The incident arose from the lads taking part in the procession of Freemasons when H . R . H . the occasion . It was also thought desirable to further commemorate the event by the presentation aboye referred to . The Bibles were a superior edition ; large size octavo , very finely printed , also containing concordance aud voluminous appendix . They were specially bound in purple morocco , and each had Masonic emblems , with the names of each youth on one side in gilt letters . The following
was also printed on the inside cover of each Bible : " Presented to ( here the name was printed ) by the Freemasons of the Province of Norths and Hunts , on ' the occasion of his assisting to carry a Volume of the Sacred Law at the ceremony of laying with Masonic rites the chief corner stone of the Jubilee Wing of the Northampton General Infirmary by H . R . H . Prince Albert Victor of Wales .
October 18 th , 18 S 7 . " The youths were Percy Lionel Gold , Arthur Lewis Airs , Joseph Whitmore Jeffery , and Christopher Croft . Each Bible had the autographs of H . R . H .
