INSTRUCTION .

PERCY LODGE ( No . 198 ) . —Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather there was a large gathering of enthusiastic brethren at the weekly meeting of this excellent lodge of instruction on the iSth ult ., at the Jolly Farmers , Southgate-road , Islington . The work , consisting of the Third ceremony , was admirably gone through by the following officers : Bros . L . Solomon , W . M . ; Stallard , S . W . ; Yates , J . W . ; Ashton , S . D . ; Witte , J . D . ; and Brown , I . G ., under the able guidance of Bro . I . P . Cohen , Preceptor .

An additional attraction was the expectation of hearing a lecture from Bro . Sadler , the Grand Tjler , who had selected that day for tlic fulfilment of a promise , made some months ago , in response to an invitation from the lodge , to deliver a lecture on the tracing board . After a brief interval for refreshment , the lodge was called to labour in the First Degree , and the VV . M . requested the attenti m of the brethren for Bro . Sadler , P . M ., who , after a most instruclive address , having reference chielly to the origin and use of tracing

boards in Masonry , and the value and importance of symbolic teaching generally , proceeded to explain the various emblems on the lodge board . For upwards of an hour the lecturer was listened to vvith ihe greatest possible interest and attention , although the latter part of his subject was evidently familiar to man / of those who vvere present . Bros . Cohen , Galer , Fenner , Solomon , Larkin , Hurdell , and Hodges rendered material assistance bv giving the various definitions and illustrations which occur in the course of

the lecture , a mode of proceeding which , we venture to think , is preferable to the whole of the work being done by one person . At the conclusion of the lecture , Bro . I . P . Ci . hen said that , Bro . Sadler being already an honorary memb : r of the Percy Lodge of Instruction , he was prevented from asking the brethren to confer that distinction upon him , but was obliged to be content with

moving that their best thanks be given , and recorded on the minutes , for the able , impressive , and instructive way in which he had entertained them that evening , which , being duly seconded , we need hardly say was carried unanimously . Bro . Sadler brielly responded . Several new members were then proposed , and , after the lodge was closed , many of the brethren oll ' ered their thanks personally to Bro .
