , P . M . ) , and the Tyler , had each accepted the offer of Prov . old friend , Bro . T . W . Lightfoot , following closely in his wake . Such excellent officers were a good augury for the continued prosperous progress of the lodge . Bro . coincidence had that day attained his silver wedding in Freemasonry , for it was just 25 years ago since he had espoused a lot of brothers on his initiation .
