A performance cf the late Michael Balfe's " Bohemian Girl" was given at Drury Lane Theatre , on Monday , it being the 50 th anniversary of its production , the first performance having taken place at the same theatre on the 27 th November , 1843 . The house was crowded in every part , and Bro . Sir Augustus Harris had provided a most efficient cast , so that the opera went well throughout , and was from time to time vociferously applauded .
It appears that the excessive rains of Saturday last have caused a considerable amount of damage to the Manchester Ship Canal , water from the upper reaches of thc Mersey and Irvvell overflowing the sluices between Warrington and Runcorn . On Sunday morning last the vyater rose from 15 feet to 40 feet , making serious breaches in the embankment between La chford and Runcorn , and giving the country the appearance of a huge lake . The gap is about Co feet wide .

The deceased was born in 1 S 1 S , and had sat in the House of Commons for Dumbartonshire from 1 S 6 S to 1 S 92 . He is succeeded by his son William , who was born in 1 S 4 S , and is a Captain in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders .

We regret to announce the death of Bro . Sir Archibald Orr-Evving , Bart ., at his residence , Ballikenrain , near Glasgow . The deceased was born in 1 S 1 S , and had sat in the House of Commons for Dumbartonshire from 1 S 6 S to 1 S 92 . He is succeeded by his son William , who was born in 1 S 4 S , and is a Captain in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders .
