M . then thanked the lodge , and announced that the sum of 20 guineas would now be sent up , as on account of his onerous duties of Chief Magistrate it vvas utterly impossible to be present himself , expressing his regret that such should be the case .

The lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to the refreshment board , Bro . Stone presiding . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . Stone proposed the toast of "The Officers , " and in a few well chosen remarks expressed the pleasure he felt in doing so , stating that any W . M . should be proud to have such officers , comprising as they did some of the best

working Masons in Jersey , especially commending the Secretary , Bro . Handing , for his never tiring energy for the good of the lodge . Bros . Bois responded , remarking that it was an honour to serve under their W . M ., or in his absence the I . P . M ., who was always present . Bro . Handing thanked Bro . Stone for the kind manner

uv which his name had been mentioned , but stated that it was the duty of every brother taking office to perform that duty with zeal . He gave a few statistics on the state of the lodge , showing how that two and a half years ago the lodge was in debt , whereas now they had about So members , and besides the sum that had been given that evening £ 5 5 s . had been given last year to that excellent

Charitythe Mark Benevolent—which formed such a valuable auxiliary to the great Charities by educating the children of Mark Masters under their own parents or guardians . The zeal shown by the several brethren vvas also a good augury for the future—as an instance the motion of Bro . Vincent that a banner be bought for the lodge . Bro . Oldridge also , in his usual pleasant manner , made

a few remarks , stating how pleased he was with the ritual of this Degree , and the very good feeling existing among the members of this lodge , which could not fail to tend to its prosperity , quoting the proverbial bundle of sticks"that where there is unity there must be strength . " The Tyler ' s toast , by Bro . Rogers , brought a most enjoyable evening to a close .

Mason having kindly consented to act as candidate , the ceremony of initiation was ably rehearsed , and Bro . Kirby delivered the charge . The W . M . then proceeded to rehearse the second ceremony , with Bro . Drysdale as candidate . Bro . Stevens was proposed as a joining member , and Bro . Neville

returned thanks for the hearty welcome he had received on becoming- a member of this lodge of instruction . This being the first occasion on which Bro . Cooper had presided as W . M ., the customary congratulatory vote of thanks vvas offered him , to which he responded in adequate terms . Bro .

Baker was elected W . M . for the next meeting , and appointed his officers in rotation , and announced that the work would be the ceremony of passing , explanation of the second tracing board , and the ist Section of the Third Lecture . and past . The Harcourt Preceptory having been opened by Sir Knight Belton , E : P ., the Provincial Prior assumed the throne , and opened Provincial Priory . The Registrar called the muster roll and read the minutes of the last meeting , which were confirmed .

The annual summer outing of the brethren and friends of this flourishing lodge took place on Wednesday , the 23 rd ult ., it being one of the finest days we have been favoured with during the whole of the

summer . The party started from Hammersmith Pier on the splendid river steamer Snowdrop , chartered specially for the occasion , and belonging to the Victoria Steamboat Company , soon after 10 o ' clock , to the delightful and exhilarating strains of a very good band , under the direction of Mr . Parksbandmaster to

, the same company . The catering , which included dinner and tea , vvas efficiently looked after on the boat b y Messrs . Hammond and Co ., of Lower Thames-street , the fruit being provided by Messrs . Butt and Sonj of Hi gh-street ,
