After the meeting the brethren visited the Museum ( thanks to Dr . James ) , and were shown over it . by Bro . H . A . Chapman . At King ' s College Chapel , Bro . Dr . H . A . Mann gave a short organ recital . Among otner places visited were Trinity College and St . John ' s hall and combination room . The brethren were afterwards entertained to tea and refreshments by the members of the York Lodge at the Lion Hotel .

Royal Military Chapter , No . 89 . The first annual meeting of the above chapter since its reconstitute in iScj'jwas held at the Masonic Hall , Aldershot , on Wednesday , the 21 st ult . The business on the agenda ot the summons was to confirm the minutes of last regular meeting , to ballot for Allied 13 . Bedford , a candidate for perfection , and to install the M . W . S . for the ensuing year . Owing to the war in South Africa , a number of its members were on active service , and , in consequence , the chapter found itself in some considerable difficulty . However , on appealing to 111 . Bro . Capt . Portlock Dadson , 33 , the G . Secretary of the

Supreme Council , for aid , he suggested that the Recorder should represent and explain the case to the 111 . Bro . John Read , 31 ) , and he speedily decided , and kindly consented to go down to Aldershot and carry out the duties of installation . The chapter haying been opened , and the preliminary business disposed of , Bro . John Read proceeded to install E . and P . Bro . John Youd , the M . W . work , and also in recognition of the able manner which the instillation ceremony had been performed . This was seconded by Bro . H . G . Marshallsay , the 1 st General , and carried with acclamation , and was ordered to be entered oa the minuies . The brethren then adjourned for refreshment , after which the usual loyal toasts were given , and an earnest desire was expressed that the acquaintance thus nude with the Installing Master would be resumed at future meetings .

The chapter , which has just resumed work after being in ab ; yanca for some 14 years , bears amongst its P . M . W . Sovereigns , H . R . IL the Duke of Connaught , 33 ° ; III . Bro . G . S . Mark had won distinction . His working in the minor offices in the Arch had been creditably done , and having mastered the arduous ritual of the First Principal ' s chair , he was only waiting an opportunity to display his capabilities . It was to belioped that that chance might yet be his . The M . E . Z . having briefly replied , gave " The H . and J . " He regretted that the Second Principal ' s ( Comp . S . Cochrane ) absence was caused through indisposition . He was one of the most popular companions in the chanter , and . as one of its exaltee * . the

members were proud of the great position he had attained in Freemasonry . Comp . Birch was a Past Master of some years' standing in the Craft , and would doubtless in time achieve distinction in the Royal Arch . The toast having been warmly received , the Third Principal made a humorous response in reply . The toast of "The Visitors " was coupled with the name of Comp . Sheriff ; that of " The Past Principals " with Comp . H . J . Lardner ; and that of " The Officers " with Comps . W . J . Collens , S . N ., and Cooper , ist A . S . The toast of "The Grand Officers" was coupled with the name of Comp . George Everett , who made a fluent speech in response . "The Health of the M . E . Z . " was given by the I , P . Z . The First Principal , in reply , expressed himself as being highly gratified in being installed that day as M . E . Z . He had gradually worked up from the most minor office , and although he could not claim to have achieved great success , yet he had done his best . As M . E . Z ., he would endeavour to carry out the best traditions of No . 1381 , a which had had and still of

chapter possessed soms the best woikers in the Royal Arch Degree . The toast of "The H . and J . " followed , and was briefly acknowledged by Comps . Hale and Wolsey . " The Health of the Past Principals " followed , and was coupled with the name of Comp . W . Smith , I . P . Z ., who was also the recipient of a handsome Past Principal ' s jewel . In giving "The Installing Principals , " the M . E . Z . paid a very high compliment to those companions , and he coupled the toast with the name of Comp . H . J . Lardner , who modestly responded .

The next toast submitted was that of " The S . E . and Treasurer . " The M . E . Z . enlarged upon the merits and good qualities of Comp . Henry Higgins , S . E ., who , at that tune , was in . route for Rome , lie hoped that the change of air and scene would benefit their repected and venerable friend and companion . The services of Comp . George Everett to No . 13 S 1 could not be too highly commended . He was the father of

the chapter , and a most indefatigable Treasurer , and long might he bs spared in conjunction with Comp . Higgins to hold his important trust . Comp . George Everett briefly replied , but in his speech cndirscd the remarks of the M . E . Z . as to the services of his colleague , the S . E ., whose holiday h ; trusted would be in every way enjoyable anil beneficial . The toast of " The Officers" terminated the proceedings .
