The new hotel just opened at Brighton , which has been termed the Hotel Metropole , is the latest addition to the colossal establishments projected and carried on by the Uordon Hotels Company , and is designed to afford visitors to Brighton the same well-ordered entertainment as is already provided at the Hotels Metropole , Grand , and First Avenue , London . When these vast establishments , all of
wnich were furnished by Messrs . Maple and Co ., of 1 ' uttenham Court-road , were first opened , and round to be fitted and arranged , not merely to meet tlie requirements ut ordinary comiurt , Out that the appointments were of a costly and luxurious character such as nad never before been similarly employed , and that not only had every provision been made lor tne material wants of tne guests , but also that the resources ot art had been laid under contribution to minister
to their enjoyment , it was argued tnat such hotels were Utopian in tneir conception and could not possibly be remunerative , liut . those who so reasoned leit out of sight the advancing prosperity of tne nation ; the ever-increasing tendency to and love ot travel and change which is inherent in the Anglo-Saxon ; the impending changes in modes of living , and , furtner , the enormous number ot tourists from all parts ot the civilised globe wno visit our shores on
business or pleasure . That tne projectors ot tnese hotels were right in their estimation ot what the puolic would appreciate , and be willing to pay for , has been amply conhrmed by the extraordinary success which has attended the different enterprises ; and , indeed , as not a tew have had experience , the difficulty has been not to attract more customers , but to find accommodation tor the crowds of wealthy and fashionable visitors who throng the hotel portals irom day to day .
