It is their intention to remain in the south of Europe during the winter months . Bro . the Duke and Duchess of St . Albans , after being on a visit to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Mrs .
Goschen at Sussex Heath , Sussex , from Saturday last to Monday , have returned to Bestwood Lodge , Notts . Last Wednesday's matinee of "Sweet Lavender , " at " Terry's , " was so successful that they will be continued , in addition to the usual Saturday ones , throughout the year . This will make eight performances per week .
It is expected that the Prince of Wales will be the guest of Bro . Lord Brooke , M . P ., and Lady-Brooke , at Easton Lodge , near Dunmow , Essex , about the second week of December , when his Royal Highness will enjoy some pheasant shooting .

An autumn dog show has been held this week at the Crystal Palace . 'There vvere 1520 dogs entered by about 700 exhibitors , and these were arranged in about 1 S 6 classes . The . value of the prizes awarded amounted in the aggregate to Xiooo .

Madame Mane Roze has been the victim of a rather serious accident . At Wednesday ' s proceedings of the Art Congress in Edinburgh , Mr . Philip Rathbone ( of Liverpool ) , speaking in the combined meeting of sculpture and architecture , discussed the political influence of art , claiming for great monumental works a civilising effect on the living which should be transmitted in augmented force to future generations . Mr . VV . Holl , R . A ., in the section of painting , took a somewhat gloomy view of the relations between art and
