Very , Ty ler . The usual addresses were then delivered by Bro . Edwin Woodman , I . P . M ., the Installing Mas ' er , in a manner that formed a fitting close to a very successful year of office . Bro . Weston , VV . M ., then said he had a very

pleasing duty to perform , in presenting Bro . Woodman , I . P . M ., with a P . M . 's jewel , which had been voted to that brother at the preceding meeting , as a small token of the appreciation of the members at the admirable manner in which he had carried out the duties of the chair , and as a mark of the esteem with which he is regarded by them . He could only say that it was the earnest wish of the

brethren that Bro . Woodman would be spared for many years to wear the jewel , and to combine with the other P . M . ' s in furthering the best interests of their lodge . Bro . Edwin Woodman , I . P . M ., briefly returned thanks for the handsome gift and for the kind remarks of the W . M ., observing that he should reserve any further observations until a later period of the evening .

There being no other business for transaction , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , under the genial presidency of the newly-installed W . M . The usual toasts were subsequently duly honoured , the first being " The Queen and the Craft , " which the Worshipful Master said was always well received at public meetings , but more especially at Masonic gatherings . The

toast was , however , received with exceptional enthusiasm at this period , it being the Jubilee year , when thoughts naturally reverted to the marvellous progress the nation had made during the last 50 years . In giving " The Health of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " , the Worshipful Master ' said thatmanyof the brethren round the table were present at the grand meeting

at the Albert Hall , when Freemasonry emphatically expressed its loyalty to the Throne and attachment to his Royal Highness . Those who were present on that occasion could not fail to be struck with the admirable manner in which his Royal Highness conducted the business , and all would agree that under such a distinguished and able M . W . G . M . the Craft must prosper .

"The Grand Officers " was next given . The Worshipful Master , after referring to the excellent services rendered by that body , read a letter from Bro . James Terry , Secretary Benevolent Institution , who expressed his regret at his inability to attend their meeting . The W . M . remarked that they had all been pleased to see the rank of P . G . Sword Bearer conferred on Bro . Terry at the Albert Hall ,

and they were convinced that among the members who were so honoured there were none more deserving than he . The toast of "The R . W . Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bait ., Prov . G . M ., and the Prov . Grand Officers , " was next proposed by the Worshipful Master . He observed that Sir Francis Burdett was deservedly popular in the

province , for he was invariably kind and genial . The brethren present were devoted to their Provnicial G . M ., who always spoke well of the Citadel Lodge . He ( the W . M . ) would read letters from Bros . Sir Francis Burdett , Raymond H . Thrupp , D . P . G . M ., and J . F . H . Woodward , Prov . G . Sec , expressing their regret at their inability to attend . Their lodge was honoured by having amongst its members several Prov . Grand Officers who had rendered

good service . He should couple with the toast the name of Bro . Mayes , P . P . G . P . Bro . H . W . Mayes , P . P . G . P ., returned thanks for the kind terms in which the W . M . had proposed the toast , and for the coi dial reception given by the brethren , and assured them that the Prov . Grand Officers would continue to exert themselves for the benefit of the Craft generally , and the

province in particular . Bro . VV . H . Lee , Prov . A . G . Sec , also responded . Bro . E . Woodman then gave "The Worshiplul Master , " and said he was proud to see Bro . Weston in that honourable position . There were many expert Masons in their lodge ; but he was convinced that there was no brother better qualified for the onerous duties of the chair than its

present occupant . Bro . Weston had proved himself to be thoroughly acquainted with Masonic ritual , and under the guidance of such a W . M . a happy and prosperous year was assured for the lodge . Bro . John Weston , W . M ., said that after the flattering manner in which the I . P . M . had proposed the toast , and having witnessed the cordiality with which it was received by the brethren , he found it difficult to find words to

adequately express his thanks . He need scarcely assure them that he was gratified to have reached the chair , an honour to which he had long looked forward . He would make every effort to advance the Citadel Lodge , of which he was a founder . Since its consecration it had steadil y prospered , and he had felt proud to see its growth . He was convinced it would continue its prosperous career , and maintain its high position in the province . He was proud of the lodge , and of his position as its W . M . for the

ensuing year . "The Visitors" was next introduced by the W . M ., who expresstd the pleasure it afforded him to welcome such a goodly number of visiting brethren . In the name of the lodge he tendered them a hearty welcome , trusting they would repeat their visit . There were many old faces amongst the visitors whom they had frequently seen , and hoped to see as frequently in the future . He should couple

the names of Bros . A . E . Taylor , P . P . G . Supt . of Works Surrey ; R . P . Forge , VV . M . 1693 ; R . A . Homan , VV . M . 1602 ; and J . Baker , 1471 . Bro . A . E . Taylor , P . P . G . Supt . of Works Surrey , said that in his reply he should take the advice of the VV . M . and practise brevity . It was his first visit , and he had been pleased with the cordial reception he had received

from the members . It had gratified him to see the ceremonies so ably worked , and more especially the installation ceremony . He thanked them heaitily for the kindness he had received , and regretted that he had not been able to join their lodge . Several other visiting brethren also responded . The Worshipful Master then gave "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Edwin Woodman , I . P . M ., " whomhe

heartily congratulated on the able and impressive manner in which he ha . i conducted the installation ceremony . Bro . Woodman was a P . M . of a North London lodge , where he had previously performed the ceremony , and on the present occasion he had maintained the reputation he had established for excellent working . Bro . C . Worshipful Master for his complimentary remarks , and the brethren for their hearty reception . He tendered his best thanks to the Past Masters and officers for their hearty cooperation and valuable assistance during his term of office . He had also to thank the brethren for the handsome jewel presented to him in recognition of the slight services he had rendered . He hoped to be spared for many years to wear that jewel , and to witness a continuation in the future of the prosperity the lodge had attained in the

past . Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . Swd . Br ., replied for "The Past Masters . " " The Officers " having been duly given , and replied to by Bro . Von Holtorp , S . W ., and others , the Tyler ' s toast

closed a successful and pleasant gathering . A meed of praise is especially due to Bro . W . Wright , Org ., under whose arrangements an excellent programme of music was admirably rendered . Amongst those who assisted were Bros , J . Bayne , Taylor , Woodman , and Miss Prestage .

CONSECRATION OF A NEW MASONIC HALL IN MELBOURNE . The Freemasons'Hall in Collins-street , Melbourne , was consecrated and dedicated to the purposes ot Masonry oil Wednesday , tne 17 th March last , in the presence ot a large assemblage ot the Craft . ! he building , it may be mentioned , was formally opened twelve iiiuiuhs agu , and since then some forty lodges , chapters , and other iVlasomc bodies

worked under the English , Irish , and Scolch Constitutions , have met there ; but the ceremonies of the 17 M March had been postponed tor some months in consequence ot the absence , tiom the colony , of tiro . Sir William Caike , the head of the three bodies named . The delay , theielure , is of no moment , and quite warranted , in view of the lact tnat that the Freemasons' Hall in London , where the Grand

Lodge of England assembles , was not consecrated till the year 1 S 69 by the late Karl of Zetland , the then Grand Master , although built nearly a century previously . The proceedings commenced at halt-past-two o ' clock , when Bro . Sir William Clarke opened the District Grand Lod eol Victoria ( ri . C ) , in No . 3 lodge room , the P 10-vincial Grand Lodge of Victoria ( I . C ) , and District Grand

Lodge ot Victoria ( S . C ) , being simultaneously opened in Nos . 1 and 2 rooms , by Bros . Geo . Baker , D . P . G . M ., and Captain C . R . Martin , Depute D . G . M ., respectively . In the meantime the Masters , Waidens , and biethren of the English , Irish , and Scottish lodges , holding their meetings in the buildings , along with those from the suburbs , and many parts of the country , assembled in the main hallon

, the ground floor , in which the ceremonies of the day were to be performed . Shortly afterwards the officers and Past Oriicers of the three districts were formed in procession in the corridors of the second floor , under the direction of Bros . W . B . Lovering , D . G . D . ol C . ( E . G . ); I . H . Solomon , P . G . D . of C . ( I . C ); arid T . H . brain , D . G . D . of C . ( S . C ); and they marched to the main hall headed

by the usual lylers with drawn swords , Stewards , and the banner of the linglish District Grand Lodge . 'I he procession was of considerable length , amongst the principal objects being the Ark of the Covenant , borne by tour Installed Masters ; the cornucopia , with corn ; two golden ewers , with wine and oil ; and a silver vase , containing salt , carried by Masters of ledges ; the Ionic , Doric , and

Corinthian columns , also borne by Masters ot lodges ; the celestial and terrestrial globes ; tne Bible , square and compasses , cained by tour ' Lewises , " i . e ., sous of Masons , the Bible opened at Numbers , ch . x ., & c .
