them that the pressure of professional and Masonic business alone compelled him to refuse the very pressing invitation of the preceptory to be again re-elected . After the usual business had been disposed of , the E . P . closed the preceptory , and the sir knights repaired to the banquet hall , where the E . P . vvas well supported by the Grand and Provincial Officers and members of the preceptory , and the loyal and Templar toasts vvere given and responded to .

Masonry in Enniskillen , and the reasons vvhich lead to the founding of Chapter 205 in the town may prove interesting to those vvho carry on the

"Royal Art . " In July , 1 S 38 , a warrant of constitution vvas granted by Grand Chapter establishing Chapter 891 , the first we have any knowledge of as existing in Enniskillen , at least subsequent to the separation of the jurisdiction of Royal Arch Masonry from the Craft Grand Lodge , and for years S 91 was the only chapter in the town , but early in 1 S 65

another warrant was issued by Grand Chapter empowering the formation of Chapter 473 , vvhich soon became a most flourishing chapter , and for several years a spirit of rivalry was maintained between the two chapters . But a time came vvhen it vvas found that this rivalry vvas not alone an unhealthy emulation , but vvas injurious to the best interests of capitular Masonry , and it became apparent to both

chapters that if Royal Arch Masonry vvas to flourish this could onl y be accomplished by the members of the two chapters joining under one warrant and working but one chapter . It vvould here be out of place to more than allude to the difficulties vvhich interposed to prevent this desirable amalgamation , but vve may say that they vvere formidable , and

for a time apparently insurmountable . In the case of the members of both chapters , old associations and traditions had to be given up , pleasant memories ignored , and the rivalry forgotten . But Masonic loyalty and a whole-hearted desire for the prosperity of the Royal Order outside the limits of mere chapter borders at length prevailed , and on October 26 th , 1 SS 8 , the warrants of both 891 and 473 vvere surrendered to Grand Chapter , and a nevv warrant ( No . 205 )

taken out , under vvhich number and the name , "The Enniskillen Chapter , " the members of the two joined , and the wisdom of the s ! ep vvas at once apparent , in the large number of brethren of ability and influence vvho at once came forward and joined the nevv chapter , and the erevvhile divided companions vieing vvith each other to perfect everything vvhich could tend to the prosperous working of the new chapter .

The first officers of the nevv chapter vvere chosen unanimously from those of the two old ones , one from each alternately , Comp . O . Ternan being chosen first King in recognition of the great services he had rendered in bringing about the amalgamation . May we not say that the establishment of this chapter in Enniskillen affords a striking example of the power and good

vvhich Freemasonry exercises over the minds of those vvho learn and lay to heart her principles of fraternity and brotherly love , that abnegation of self , for the sake of the welfare of the common weal , vvhich enables men to cheerfully surrender cherished privileges , it may be , and old associations to merge in a newer Masonic tie , and submit to a younger jurisdiction for the sake of that " peace , love , and

The above event the first of its kind , took place in the Lodge Rooms , Fisherman ' s Hall , Kinsale , co . Cork , Ireland , under the patronage of Bro . H . T . Daunt , J . P ., W . M ., R . A ., M . M . M ., Past Masters , Wardens , and brethren of the Kinsale Lodge , No . 234 . The room vvas decorated vvith the full Masonic insignia

by Bros . Ward , P . M . ; Jago , I . P . M . ; and Orr , S . W . The programme vvas arranged by Mrs . Pratt , who with her usual kindness selected the choir for the concert from those of St . Multose , Kinsale , Ringcurran , and the Wesleyan Churches ; too much cannot be said in praise of the indefatigable way she conducted the whole concert ,

but the trained style of the singing spoke for itself . In addition to the local talent , the fine voices of Miss Hunt , Bro . Rev . Canon Conolly , and Mr . Thos . Good formed an attraction which the repeated encores proved to have been correctly estimated . At eight o ' clock p . m ., the brethren in full Masonic dress and regalia , led by Bro .

H . T . Daunt , W . M ., supported by Bros . Jago , I . P . M ., Col . Havvtres , P . M ., P . J . G . D . Munster , the Past Masters , Wardens , and brethren , marched up the hall to the platform , when the W . M . gave out that the concert would open vvith " God Bless the Prince of Wales , Grand Master of England , " which was sung ,

all in the hall standing . Among the local performers must be mentioned the name of Miss Emily Daunt , whose song , accompanied by the Misses Orrs , on piano and violin , received a well deserved encore ; the piano . solo , as also one by Miss M . Orr , was encored to the echo . A quartette by Mrs . McDonnell , Miss Orr , Capt . Pratt , and Mr . McDonnell deserves special notice ; but

it would be invidious to select any of the other performers , all having done their duty to perfection . The room was full to overflowing with the principal inhabitants of Kinsale , and the proceeds are to be devoted to the Masonic Jubilee Annuity Fund . From the support now given the brethren hope soon to give another treat of the kind to the music-loving public .

The West Lancashire Hamer Benevolent Institution.

THE WEST LANCASHIRE HAMER BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION .

A meeting of the Court of Governors of this Institution was held on Friday evening , the 25 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , under the presidency of Bro . R . Foote . The report for the year was adopted . Bro . G . Morgan was re-appointed Treasurer , and Bros . H . H .

Smith and A . J . J . Bamford joint Secretaries . Bros . ' Dr . J . K . Smith , Hall , Christison , and Irvin were unanimously elected honorary medical officers . Thanks were given to the Auditors , Bros . Turner , Pittaway , and Bottomley , and Bro . H . H . SMITH , in moving the customary vote to the Chairman , announced

that through Bro . Murray he had received 200 guineas for the funds of the Institution from the executors of the late Bro . Crossley , of Wigan , vvho , in addition , had left 300 guineas to the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution , and 600 guineas to the Alpass Benevolent Fund . The vote of thanks was cordially carried , and the proceedings then terminated .

Miss Fuller , a lady from America , opened the Globe on Tuesday , last week , for a limited number of weeks ; which we think will prove to be extremely limited unless she has other plays better than " Caprice " to present to the public . " Caprice" is a touch of Wm . Taylor ' s " Unequal Match " and "Caste , " and though a squabble

is going on about Miss Fuller ' s rights to it , we venture to remark it is not worth a quarrel over . Its theme is that of an educated man who falls in love with a rustic girl , and who , when he has married her , finds he has made a huge mistake owing to her want of education . The lady then puts herself under

teachers , and returning to her husband somewhat confounds him with her high education . Miss Fuller is an American variety artiste , and not suited to comedies . She shows talent , and , being pretty , may yet win the sympathies of English folk if

she can put on a play suitable to her style . She has a very good company , whom we pitied , including Bros . Maclean and J . S . Grahame , Mr . A . Boucicault , Mr . Fuller Mellish , Mr . A . Maltby , and Misses Marie Linden and Susie Vaughan . A cow on the stage is , something new , even to realistic drama .
